6
pages. - inactive, on 07/07/2008, -1/+76All in one page: http://www.linuxworld.com/cgi-bin/mailto/x_linux.c ...
- Kamael, on 07/07/2008, -0/+70Hack != Configuration tips
- tk0680, on 07/07/2008, -1/+49I remember when "hacking" was more than making a robot show up. A robot that was already built into the program.
- spect3r, on 07/07/2008, -0/+34Neat, does that mean I can click ads on every page? As a consumer, this is great news! :D
- machambi, on 07/07/2008, -0/+26i tried all that, Can i call myself a hacker now ?
- murrowman, on 07/07/2008, -0/+25These aren't hacks. This is more how a HowTo on Firefox 3. The majority of the article is on stuff we've been doing to FF for ages.
- featherMARIO, on 07/07/2008, -8/+27Old news.
- ileftfark, on 07/07/2008, -1/+17Delete the entire install folder.
Open terminal.
Type " sudo apt-get install firefox-3.0 "
You're doing it the hard way. - ileftfark, on 07/07/2008, -0/+14The password manager is no different than the one from Firefox 2 (and before)... and what's this noise about using it to find log in names on another PC? Unless that other PC is in your house, the password manager will be zero help.
Also, since this article is more about using built-in features of Firefox as opposed to "hacking", there should be some mention of Firefox's long-awaited support for color management (see: http://mozillalinks.org/wp/2007/08/color-managemen ... - Seaton, on 07/07/2008, -0/+10Changing your mailto: preferences to Yahoo or Gmail constitutes 2 separate "hacks"? WTF?!? Buried for misleading headline and lack of any interesting usable information.
- spookyttws, on 07/07/2008, -0/+9Cool stuff, the robot is fun, but really? 12 'quick hacks' that span 6 pages? There's something psychological about reading these articles. The depression article was submitted yesterday, spanning something like 4 pages, I thought it too long to read. Yet it was resubmitted today all on one page and I read the whole thing (great article BTW).
- vpshockwave, on 07/07/2008, -0/+9I didn't realize right clicking my toolbar and hitting "customize" was hacking.
- elpohl, on 07/07/2008, -0/+8Hacking is an undervaluated word. Or is it overvaluated? No no no... it's... overly used. Devaluated! Yeah, it's that one! Abused?
... sorry I'm high. :( :) :;; - Archos, on 07/07/2008, -0/+7Buried for six pages.
- tedrock, on 07/07/2008, -1/+7I thought firefox's mascot was... a fox...
- bullsfan03, on 07/07/2008, -0/+5...but that's like... 2 tips per page!
- Retrospekt, on 07/07/2008, -0/+5Dugg for the mailto: modification for Gmail.
- inactive, on 07/07/2008, -0/+5define:cracking
- bdfariello, on 07/07/2008, -0/+4Maybe it's a robotic fox, with faulty wiring that causes sparks to shoot out which, in turn, create fires?
That would tie everything together quite nicely. - randomtexan, on 07/07/2008, -0/+4I'm pretty sure that's why having a 'master password' is an option. Under Security>Passwords>Use master password
- bubba9999, on 07/07/2008, -0/+4"Print Article" is your friend.
- RajDhillon, on 07/07/2008, -5/+9It's new to some people (like me), so get over it.
You're not cool for being the first person to claim this as "old news", and besides, firefox 3 has only been out for 3 weeks, last time I checked 3 weeks ago isn't old news. - SwitchXFactor, on 07/07/2008, -0/+4Might be a cool article if any of these were worth a damn. Apologies for my negativity, but apparently using common customization settings like "small icons" is a hack, which is about the only thing I found useful on this page as my yahoo and gmail accounts are both spam accounts, the rest is meh.
- sega01, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3Fairly useful article, but there was no reason for it to be on six pages.
- stutimandal, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3Only a Jack will think these configuration options to be a "Hack." Hack means working around a bug (at least in the browser world), it does not means using a product.
- lambda, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3Boycott multi-page articles!
