- newbee70, on 10/12/2007, -3/+29And we worry about domestic surveillance. They probably lose 70% of those computers.
- thelastdyingday, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27national security is pure ***** when ***** like this happens.
- ICSU, on 10/12/2007, -3/+26Somebody set up us the bomb
- AntBing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22I fly at least once a week and have never been patted, or cupped. Stop winking at the TSA when you're walking by.

You spend more than 75% of your comment bashing the guy, instead of detailing the "degree of instability and unrest within that nation state's government, military and civilian sector." that you so eloquently mention. From my perspective, your argument seems pretty illogical and ignorant.
Anyways, @billybianks and @patriot1776,
no. - Charlesbian, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19So tell me exactly, where did the 35% of my taxes meant for national security go? Oh yea, making sure a sweaty TSA scanner pats and cups my groin everytime i get searched at the airport.
- Charlesbian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Oh Noes, now the Terrorists know which bombsite we are camping at! Hurry! Flash control room!
- PATSCRU, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18"homeland security" begins at home....I'm much more worried about a major security breach in the superpower with the world's largest nuclear arsenal than i am about whatever 2-bit operation the iranians have.....
- Mofassa, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14@polymathic
"If you truly feel that way, then you are an incredibly ignorant individual who desperately needs to educate himself on the subject matter - which you should have done anyways prior to forming your absolutist mindset. Your comment displays that you do not have the slightest understanding of Iran's threat potential, nor do you seem to appreciate the degree of instability and unrest within that nation state's government, military and civilian sector. There is no such thing as a "two-bit" nuclear weapons development program, and Iran is already well on it's way to establishing their own highly effective in-country fissile materials acquisition projects. Your illogical and foolish statement smacks of you carrying a deeply engrained pre-formed bias supported by nothing more than your extremely shallow attempt at comparative analysis, and that is a train of thought (or lack thereof) that does nothing but mislead yourself."
...without the BS
"You are stupid, learn something. Think before you speak. You don't know anything about Iran, but I do. All nuclear weapons are dangerous. Iran is close to a nuke. Your stupid comments shows how stupid you are at a stupid comparison, and that stupid train of thought makes you seem stupid."
...my interpretation
"I watch fox news, and they said Iran is close to a nuke, and they will nuke us if they have a chance. I clearly am more informed than you are cause I've watched the news, and you haven't - even though you read digg."
...in polymathic language
"My audio and visual sensory skills are far superior to yours - through careful observation of many news stations, independant reports, watching the news station I have gathered a significant amount of knowledge regarding the subject of Iran's current nuclear capabilities. This information is more than I believe you have even bothered to take the time to pay attention to, and perhaps it's about time you do. My enhanced knoweldge and use of elongated single paragraphed responses show the superior intellect that I possess and that you would be unable to present a proper rebuttle against." - echo2501, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11The plural of "sheep" is "sheep", not "sheeps". One of those nouns that don't change between singular and plural.

4 different stupid, annoying, ignorant comments
TALKING IN ALL CAPS DOES NOT MAKE YOU COOL AND DOES NOT GET YOUR POINT ACROSS ANY CLEARER - AntiBollocKs, on 10/12/2007, -8/+14Better give Jack Bauer a ring.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8How come Al Qaida has 100 masterminds and the GOP hasn't got even one?
- steelmaverick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Now seriously, how the hell do you sneak 20 computers out of a building?! Laptops are one thing, but desktops!?
- Langford, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@steelmaverick
It's still entirely possible that it's all an error in inventory. That doesn't make it acceptable, but it might be a possible explanation. From my experience in the military, I can tell you that nobody enjoys inventorying things, and it wouldn't surprise me if this came after years of pencil whipping past inventory reports. - stevewmn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6They probably are Dells. Old, worn out Dell laptops. And most of them were probably stolen for their money value rather than their deep deep nukular secrets, or they were just plain lost. From the article it looks like this is more of an property tracking/accountability problem than a spy issue. Or the spies are so good they just make it look like DOE idiots lost their laptops at Starbucks or airport terminals.
- jp3550, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Isn't that a sad way to think about it? "Oh its ok, this happens all the time." You did say "ANY corporate enviorment". -- But this is the U.S. Government.............
- jamessavik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4During WWII posters could be found everywhere that read:
"LOSE LIPS SINK SHIPS"
This was a reminder to the public that there was a war going on and that there could be serious consequences for talking *****.
NOW- we're fighting a war(*) and the Feds can't even keep track of the computers with the NUCLEAR secrets?
We're in so much F-ing trouble and apparently have no idea...

