Hasbro introduces Transformers Classics line
hasbro.com — The new series of figures will feature updated versions of the first generation of TRANSFORMERS, inspired by the look and spirit of the original figures and characters. The line will include favorites: OPTIMUS PRIME, Bumblebee, Astrotrain and Megatron – which will be represented as a blaster for the first time since the 1980’s.

- mizhi, on 10/12/2007, -8/+112Unless they're made of die-cast metal like the old ones, they will still suck.
Old transformers were great, you could abuse the heck out of those things and they'd still keep working.- kevinrose, on 10/12/2007, -10/+59Very true.. I'd also like to buy the old metal Voltron.. that would rock.
- strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -14/+13agreed
These are big pieces of crap - MCHampster, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10I couldn't agree more.
We bought a couple of new Transformers for our oldest son and they're all plastic now. We won't be buying any more of those for him as they don't last very long. If they made die-cast Transformers, you can bet we'd pay a premium for the quality. - Matrix_Prime, on 10/12/2007, -30/+7you are hardly a fan of Transformers then. You're what the fan community refers to as a "Gee-Wunr", only like the Transformers from the 80's. The 80's are long dead, get over it. Besides, if you want your damn die-cast, pickup the G1 reissues.
- jjk5, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Or you can check Ebay.

I wish I hadn't given them all away.
- otherland, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12I don't have any of the toys left but I still carry a scar from one of many sharp edged, diecast metal, transformer vs voltron battles for the backyard.
It's not just price keeping them from releasing metal toys. Parents didn't sue over everything back then.
All I have is memories from those toys, not a trust fund settlement. - spoonman, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9Plastic has it's advantages. Cheaper, paint doesn't chip, joints don't loosen as easy, paint doesn't fade as quickly. From a practical perspective, it's a no brainer.
- Matrix_Prime, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2I don't understand the hate for the lack of die-cast pieces. The die-cast is what made the original figures "bricks". It's because of the fact that the majority of the figures are now plastic, is what gives the figures massive amounts of poseability, which is something that a collector always desires, rather than having a brick sit there on the shelf.
- mizhi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8@Matrix_Prime
"Hardly a transformers fan."
I'll admit to not being a raving fanboy, but Transformers were a fond childhood memory of mine.
Yeah, I only like the first G1. I tried watching the newer transformers and was decidedly non-plussed. Perhaps I'm just too old now, but it seemed to me that the 1980's version was just more fun.
The advantage of the metal is basically that the toys don't break. When I was a kid, we'd toss things in the air and crash them into things and they'd stay together and not break. They weren't collectibles when we grew out of them, but they were toys to be played with.
@CalvinSlug
I remember that later on, the toys became more plastic than not. Constructicons or Dinobots come to mind. Omega Supreme was really the last Transformer I bought because it was expensive and broke very quickly under normal use. - EgoDemens, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3You can import the Alternators line from Japan where they actually use die cast parts and are exceedingly detailed and pose-able.
Also the 20th Anniversary Optimus Prime - Geterix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+31For the last time Hasbro!
Megatron is not a super soaker! He is a HANDGUN. Yes, I know you have a hard time dealing with yuppie parents who are afraid that little Dakota will grow up to shoot up the high school if he sees one, but if you are to release a "classic" line of TFs, then Megatron is a handgun, not a flipping water pistol. - Shortpacked, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7"Old transformers were great, you could abuse the heck out of those things and they'd still keep working."
That's not really true. The first years of Transformers toys were exceedingly fragile, due to their half die-cast nature. Since they were half plastic and half die-cast, this meant the weight of the toy was uneven, making it very easy to break it. For example, Mirages always snap at the waist. It's very rare to find one that hasn't. The original Megatron's arms like to break off at the connection between the die-cast and plastic. It's like rocks tied together with Kleenex.
(Die cast metal was cheaper than plastic at the time, that's why they used it. Plastic was the more expensive material. That gradually changed, and soon Transformers were all plastic and built to withstand the constant abuse of children. You will rarely find a post die-cast Transformers toy broken.) - Geterix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Mirages always snap at the waist."
