- wycats, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4This is awesome news. jQuery is the best library, and Ext has the best components. It's an unbeatable combination.
- mcsnolte, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I agree, jQuery is the easiest library I've seen to get stuff done fast! But it's really lacking in its offering of quality widgets - this will be a huge help. For example, even simple widgets like Sortable lists from Interface http://interface.eyecon.ro/ and the only Data Picker I can find http://kelvinluck.com/assets/jquery/datePicker/ are very basic and buggy.
- phytar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@mcsnolte: This is precisely why we're now supporting Ext - it has a ton of widgets, all of which will be usable with jQuery. Here's just some of what's going to be in Ext 1.0:

- biohaz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ummm no it doesn't. It doesn't sound negative at all. In fact, he agreed with you...
- 413x, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Hooray! :)
- cdomigan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1jQuery ftw
- ronnyherc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1very good news thanks to jQuery and Jack Slocum.
- ricardojparada, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is awesome news. I can't wait.
- ricardojparada, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2That is awesome news... I can't wait.
- rip747, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2John and Jack are my heroes :)
- kbansner, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Yeah.. If you could just add Tantek now, you'd have all 3 of my favorite software heroes together making awsome software I can use all day, even overtime.
- benlong, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2jQuery is lucky to get Jack Slocum on board with their project! I'm glad to see them working together because it will benefit the entire js community. In jQuery's Ext announcement, John Resig says, "It’s a win-win situation: jQuery gets some awesome components, Ext gets a huge influx of new users."
While Ext may get a large influx of new users, ultimately this means Yahoo gets new users (by proxy). The current version of Ext is YUI (Yahoo User Interface) based, and Jack Slocum has done a wonderful thing. Even if Jack Slocum is simply (in a super slick and extraordinarily efficient way) porting many of his components to jQuery without the need to have YUI, sending jQuery users over to yui-ext.com will expose would be engineers to the YUI library. There are not many reasons to have YUI and jQuery in the same application.
So, when Resig says it's a win-win, I agree. Not because of new jQuery controls, or because Ext gets an influx of users, but because the community as a whole will gain from the banging of brilliant minds.- phytar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Great post benlong. Just to clarify a point that you made "There are not many reasons to have YUI and jQuery in the same application" - this change to Ext will make it so that you don't have to use Yahoo UI, at all, in order to use Ext. Ext will be completely free of framework-specific code. (Allowing you to choose either Yahoo UI or jQuery, for Ext 1.0.)

- ricardojparada, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have some questions I'm trying to answer.
What exactly is Ext?
What exactly is YUI?
Are they dependent on each other? Or is Ext a subset of YUI?- phytar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Ext is a set of JavaScript components and widgets that you can insert into a web page (like a table grid, a tree, or a dialog box). Ext relies upon other JavaScript libraries to do much of the grunt work. Currently, Ext depends upon Yahoo UI (a JavaScript Library written by developers at Yahoo) in order to run. As of Ext 1.0, the library will be able to run on either Yahoo UI or jQuery (an Open Source JavaScript Library). Ext is developed completely independently of Yahoo UI, it's primarily written by the freelance developer Jack Slocum.

- matt2012, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Where some people might have got caught endlessly competing John and Jack have seen the possibility of cooperation this is a significant milestone for jquery as it allows devs to drop in professional components for projects without necessarily being too concerned about the js. I cant wait for the Ext 1.0 release.
- Bouvillon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0It is awesome. JQuery is lightweight and powerful and this integration with Ext is responsible.
- ricardojparada, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Thanks John Resig... you answered all my questions regarding Ext and YUI. I was a bit confused.
- DanAtkinson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wawaweewah! That is amazing news!
Jack's Ext is totally awesome, and so is jQuery.
Combining both is just a really really great announcement! I really can't wait! - casinosgames, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0I also think it's a good as JQuery,,,
But I think you should also check this sites...