(*) whether the war is just or necessary is moot. We can still die like dogs in an unjust and unnecessary war. - Rethcir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Where's the Snuke?

- krinthekuz, on 09/16/2008, -0/+3hurray for inept IT administrators not switching to thin clients? if they're set up right, you can lose 95% of your boxes and still lose no data. the only way it's getting out is if someone videotapes or emails/posts it out on the web... or someone rolls your cluster cart out the door. IT can easily stop the emailing and posting, but videotaping and people rolling a cluster cart out the door are on building security.
- fsnuffer, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Anyone check Sandy Berger's underwear?
- Cyber_Akuma, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Just how did this information get out anyway? I mean, did some employee actually go out and say "Hey, I know we are in charge of locating people who try to steal bom secrets, but we ourself have lost 20 computers which may have contained data bout our effors, whoops."? Considering all the negative news about security breaches and the general paranoia of the population lately you'd think they would try to avoid letting information about security breaches like this out.
- snipes, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3No, not to say it's ok...just to say that it may not be as serious as it seems.
And to be honest...the government's departments are nothing BUT corporate environments. - jamessavik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Not every Federal employee is inept... but apparently enough of them are.
- MusicMagi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2***** idiots....
A spokesman for the department, Craig Stevens, said Energy Secretary Samuel W. Bodman “recognizes that we need to manage this place better.”

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sibel_Edmonds
In September, 2006, a documentary about Sibel Edmonds' case called Kill The Messenger premiered in France. The documentary focuses on both Ms. Edmonds's personal struggle to expose the criminality that she uncovered while at the FBI, and also the 'secret' itself - the network of nuclear black-market, narcotics and illegal arms trafficking activities. - salinemist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Thanks steve, I feel so much better now.

- JoeyDeacon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Dammit Chloe!
- jtoon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2They lost track of those computers. Could have happened to any large corporation. They're probably old desktops gathering dust under some employee's desk. For the type of work they're doing they should have a better tracking/documentation process though.
- snipes, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3This happens in ANY corporate environment...computers listed as 'in use' are missing or broken and undocumented or destroyed computers are being used daily. Might not be serious...
Not to mention audits are a bitch to conduct and/or go through too, someone probably was fed up and got careless. - KuntaKinte, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1and yet these dicks want the "key" to the internet
- kaiser44, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This kind of ***** goes on all the time, State dept under M Albright , It also happened again at the energy dept under the supervision of , presidential candidate Bill Richardson, He had is ass chewed on the senate floor by KKK bobby Byrd.
these bureaucrats who work under each administration should be ferreted out and if there is any person to be found negligent they should be fired and they should loose their pension. and if stuff is classified they should be tried and imprisoned.
We pay these people to protect our country and they continually put this country at risk.
NOTHING WILL HAPPEN , A INVESTIGATION WILL BE HELD AND NO ONE WILL BE HELD RESPONSIBLE.NEW DIRECTIVES WILL BE DRAWN UP AND THEY WILL NOT BE PUT IN TO ACTION AND IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN.
government wins, people loose.
no accountability. we are suckers for all of the taxes we pay to be treated with such disdain by all branches of government. When the next bomb hits I hope it hits in washington, they deserve a wake up call. - direlemming, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1the janitors are playing games on them in the basement

Former National Security Adviser Sandy Berger and Clinton appointee was sentenced Thursday to community service and probation and fined $50,000 for illegally removing highly classified documents from the National Archives and intentionally destroying some of them. He was caught with multiple documents in his socks.