That is EXACTLY what happened to mine.
It's nice to know it just want rough play on my part. - millixaw, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Where's Soundwave?!?!?

actually I still have that same toy. It's all plastic. no metal. don't let this fool lie to you. - 6TON, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dude, I still have mine from Home. The cat one not the pussy 20 car one. Thing weighs like 20lbs. The damn jaws move up and down too. Thats bad ass. Toys no days are like disposable lighters. Kids get sick of stuff way too fast. Disposable culture almost.
- MindFlayer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+42I'm aware they can't make realistic guns as toys anymore, but did they have to make Megatron into a nerf gun?
- headzoo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+25The Megatron gun never made any sense to me anyway. A normal sized Decepticon that transforms into a gun that other Decepticons could hold? Plus it was a mother ***** to transform.
- allanpat, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14not to mention that megatron already had that HUGE cannon on his wrist. but hey, why use that when you can transform into a tiny little gun for starscream to shoot.
- bacon_skoda, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5better aim?
- lordsandwich, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Most of the G1 toys didn't resemble the cartoon versions when in robot form (especially Megatron). At least these new toys come much closer.
- JoshuaWood, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Every megatron I've ever seen is missing it's head from over enthusiastic trasnforming.
- mongrel, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5LOL, this is the first time I've seen something described as "nerfed," ACTUALLY being NERFED. How could you even get up in the morning, much less lead an evil robot army? HAHAHAHA...
In other news, I already gave Hasbro all my fun money for their Alternators line... bastards. Still, as Starscream was my first ever Transformer (I'm 30) and I was absolutely in love - I may be tempted - he still looks pretty cool. - thewebguy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8yes the starscream looks great, the rest look mad weak.
also, along the lines of megatron -- astro train was the size of the other decepticons, yet in train / jet form all of the transformers (including all of the constructicons forming devastator) could fit and have a royal rumble inside! - nesagwa, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2The Megatron is the only one that looks completely stupid.
Why dont they just make him turn into a tank like the G2 Megatron?
I always liked that one. - MrUnderbridge, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Yeah. Megatron's supposed to be a ***** Walther P38.
- OptimismPrime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The reason why Megatron transformed into a Handgun for other Deceptions to hold, was that the Toy did.
The original Transformers Toyline was a Hasbro RE-BRAND of 2 already existing Japanese Toy lines.... namely "Diaclone" and "Microchange". Microchange was "to scale" consumer electronics, like Photocameras, Cassettes and Cassette Players, Microscopes and yes, HANDGUNS. Diaclone was more or less accurate Car and Plane Models, their only thing in common was to "transform" into robots. Hasbro got the rights to sell them in the US, unified them under the Transformers banner, and got Marvel to "cook up a Story around the toys" which also was made into a Cartoon.
So they had Cars, Planes and Consumer Electronics.
Since they had a toy Transforming into a gun, they had to work it into the story, and since it made no sense to have the leader of the bad guys not to transform while the toy could, or to have it being just a big ass handgun no one but Devastator could hold it could change its size, even down to being small enough to be hold by HUMANS in some episodes. So having the toys and having to work them in somehow made for the ridiculous size changes of all of the consumer electronics Transformers. - CMfly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://www.tfracetrack.com/instructions/g1/decepticon/megatron.jpg
- GlitchEnzo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Wow! Rodimus looks awesome.
But I am kinda confused. I thought he was a car as Hot Rod, and then turned into a Winnebago as Rodimus Prime when he got the Matrix. How come his name is Rodimus, but he is a car?- mandarin, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2The writers are out of names..
- robotsongs, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11goto tfans.com ... a *ton* of fanboys there.
Basically, Hasbro can't use such generic names anymore because of copyright law. Jazz is now either refferred to as "Autobot Jazz" ot Meister (his original japanese name), Hot Rod is now Roddimus or Hot Shot, Shockwave is now Shockblast, etc...
