Here is the manual:

- thenativeraver, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27I love digg.
- DannySpace, on 10/12/2007, -8/+32Listen up people. I'm sure that being the adults that we all are, we can accept the responsibility of being exposed to information like this without using it for deceptive reasons or our own personal gain. It's a privilege, not a right. And.... Pfft - LOL (I couldn't finish without laughing)
- dnthomps, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20From the PDF:
"To access the Operator Function menu, hold the , and
keys simultaneously for 2 seconds, release them and press 1, then press 2, then
press 3. The timing of this procedure can be difficult at first.
Note: The Operator Function menu can only be accessed when the machine is either
in service (“swipe your card” screen) or out of service. If the machine is attempting
to connect the host or initializing, you will not be able to use the key commands to
access the Operator Function Menu.
If you have trouble accessing the Operator Menu, power off the ATM and then either
open the vault door or remove the paper from the printer and power back on. This
will force the ATM to the Operator Menu."
and
"The Denomination is the type of bill that each cassette will be dispensing. The ATM
offers a second cassette as an option. This second cassette can be programmed to
dispense notes, it can also dispense a preset number of bill sized coupons with each
transaction and finally it can dispense a “value coupon”, where you would set the
value of the coupon and the customer could purchase this using their card.
To set denomination on the first cassette, press the First CST Denomination button
and then using the main keypad enter the type of bill. Options are $1, $5, $10, $50
and $100.
To set denomination on the second cassette, press the Second CST Denomination
button and then using the main keypad enter the type of bill. Options are $0, $1,
$5, $10, $50 and $100." - DaveyDeadite, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20this is such a lie. everyone knows they way you break into a atm is stick a cable into it and hook it to your laptop. cmon I seen it in Terminator 2.
"Eeeeeasy money"
god that movie was so cheesy. - HanSolo69, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15i bet they'll claim to have patched it but really do nothing. kind of like the die-bold machines.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13banks should be fine, since i have never been to a banks atm that didnt have a camera pointed directly on me. while the manuals are legally obtained, i doubt in the eyes of the law the money is.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Uh, it gets worse... (anyone who downloaded the manual and is actually reading it will realize this too)
There is a section in the manual that describes how to open the actual safe where ALL the money is kept. This section lists the factory setting for the combination lock. As we all know from "Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman," about 1 in 4 people leave their safes on the factory setting. - Kourgin, on 10/12/2007, -7/+19haha.. that is funny.
but what's more funny is that you said "I'm sure that being the adults that we all are" 40% of the people reading this are under 18
your move, dannyspace :) - underburn, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14Awesome
*Buys a MacPro and two 30 inch Displays* - jamesey, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12now all we need to do is make a map of where all these machines are located
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11i swear to god if i see one more virtualmagic.blogspot link.. i'll.. report your or something.
no one wants to read a diggers crappy blog, and they especially don't want to read a free blogspot, livejournal, xanga, etc. - MrSidnet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10And a few poor people....
- isewise, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11You still need a password after you entered the key sequence.
EDIT: Nevermind here they are
Master = 555555
Service = 222222
Operator = 111111
- waverider1899, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Ummm... I'm guessing that wasn't from your own account?
If that wasn't your account then dude, it simply aint worth it.
900 bucks at the risk of spending many months in jail? Not even tempting -- unless the male prison is overcrowded and they lock me up at the female prison instead. Otherwise I aint selling out my beliefs and nor do I want to do time.
Remember gentlemen: if you can't do the time, then don't do the crime.
(If you don't picture yourself bunking with Bubba, and staring at a grey cement wall all day with no access to the Net, then think twice before you do this, is all I am saying.) - nstrupp2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Many ATMs in restaurants and convenience stores are considered "mobile" ATMs and don't have cameras. My roommate swiped his card in one of these and forgot to end his transaction. Someone took most of his cash and the bank couldn't do anything about it because there was no camera. I can't say if these have cameras of not, but be aware there are ATMs without cameras.
- beanMosheen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7If you follow the installation instructions it is secure.
- Wisgary, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Most of the ATMs I see have security cameras hooked up to them. So I won't be doing that.
- KenYN, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Blame Canada

Took me a few minutes with the hints to find it, nothing difficult at all.
(Oops, I see it's already posted!) - Virak, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Why the ***** didn't they turn this off *before* putting the ATMs into use? Security by obscurity *isn't*.
- cosmospring, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Awesome! Rather than risk the illigitimate trasaction being linked to the only atm card I have (mine), here's why I'll be on the lookout for a Tranny 1500:
Step one: turn off the damn surcharge (pg. 3.23) I hate that *****.
Step two: change greeting (3.25) to something questionably witty (All your....)
Step three: Set fast cash to an extremely high amount. C'mon people, do you really need to save the extra TEN SECONDS it takes to complete a full ATM transaction? Is pressing the buttons a workout? You suck.
