- so1omon, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22So I'm confused... at which point do the tubes come into play? I know there's got to be tubes in there somewhere.
- p9s50W5k4GUD2c6, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Regarding IP packets: great site (movie): http://www.warriorsofthe.net/clips.html
- jarcoal, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6what a horrible website
- jarcoal, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5good, quick read. anyone who finds this interesting, i'd recommend checking out the security now podcast (specifically episodes 25-26). on itunes or http://www.grc.com/securitynow.htm
- bluedefender8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I don't know "who cares about packets" but Ramen noodles would just be plain noodles with out the packets.
- EllisAshbrook, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2yeah, you can't talk about packets without mentioning star trek.
- bullium, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I really liked the movie...thanks for the link!
- devindotcom, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I was going to link that! It's a great little movie, still holds up. What is it, 10 years old now, at least?
- endgame, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Great reference to Alaska Senator Stevens!! "I didn't get my mail in my mail box for 2 days because the Internet tubes were all jammed up"......LOL
- wintermute0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If its any indication, they show that movie to training classes for Comcast phone support.
- dkarlson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I only viewed these comments with the intent to make a tube comment. :)
- linuxrebel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2They come into play just as your packet enters either Alaska or the Washington DC beltway. Unless you live in Akron Ohio, then you have greater access to The Tubes.
- CrackHappy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1LOL - 7 layer burrito. I have to tell that to my network admin, he'll laugh his ass off.
- inboulder, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2This article seems pretty light as far as actual content goes, it needs more pictures and diagrams. I've always wanted to create a flash animation of a basic network connection using the 7 layer burrito, maybe using a train analogy.
- chevy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"at which point do the tubes come into play?"
Well, when a mommy packet and a daddy packet love each other very much... - clevedog, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Eh, tubes are nothing. where are the chutes and ladders?
- andoru, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2well, they go down this series of tubes...
- Euph0rik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The best OSI analogy I’ve always referenced is simple snail-mail: A letter into an envelope, into a bubble pac, into a box, on to a truck, etc… cause ya know, All People Seem To Need Data Processing.
- rncars, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good basic explanation on networking. A few more examples would have been helpful.
- NeoPlatonist, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2In the past I had really taken the inner workings of computers and the Internet for granted. It did what I wanted and it didn't matter that I had no clue at all how it did. Now a few comp sci classes later, I understand enough to have my mind blown regularly. If you take a moment and think about it, it is a amazing what goes on inside computers.
- davidshq, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Great little article.
- sbovisjb1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Ok interesting, then go and tell me WTF teh purpose of tubes and semiconductors were for?
- sorenb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0horrendous article. this is why editors at real publications have jobs.i mean, come on. at least read your own article ONCE, please...
- f3l1x, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Not saying the site was good, just that Steve is an idiot. You should read the articles and make your own determination of course.
- slamm6, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Dammit, so1omon, you beat me to it !
- illegalamigo, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2who cares about packets?
- f3l1x, on 10/12/2007, -15/+2Gibson research is a joke. http://www.grcsucks.com ... sorry semi off topic. good read...