It kinda sucks, but it's what we got, and it's much better than Optimus George, Harrold Scream or Duder Mc Daniel.
If anyone really want's some quality G1 redux, check out the Alternators line:
http://www.hasbro.com/transformers/default.cfm?page=browse&catalog=1&subbrand_id=167
Those things are *AWESOME* and way more difficult. Definitely not for kids. - robotsongs, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2for whoever digged me down, * I AM * one of the fanboys.
Geez. - mongrel, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3It's cool, I dugg you back up. - fellow fanboy
- thewebguy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4i personally don't like most of the alternators, they sacrificed the robot form too much for the vehicle form.
- rohcky, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Hot Rod can eat it. He caused OP to die. Bastard.
- whitechocolate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hasbro lost the rights to the name "Hot Rod" so now he's always called Rodimus but I guessed they still wanted him to retain his old vehicle mode.
- allanpat, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6from wikipedia:
"In the alternate universe of the 2003 toyline and series, Transformers: Energon , Rodimus (lacking the “Prime” suffix in English, but still called Rodimus Convoy in Japan) was a great leader on Cybertron ages in the past and was viewed as a hero by many"
I'm guessing the simple 'Rodimus' name is what they're chosing to call him now, even though this is the 'Classic' Transformers line where his name should be Hot Rod. Maybe he's 'Rodimus' in the new movie so they don't want to confuse people.- opti, on 10/12/2007, -12/+4Thanks. I'll add that to my list of Wikipedia pages to NOT read.
- Matrix_Prime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Because Hasbro no longer owns the rights to the name Hot Rod. I'm a diehard Transformers fan, and am the host of the worlds ONLY Transformers podcast, TFWIRE.com, so I've got my facts straight.
- inturnaround, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3It's more like you can't trademark a common name like that. Jazz is a common word. So is hot rod. You can't really expect to be able to defend a mark on a toy car and say that you're the only one who could call them hot rods.
I doubt they were trademarked in the first place, and if they were, they were probably abandoned by Hasbro as undefensible. - Matrix_Prime, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2well it IS because of Trademark issues, and it's just as I explained, Hasbro lost the rights to the names from not using them, not because of their generic nature.
- pjh3000, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Matrix_Prime is correct. For example, Bluestreak was renamed Silverstreak due to the movie Blue Streak.
- BassCadet, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8That is the best Starscream I've ever seen. Quality!
- Matrix_Prime, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10then you obviously haven't seen this one: http://www.tfw2005.com/new-prototype-images-of-mp-03-masterpiece-starscream.htm
The upcoming MasterPiece Starscream - sark666, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Yes I stopped looking half way down and went back and looked. Starscream looks fantastic. Too bad Megatron looks like crap.
- Matrix_Prime, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10then you obviously haven't seen this one: http://www.tfw2005.com/new-prototype-images-of-mp-03-masterpiece-starscream.htm
- jflint, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Man, I tore up my Megatron the first time I tried to transform him from a robot to a gun. Had to have been one of the hardest ones.
What about Soundwave and all those little casette figures that you could get with him. - tommythetomcat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Hopefully they can make Soundwave able to shrink to the size of a tape deck and be able to play cassette tapes!
- sTiVo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6If soundwave is optimized for little transformable CDs I'll be pretty upset about it...
- JohnnyVu, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Nice, after I run out of ammo for my Megatron gun, I'm going to throw it at the kid in front of me.
- slyckidiot, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7That Megatron looks like a freaking Nerf gun!
- matija, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4lame, they dont look like the originals (i've been watching the original series lots recently)
- Matrix_Prime, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2they aren't supposed to, they are updated versions, not the reissues that were released 2-3 years ago.
- Shoe, on 10/12/2007, -8/+4I'm a fan of the Starscream update; but I want to know who told Hasbro that Bumblebee is a "favorite". He's like the Orko or Snarl of the Transformers Universe.
