- merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+41It's not. Now I have your password.
Good one, by the way. Never would have guessed "godirockcox" - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+27The best internet ad I ever saw was one that said, "Has your credit card been stolen? Check now!"
Credit Card #: [======================]
Expiration Date: [======================]
Security Code: [========================]
Turns out, my credit card was stolen! They said they would contact me in a couple of days, and don't bother calling the credit card company directly because they had it under control. - Lowry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24Neither do google or yahoo ads.
Search "free credit report"
FreeCreditReportsInstantly.com is a scam site as they don't even send you a report after putting in your cc # and the verisign is wrong. They advertise in google and yahoos ad system. I contacted both companies (Yahoo and Google) multiple times and neither have done anything about it. - davidirock, on 10/12/2007, -3/+23At least the domain names arnt spoofed (they still have .trypod at the end). That always confuses me when the domains are not what the url bar says they are. I wouldn't even be sure that this is "digg.com" anymore. Times change.
- merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19There's only one source for real free credit reports:
FTC.gov
http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/credit/freereports.htm
That page points you to this site:
https://www.annualcreditreport.com/
You're not safe anywhere else. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+25C'mon. No body could be quite as bad as those braindead twerps who inhabit MySpace.
Not even apple fanboys. - subversive1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14I didn't even think Tripod was still around,thought it died like Xoom.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Be careful hammy... he knows what phishing means and he is obviously a hacker because he some how made an E flip backwards and get all rounded like...wait...that's a 3! Genius!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11script kiddies ftw!
bet they were not your friends for very long... - StammesOpfer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9except if you read the page there are actually ones that perform as a middle man and you have to use the correct info before you can login then they steal your info
- davidirock, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8No way, I would have never guessed that's my password either. All this time I've been using the wrong password to log into digg.com.
Damn, phished again.
P.S. If you find out my on line bank password that would be help full as well I forgot that one also. - brstilson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Ahhh Tripod. the very best 1995 has to offer.
- SeaBass22, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7The first site I ever had was hosted on Tripod. That was 10 years ago, and it doesn't look like they've made any advancements since then.
- aurrea, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7You should be happy to be dugg down. I think I spend a near equal amount of time reading good comments as I do expanding and reading dumb comments that were dugg down.
- ryan_merket, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Last time I checked you couldnt put PHP, or CGI on tripod. How are you supposed to e-mail the goods?
- HardJeans, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Unfortunately, Tripod *the evil company they are* already took down the phishing sites mentioned in the article...they were up a whole 2 hours?...yep, they sure are evil. I'm sure it has to redirect to some other place to record the info.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5These sites go up and come down within the hour, then they put up another site. It's not that Tripod's not doing enough, it's just that the spammers are persistent.
- merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Most sites like tripod allow you to use a set of special CGI scripts they have set up to do things like build forms that email you. All you do is set up the form like so:
- jtjdt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2They are stopping phishing, just because those domain names look like phishing, doesn't mean they don't care.
Here is a site listed in the article:
http://pay-pal-redirect.tripod.com
When you go to that site, you get this message from tripod;
This account has been removed because of a phishing attack and or possible identity theft attempt.
Phishing is a technique used to gain personal information for purposes of identity theft, using fraudulent e-mail messages or web pages that appear to come from legitimate businesses. These authentic looking messages are designed to fool recipients into divulging personal data such as account numbers and passwords, credit card numbers and Social Security numbers.
The best way to avoid becoming a phishing victim is to remember that real companies almost never send e-mail asking you to submit personal data.
Forward emails that you suspect may be phishing attempts to spam@uce.gov and to the company, bank, or organization impersonated in the phishing email or web site. Most organizations have information on their websites about where to report problems.
To learn more about this, please visit the following websites:

If you believe you’ve been victimized or want to report a phishing attack please visit the websites below:

http://www.consumer.gov/idtheft
If you discover any new phishers that are using a Lycos product, please utilize the "Report Abuse" link and submit your report. - pablasso, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2to me it doesn't seems that they don't care
http://www.tripod.lycos.com/bin/membership/bannedsite?member=pay-pal-redirect - jakerz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5+1 for all the sites being taken down now.
- blapierre, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Um, does Tripod put any effort into anything? Tripod is probably just a bot that lets people make "websites" that they then put spam and popups on as these "websites" get passed around to someone's friends.
- Timelord1969, on 05/22/2008, -0/+1If you are looking for a decent free webhost, check out www.tubehoster.com They are the ONLY free host site that I use /trust. And no ads!
- gd007, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1where can i sign up?
- dhuck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1just another example of lycos (they own tripod) going straight to *****. they sold wired, they're desperately trying to copy yahoo to gain some sort of relevance in the market. in the end, they only have a handful of half-assed products and are riding only on their name recognition from back in the day. how much time is left for them?
just my humble opinion, of course ;) - findhostcoupons, on 03/15/2009, -0/+1As it is known free hosting is not reliable solution!
- Suplyndmnd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1*counts the minutes for tripod* ..... 13......... 14........
- PsychoPNut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1...Looks like someone from Tripod reads digg.com articles, all the "phishing" sites are down.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1From what I've noticed, the most phishing sites I've seen are hosted on German Counter Strike clan sites.
- skankyBacon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"a simple Google redirect in there phishing."
That probably doesn't help. You used "there" correctly the first time... - Bradl3y, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@ssanders
I do not phish anymore, it was a thing i did a few times as a joke when I was 12 and just getting in to web development. I was saying that i "phished" before I knew what fishing was because at that time I had never heard of the term. I don't hack. - errorrr007, on 03/25/2008, -0/+0FREE cPanel Hosting, Domain, PHP, MySQL, 100% Uptime + Instant Activation

thinktankibm.cn - conartun, on 09/06/2008, -0/+0yes free web hosting attracts a lot of spammers and phisher but there are few companies that are very strict when it comes to accepting new applicants. check out profusehost if you are looking for free web hosting - http://www.profusehost.net
- canuckistanian, on 10/12/2007, -6/+5I always make up a stupid name and password. They can't do verification, so enter username "Goofball" password "yousuck". When the page comes back with "Thank you! You have now signed up for..." or "Thank you, you will now be redirected to..." you know it's fake.
- Jammerdelray, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0yea so lets advertise it to even more phishers by putting it on digg
- seanmac, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2remotely hosted script.
laterz. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Xoom's dead!? NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! HOW ON EARTH WILL I EVER CREATE A BLOG!?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2Great, now the scam sites know the secret technique!
- ryan_merket, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1I just realized that, please mod me down.
- Bradl3y, on 10/12/2007, -15/+4I used to phish on tripod before i even knew what phishing meant. I'd take the html of the yahoo login page, make my own page and make it post to a script that ICQ'ed me the username and password, and then it would redirect them to the real yahoo login saying password incorrect. Got some of my friends good with that one! Making them email each other. Of course now if i ever wanted to do that, I would just forge the emails, not as much fun.