Final step: create "value coupon" (3.30) to be recieved by next ATM customer for "half off your pwned-ass ATM"
And if you think it'll take me too long to do this, I'm just going to dress up as an old person. Those people take forever at the cash machine anyway, and then I can act senile, too, so it won't look conspicious when I am trying the default num-code for the cash box. - zoltan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4this story is gonna be dugg halfway to china
- RonaldLewis, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Very interesting stuff. Watch out, banks.
- DoubtfulSalmon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3er... duh!
- Bullsnot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Or the guy that walks up to the ATM at night time wearing a ski mask?
- dawgma, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yeah... i think we got that, sinner.
The machine can spit out a max of 40 notes. So, set the note value to $1 (yes, you can), exit the menu, and do a normal transaction for $40.
The machine will spit out forty $20 notes. Or $800.
Then do it again.. and again.. until you reach your dialy limit. I have a limit of $500... so I could potentially score up to $10,000 dollars if the machine carries that much.
Now... I just need to find a quiet place where one of these machines are located. - sinner0423, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Read the manual that was posted in the first comment.
Without some legitimate tinkering and a pre-paid debit card, you can't just make the ATM dispense bills, it basically just lets you set all the variables on the machine. This is how it's done, you fool the machine in to thinking it's dispensing $5's, when it's actually spitting out $20's.
There isn't a magic keycode you can punch it to make it spit out money, sorry guys. Not to mention, this only works on one specific type of ATM machine. Also keep in mind that usually where there's an ATM, there is a camera somewhere around, not necessarily imbedded in the machine.
Although, I would like some free money. /me goes out and hunts down a Tranax machine. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Time till Tranax goes balistic and sends out a bulletin to their customers? 72 hours? any other guesses?
And how did that one phrase go? thou shall not...umm....steal....that's it! - waverider1899, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Well... back in my generation (2 years ago) all we did was the good old fashioned
"1-3-4-6 Coca-Cola Machine" hack.
You crazy Digg kids have taken this way too far... ATM Machines!? (For crying out loud, what's this generation coming to?)
Joking aside, this is going to be all over the news tomorrow morning, and a few people are going to get themselves arrested. So just be sure you know what you are getting yourself into before you do this. - angulion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3There is nothing to patch, it is like you would have login & password of HanSolo69 & HanSolo69
No amount of security helps if the operator isn't even willing to reset the default password to something else. - serra, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I'm sure that they will still find a way to make this illegal, so I wouldn't do it.
- Zybergod, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2It looks like there is a function that clears the log in the manual.
- tlow, on 10/12/2007, -9/+11I just withdrew 900 from local ATM, is that illegal?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Actually, this probably won't be patched. Most of these ATMs are sold to individuals (sometimes not even the owners of the establishments in which they are found) who own and operate them. Since it's the responsibility of the owner to set a secure password, Tranax isn't actually responsible, and they don't lose money directly - it's the machine owner's money anyway. So it might not affect the company - smart customers are smart enough to set a password, and the dumb ones might just never hear about it (unless tons of ATMs get hit, which might very well happen). It will largely depend on how much the company is concerned with doing the right long-term thing.
I'm reading the manual right now, and it actually sounds reasonable. Most things with passwords come with manuals that list default passwords (my router did, for instance), so I'm betting there are tons of other ATMs for which you can find similar information. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3holy cow, this is awesome. we need a db of where these are. hopefully they are in dimly lit bars, restaurants....
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I'm sure me and you and a few others can sure. But just look at the comments. Don't fool yourself. Too many children with too much free time.
Federal prisons suck kids. But don't take my word for it. Hack away. - MateFrio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Sorry guys and galls, this falls too far below my risk level threshold of a 10 million $$ or more take and recieving less than a seven year sentence if caught.
A man needs his standards.
/sarcasm - toxicredm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Yes, it's called theft. Even if you are a 1337 h4x0r and reprogram the ATM to give you more money than it should, it's still theft.
- dancurranjr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I found the manual as well within about 10 minutes of searching -- I also think the master passwords are probably backward compatible. since they are 11111 22222 and 55555
- airbornx, on 10/12/2007, -7/+9BRB, 10 MIN!
Mwa ha ha haha. - n00ch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You must have missed the part where you can only pull out 40 bills per transaction.
- joshjoneswas, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1@ibart: I think the saying is "thou shall not covet thy 7-11's atm machine"
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1thats why you do it on the county fair,
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2ZOMGTF look at my MySpace too!!!
Piss off sink-baby. - joshjoneswas, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1wow.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1As the guy above said, all banks have security cameras. Who should be worried are the branch locations like gas stations and pool-halls with the stand-up ATMs.
- joshjoneswas, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Right through the iron core.
- felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is exactly what I predicted the "hack" was in the previous thread. Everyone was talking about keys and special swipe cards - but obviously all you need is to have worked at any bar or convenience store that has a third-party ATM, and the answer is handed to you the moment you learn to stock the machine.