Besides Daniel.- robotsongs, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4screw that dude. You'll find that opinion is of the minority in the transformers fan world...
Normal Fan Favorites (in no particular order):
Prime
Ironhide
Jazz
Mirage
Bumblebee
Soundwave
Starscream
Megatron (kinda)
Shockwave
Dinobots
Devastator - Geterix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I can agree with that list. However, if you owned a Jetfire or Omega Supreme, you were officially l33t.
- pjh3000, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3Bumblebee was Optimus Prime's lover.
- robotsongs, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2own"ed" both... regret not still having them...
I actually saw a boxed OS in Alameda for $60 at a shop a year ago and decided to go home and think about it.
Of course, it wasn't there the next day. :-(
*however* I did find an original VF-1S StrikeValkrye 95% complete (only missing the little Minmay figure and the instructions) at the Alemany Flea Market for $15 last summer.
SCORE!
- robotsongs, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4screw that dude. You'll find that opinion is of the minority in the transformers fan world...
- Neploxo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4The Optimus Prime pic doesn't look like it fits together well AT ALL. I'm OK with updating the look to a more modern model of truck, but this really isn't the 'classic' look I was expecting. Since when does "redesigning the G1 characters for today's kids" mean a) cheap plastic b) don't really resemble the original G1's and c) SUPER-BRIGHT NEON COLORS!
Except for Starscream, I think they look like ass. (this is coming from a kid who saved up hay-baling money to buy astrotrain)- Canthros, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Megatron aside, they're actually not bad at all (And Megatron's debatable: coloration notwithstanding, my only complaint is the two wings hanging off his back. The coloration is, sadly, what you're going to get with any toy gun in the US these days). Prime is a red, flat-front semi tractor (no trailer, it seems, but them's the breaks). Starscream is a *really* nice rendition of the character, and Astrotrain's robot mode looks excellent (the alt modes are mediocre, but did you ever see any of the other G1 triple changers?). Bumblebee and Hot Rod^WRodimus look just fine, too, and we have Grimlock, Soundwave, Jetfire, and some more coming. I'd be surprised if Thundercracker and Skywarp didn't pad out the Decepticon side a bit, too.
- Hebrewhammer913, on 10/12/2007, -32/+2Guys listen......who......cares?

- Chompy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12Classics? They aren't die-cast, and they don't look anything like the old toys. I don't want a figure "inspired by" the 80s toys, I want an *exact reproduction* of the 80s toys. Yeesh, they'd sell like hotcakes. I'm 30, I've got scads of disposable income, and I'm not alone. Take my money!
- Jessehk, on 10/12/2007, -23/+3>> I'm 30
You don't belong on Digg. ;) - guytoronto, on 10/12/2007, -14/+8>>I'm 30, I've got scads of disposable income
The benefits of Mom and Dad not charging rent for the basement. - Matrix_Prime, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Uhhh, Hasbro released those 2-3 years ago at Toys R Us, where the hell were you? Takara has been reissuing the originals in Japan for even longer.
- mongrel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6True, they released a few (and WAY overcharged for them I might add), but they sure as hell didn't re-release the old-school Megatron, that looked like a real, polished handgun. From... you know, a distance.
- Canthros, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Look up 'Masterpiece Transformer' right now. They've got die-cast Prime + trailer and a Starscream due out this fall. Assuming you don't mind parting with that disposable income of yours.
- Matrix_Prime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3mongrel: Hasbro didn't set the price, Toys R Us did. They were exclusives, hence the high price.
And no, Hasbro didn't reissue G1 Megatron, Takara did in Japan, many times. Look online if you want to pick it up, it even fires plastic bullets. - robotsongs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@ mongrel
Takara released him though... even with extras!
I sure as hell got mine. :-D
oops... outfanboy'd by Matrix Prime by a cybersecond! ;)

- Koskun, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I have to agree that most of the new ones rather look like ass.