- n8dude, on 07/07/2008, -1/+4Hacks? This guy needs to learn what that word means....
- TheWindBlows, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3Yes, Just use a master password. If it bothers you so much setting a master password for everyday use making an extra firefox profile that uses a master password for important info is highly suggested.
Internet Explorer is not much better you can view Internet Explorers password with an external application that doesn't need to be installed. (I forget what but i have done it before it even pulled up passwords that were never saved.)
Opera Handles it alright gives you access to view the user but not the password.
I do think Firefox needs a privilege system with their password management as that would be great. Being able to set usable passwords that don't need a master password. choose if a user or pass is viewable with or without the master pass. Also i can't think of a browser that has incorporated this yet so it could be a feature that Firefox innovates itself. (so many of firefox features have been copied...) - jooaakim, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3Funny that the site it's on is a linux page when the article is written with the windows or possibly mac version of firefox 3 in mind.
Theres no Options under tools, its called preferences in linux and can be found in the edit menu.
theres also no big back button! - AL7AIR, on 07/08/2008, -0/+3Actually it's a panda not a fox ... http://www.mozilla.org/projects/firefox/firefox-na ...
And to clear up - or add to - the mascot confusion: Gran Paradiso, the internal project name for Firefox 3, had the robot as a mascot. - florin, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3buried for article being splattered across 6 different pages
- darkknightita, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3Buried for the 6 pages splitting, for the general lameness of the article itself, and for the misspelling and suggestion of removal of DownThemAll ;)
- digitalMessiah, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3I think all of these were known and documented before FF3 was even officially released.
As most other people agree none of these are hacks. Its like saying you hacked your computer by changing the wallpaper and enabling the screen saver.
Buried as lame ----- - kd420, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2Alot of old ones here, but I did find the zoom one pretty useful. I hate when I can't tell if I've zoomed in a page before and that's why its scrolling slowly.
- TSK05, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2Mention Blade Runner and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy but no I, Robot from which the first quote is from (the first rule of robotics)? Lame.
- Knowltey, on 07/07/2008, -1/+3no, that would be cracking, hacking would be to make an improvement to an existing piece of software, like addons for example.
I guess these could technically be called hacks since they aren't default, but I was expecting about:config stuff - Knowltey, on 07/07/2008, -1/+3I don't know how you measured that, but the back button in Firefox 3 is bigger than the other buttons. In fact it was made bigger on purpose, maybe you should read the release notes.
- 4321234, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2I'm hacking some internets right now!! FF3FTW!!
- tedrock, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2wow that link was very informative. it is a ***** panda!
- nbulp, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2Tools -> Options -> Security -> Use a master password
;)
gl/hf - ayeroxor, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2There is no Dana, er data...
http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there. ... - guidewire, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1has anyone noticed that the cursor or something gets stuck on flash embeds in firefox 3. I find that often when I want to "cmd+~" to change between firefox windows it gets stuck...and it didn't do that in 2
- ayeroxor, on 07/08/2008, -0/+1I found your problem. On all the real computers I've ever used, none of them have a "cmd" key - are you sure you're not using one of those adobe photoshop stations?
- inactive, on 07/08/2008, -0/+1Are you drunk?
The standard back button in Firefox 3 is a BIG ROUND BUTTON. - inactive, on 07/08/2008, -0/+110 and 11 are AWESOME~!
- VinnieDaMac, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1Anyone know if it's possible to make the "awesome" bar display ONLY bookmarks.
- inactive, on 07/07/2008, -1/+2Who doesn't know how to do most of these already?
I still have yet to see a good list with word "hacks" in the title. Do you guys just google firefox and hacks and click the first link you find? - wvstephens, on 09/17/2008, -0/+1I agree with datenshi, it was pulled from lifehacker
http://www.hackfu.org - 4321234, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1Throw away DownThemAll? Not. The ctrl - i media tab was there in ff2 as well, but you can only download images or media embedded in the webpage. DownThemAll will follow thumbnails to download the fullsize pic or follow links to files. And you can download whatever filetypes you filter, all on the page or tabs with one click.
