- berty38, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14What article? Isn't it just a website? It's a cool website, yes, but why do these comments sound like eBay seller ratings? A++++++++
- r0ck3tm4nn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Yes, god forbid if Americans are allowed to eat food.
- petrograd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8guys, we just ***** it. That's why it's not working, give it time.
- greg04, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9why is everyone ignoring my comment? their site must be getting screwed up. i typed my zip code in about 10 minutes ago and got 20 results, and now it is giving me back no results. the service works.
- crawf061, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10at the time of this comment there are 16 comments and every single one of them has +0 diggs... freaky
- jonahan52, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Well it'd be better if it would just give one random resturant ... Since it gives you 10. You'll see the #1 then go oo #6 looks good too.. ***** now we're back to square one.
- Yeabudy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6"THE SITE IS CURRENTLY BROKEN, too many users, check back tomorrow."
D'oh! - billisdog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6This is obviously oen guy in this thread, commenting dozens of times under different user names. Notice the consistency of the bad spelling and grammar. "Alot" appears throughout many of the earrly comments. You can just tell in tone, that it is all the same guy.
- thehigherlife, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6no one looks before they type.
it worked for me before, now it doesn't - buryme, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6The comments sound eerily similar...I don't really see what the big deal is about this site. There are several sites that do this, only you can look up more than just restaurants. I guess if you're lazy and don't want to type "restaurant," this might be useful.
- jbestrom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Why don't you just open the phone book turn to a page with restaurants on it and flip a penny on the page where it lands is where you go. LAME.
- TVarmy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I'm pretty sure it's dugg. I tried my current town, a fairly large suburban area with a large number of Italien restaurants, and got nothing. Thinking maybe their databases weren't out to places that weren't in cities, I tried 90210 (Beverly Hills). I got nothing there, too. The database is down, but the site is up somehow.
EDIT: I just read the text. It says "THE SITE IS CURRENTLY BROKEN, too many users, check back tomorrow." So, I guess it is dugg. :P - greg04, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6amen, my brother.
- s1rk3ls, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Nice idea, but relying on another website (especially one with a limit like this) is unreliable and not worth promoting. Now if you work out a deal with Yahoo or Google Local or some other content provider to use an API and not be restricted to the number of results you pull it could be a very nice tool!
Good luck, but no digg until a more reliable version is made. - rmal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Most people don't read. The site uses Yahoo and Yahoo limits connectiosn to 5000 and you've already hit 5000. You're adding nothing to the discussion by saying no restaurants no digg, well we know what the problem is enough of you said it. We're working on getting it back up so please be patient.
- rmal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The site is using Yahoo and Yahoo limits to 5000 connections a day and apparantly that has been hit.
- MrWebsites, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5This website is ideal in preventing those unwanted debates over what restaurants to visit.
This idea behind this tool is superb. It would be great if it had Canadian restaurants as well. - apexad, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5at some point I plan on using my own database, but hopefully, as i said, Yahoo Developer will ge UK Post Codes, Canada too.
- jeshjohn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3works for me in alabama.. eveywhere I try.
- Ludwig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I tried this at work a few weeks ago. It told me I should get Orange Julius for lunch.
They don't even make food. - thexder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3They should add an option to remove places or genres. This is for those times when your wife says, "I don't care where we eat, you pick, I'll eat anything" After which you suggest restaurant after restaurant while being told "Anywhere else but there, yuck" It would save hours in the day and perhaps years in my life.
- pplante, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3maybe thats because they are? :)
just kiddin. - tedson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I did this a long time ago...
www.lunchslots.com - greg04, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4relax. the site must have gotten messed up because of how many hits it is getting. the service was working at one point.
- GeneCosta, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I haven't even heard of half of these places. I should check it out tomorrow. Thanks
- apexad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This site has moved to http://www.restaurantselector.com
- apexad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I HAVE ADDED A MIRROR and so the site is functional again. Now, to work on some AJAX so that i do not need it. Anyway, If your curious about the AJAX, visit http://www.restaurantselector.net/ajaxtut/ for a simple table that uses it.
- tek1024, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why are these people praising it getting modded down?
- SteveDeGroof, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1//giant menu of everything available within a certain zip//
That'd be handy. "Hmm, I feel like Eggs Benedict. Let's see who's got that." - lnf69, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4I don't live in America either. Are only expats interested in this? Fun idea.
- LemonHerb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Best website EVER!
Most Digg users wont relate, but the amount of time this will save me from arguing with my girl is going to be huge. - killdashnine, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Nice, however "Lampert's Plush Pig BBQ" keeps showing up in my list, but has no location (although it says it's 0.06 miles from my house). Obviously there are a few kinks in the system, and now my stomach is grumbling for some pulled pork!
- Xinareiaz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1THE SITE IS CURRENTLY BROKEN, too many users, check back tomorrow.
- cdrw, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3This seems to be a great idea and practical one too. Many atimes we are confused over which restuarant to go and at times are not even aware of ones in a particular area. This should ease out the work. Keep it up.
- bu11et, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dr Lunch still exists. http://www.drlunch.com
- merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Nice idea....but save gas get it delivered."
If the delivery guy drives... doesn't that take just as much gas? - bu11et, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Also, Dr. Lunch is *not* the same things as the site in the article. Dr Lunch lets users enter the list of restaurants. It makes an intelligent decision of which restaurant to eat at based on the preferences of the people going to lunch. It doesn't choose some random restaurant from a small list.
- Zzzzz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2DIGG effect in progress.... If you all look, the site is broken from too many users. So maybe all of you people that are complaining about it not wokring should READ the site before you enter your zip code.
- Arcadia, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Pretty nice place if you are unsure where to go tonight :)
- barnett25, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1A guy here where I work made a similar site for our internal use. It is pretty cool. He called it the Lunchinator. The difference with it is that all of the people going out to lunch could login and choose from some random restaurants, and select the ones they did not want to eat at. It would then pick one randomly from the remaining choices.
- dignation, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2It just started saying that a few minutes ago
- JeffT1545, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2This is total spam *****. Auto-comments, mostly from users who registered in the last week or so.
"sweet idea. great on advertising this site.." haha yea what wonderful advertising! Spaaaaaam. Reported. - klethron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I did something like this for my local area a while back. Not quite as fancy http://www.prosoftco.com/lunchfusion/
- badnewsblair, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Works well. Thanks. +digg
- wadelindsey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Anyone remember Dr. Lunch? It was the same thing minux AJAX.
- yoonix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1lame. I'll just go to yahoo and use the service this guy is front-ending.
- negtive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great idea, but could be dangerous in NYC if you don't want to spend a fortune or don't want to end up in a dive. I'm writing this without actually seeing any results from the site so take it with a grain of salt...
- dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Yeah, something weird is going on. I wonder if it has anything to do with Digg's brilliant idea to "expand into other markets."
- moted, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3I agree with the above mentioned, it failed to return any result for Salt Lake City. Did it get dugg effect already?
- MattLat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I just made a spinner :P