I have the original Optimus laying around somewhere, and my first thought, as was others here, is that the new Optimus just doesn't look like it goes together well at all, and it does not look like the original at all. - WilldeLegend, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Rodimus looks like the old Hot Rod. Starscream looks pretty good. I also wonder if Astrotrain is still a triplechanger? Doesn't look it. And none of the others pictured look anything like the classic series. Takara in Japan (the originators of Transformers) re-released some of the G1s a few years back and I sent my Bro Optimus Prime... the real Optimus Prime... not some ditzy Pimp My Prime. I'm disappointed. Jazz was my first Transformer and he's not there?
- Matrix_Prime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yes, Astrotrain IS a triple-changer. There were leaked pics of the prototype a month or so back. Obviously the guy taking the pictures didn't know about the third mode. The train mode is an updated speed train found in Japan.
- Matrix_Prime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Edit: Here is the Train mode for Astrotrain: http://tformers.com/ig.php?mode=album&album=5711&dispsize=800&start=0

- Philbert, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That reminds me of the Robot Chicken when Optimus found out he had prostate cancer.
- guytoronto, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Someone should release updated Gobots as well, just so they can get their asses kicked again by the Transformers.
- Chompy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Curse them! I remember asking my parents for Transformers, and what did I get? Frigging cheapass knockoff gobots. There's like a whole market for crappy toys that get sold based solely on parental confusion.
- SageofLightning, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@guytoronto Hasbro wouldn't want to compete with itself. Hasbro now owns the Gobots so when prime wants his axels lubed he tosses a can of oil to Leader 1.
- Seibertron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That won't happen ... Hasbro bought Tonka (who owned the rights to the GoBots) during the early-mid 90s.
- dementedcrabs, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Meh, I prefer these. http://www.hasbro.com/zoids/ It’s a shame that barely any models or toys are made of metal now a days. :(.
- DublinBen, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2mmm... Zoids were pretty good.
Nice quality metal zoids would be worth good money.
- DublinBen, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2mmm... Zoids were pretty good.
- djgump35, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I had optimus and the trailer, loved that toy, wish they would rerelease the "record breakers" cars.
- Farmer77, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2When the live action Transformers Movie comes out next year, rest assure there will be new versions of Optimus and Megatron toys to take more of your hard earned dollars away.
- alabare, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Seems to me this is nothing more than a marketing ploy in preperation for the upcomming movie. Hence the cheap, plastic production. However, I do miss my transformers...sigh.
- Shortpacked, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Anyone who thinks plastic is cheap doesn't really understand toy production.
- Canthros, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Alabare: have you seen a diecast toy recently? I mean, anywhere? I know that Takara's been making the car bodies on the Binaltech Transformers from diecast metal, but the prices are exorbitant (I know: I have two of them). Ditto the Masterpiece/20th Anniversary Prime.
Hasbro has a bunch of diecast stuff in their Titanium brand, but there's not much articulation, and they're relatively expensive. And I don't know of _anything_ else.
- vikingshelmut, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Besides Optimus, Soundwave (w/ the Cylon voice) and Starscream, I always thought the best Transformer was Jet Stream. He was the huge freakin plane that was basically a rip off of a RoboTech ship. I still have all of mine!
I can't wait for the movie!- Matrix_Prime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3There was no Transformer named Jet Stream. The Macross figure that was used in Transformers was called Jetfire, and it wasn't a rip-off, Hasbro licensed the figure.
- t1c52002, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Actually wasn't there some issue with that where the orginal was released with the Macross stickers and had to be pulled cuz they did not have the license?
But yeah I agree, Jetfire is still the best one and wish they had tried to rerelease it. Yes, I am aware that a couple years ago the masterpiece one was created but that was way too expensive. - vikingshelmut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oops, you are right. I couldn't remember his name. BTW, just because they licensed it doesn't mean it wasn't a rip off. It was still not an original Transformer. Don't get me wrong, He was still my favorite!
- TuffGhost, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0Ok, wait. Astrotrain??
- SpaceNinjaDino, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Besides the fact that they use plastic these days, all the designs except for Megatron are dope. I thought I finally broke the action figure addiction. Damn you Hasbro....
- Stormwysper, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Wow, they turned Megatron gay.
- mandarin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3i always though Hound was pretty kewl..
- zatrix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4guess who will be buying them all? THIS GUY =D
- daurkin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What I loved from the old toys were the stupid decals that you had to press your finger on to know if it's a Autobot or Decepticon. You could tell just by looking at the other stickers you had to stick on them or from the shows. And remember the red decoder strip to see what the stats were for the toy. As if there was some RPG that you can play with. Armor 20, Firepower 15.
They were goofy but man I loved playing with two toys in one.- robotsongs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The classics line has them again.

- Nocturnal, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Awesome but the Voyager line looks whack just like the newer Trasnformers. Too bad they won't use diecast metal like the original ones. Here's hoping that they retro the entire lineup, including by not limited to Devastator, and the DINOBOTS!!!
- tavisjohn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4What a lame Megatron! Megatron was not a cute blaster, he was a GUN!
This is Megatron:

And in Gun Mode:

They look nothing like the calssic versions of themselves. :(- nblsavage, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Don't like it? Don't blame Hasbro, blame the folks who pushed toy safety legislation. Hasbro is limited in what colors they can use in a toy gun.

- xst4t1kx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2"Through advances in design and technology, we have been able to redesign the original ‘G1’ characters for today’s kids"
Yeah, cheap plastic.
I understand that they have to comply with how things have changed since but old megatron was a pistol that actually looked like a pistol. Exactly what did the probe analyze to get the "updated" Megatron? - taward, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1A Transformers Classic Line would be something like:
"I've got better things to do today than die"
-Optimus Prime- Matrix_Prime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Considering it was Springer that said that in the Transformers movie and NOT Optimus Prime, I doubt it.
- taward, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Copy Springer..it's been a while...
A classic line nonetheless
- katina, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5These are an insult to G1 Transformerdom. ESPECIALLY the Megatron "blaster" mode.
Digg me down all you like, redundant or not I just had to get that off of my chest.- Matrix_Prime, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2lol, hardly
- micro506, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I want a quality Soundwave NOW. NOW. And I don't mean that lame autobot ripoff tape deck.
- Matrix_Prime, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Checkout the current Transformers Cybertron toyline, it has an updated Soundwave, and he comes with Laserbeak
- HeapMalloc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Hasbro, did Prime justice with the 20th Anniversary Edition. If they want to bring back more G1 characters they should recreate them like that.
If you really want a classic G1, try to get your hands on the entire set of Takara reissues.
Maybe these will appeal to children of today, but I can't see these having much appeal to those adults in there 20's and 30's that grew up with die cast toys from the 80's. - theRIAA, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1just take a mold of the new model, put aluminum into the mold, and youll have a die-cast transformer.. kinda..
at least it would hurt if you threw it at someone..
are todays children getting dumber?- Matrix_Prime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3yes, and fatter
- Madh2orat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5women are like voltron, the more you can hook up, the better it gets.
- Shipley, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5"Unless they're made of die-cast metal like the old ones, they will still suck.
Old transformers were great, you could abuse the heck out of those things and they'd still keep working. "
Hi! I actually own a lot of Transformers made in the past 5 years or so, so I feel qualified to say this. YOU ARE WRONG.
Break any generation 1 transformer and its done. broke for good. and all the diecast did was made them heavier and less poseable.
New plastic transformers may not be perfect, but after an unruly round of DDR with my former roommate, my Unicron, Armada Prime, Galvatron, Tidal Wave, Jetfire, and Overload took an 8 foot spill off the top of my entertainment center. after spending a day or so recollecting all the peices of what amounted to $185 of the biggest figures in the Armada line... I was able to pop all the missles, arms, legs, etc back in good as new.
New Transformers pass a "drop test." Meaning they have to withstand a certain amount of force or pressue and not break off sharp peices. The designers construct toys that can hold up to play wear much, much better than anything from before 92. This is a FACT.
Of course maybe I'm just sore because I submitted this story 4 days ago and only got 8 diggs.- mizhi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Hi! I actually own a lot of Transformers made in the past 5 years or so, so I feel qualified to say this. YOU ARE WRONG."
*Shrug* My youngest brother has alot of the newer stuff. They broke quickly in his "care." Like I said, I used to abuse the heck out of my old transformers, which included making them "fly." Never had issues. I'm glad you had better experiences with the newer stuff.
- mizhi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Hi! I actually own a lot of Transformers made in the past 5 years or so, so I feel qualified to say this. YOU ARE WRONG."
- superstewy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Screw the Alternater line. The Japanese equivalent, the Binaitech toys are much better. The only one of those new one's I'd buy is the Starscrem one, it looks the best by far.
- MackPrime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wasnt Rodimus a van?
- matija, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Here are the best RARE transformers:

- fistandoodle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Ya know, when they said
>the most realistic AUTOBOTS and DECEPTICONS figures available.
I would argue. But then I realize they keep having toys out for limited times, then pull them.
They reissued a whole bunch of Transformers. I got Prime when they did it.
Now he's selling for $160 off eBay and such. :
Reissue Prime: http://img323.imageshack.us/img323/6403/491b3gg.jpg
They had very cool PVC action figures. They had large versions that were somewhat poseable, and then smaller versions that were less so. But very stylized, mostly robot form only, exact to the cartoon versions...
PVC Megatron: http://img334.imageshack.us/img334/4623/megatronhoc4zp.jpg
And of course the statues, which are stylized, comic exact versions too...
Prowl: http://img334.imageshack.us/img334/7056/prowl2ao.jpg
But I still like their Masterpiece series. Like the 20th Anniversary Prime toy.
http://www.tfw2005.com/new-prototype-images-of-mp-03-masterpiece-starscream.htm
THAT is the toy I had always wanted to see. Ultra real, looked close to the comic in both robot and vehicle form. Even had the Matrix, Megatron in gun form (why would Prime even have it?), and for the Convoy (Japanese) version, cardboard trailer (made from toy box).
I am glad that Hasbro is still remaking the toys. I just dislike them trying to "stay true" to the originals yet "update" them for a new age.
You want to update? Do like you did with Beast Wars. Keep the general theme/idea, but don't reuse the same idea.
I tried to watch Armada, but that was just painful. Yet I can still watch the old Transformers cartoons...
Atleast Energon, one of the recent cartoons, brought around a Unicron toy. http://img334.imageshack.us/img334/9825/unicron8gh.jpg - VeganG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1These design changes look retarded.
- satori3000, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1this is a new definition of Classic that I was not previously aware of. Does this mean that we simply didn't see what they were supposed to look like before we all grew up with them? ...and when did Megatron become a revolver? Nerf, super-soaker, whatever... he's an automatic, not a revolver.
- alej744, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1who cares?
- carve, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I LOVED Transformers when I was a kid. I think they may have even had some influence on my eventually becoming a mechanical engineer. I loved playing with all of the different types of joints and seeing one thing turn into another.
I still have all of my old G1 Transformers, too (and Star Wars, mask, gobots, GIJoe, and He Man). I remember when I first got them, for Christmas, after what seemed like about a year of asking. I got StarScream (and his duplicate) and Optimus Prime. I eventually got a collection of about 30+ of them, including Metropolis and the complete Aerielbots box set, complete in box with all parts. If anyone is interested in buying them (or any of the other toys), let me know (all have play wear, but are complete)- cyberghost232, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I would be very interested in buying Metroplex and the Arielbots.
- cyberghost232, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The Binaltech line from Takara are made from diecast metal, well mostly. I have to say I have all the Alternators lineup and both 20th year Optimus Prime and Ultra Magnus with the trailer for both of them and am very impressed on the design of them all. Keeping them sealed in box for as long as I can. Can't wait for the movie but I think these ones look just a little bit to toyish for me.
