- NoOneButMe, on 10/10/2007, -0/+23Personally, i don't think you can define "Web 3.0" until it comes. Maybe by that point, we'll find a better name for it as well.
- Tangaroa, on 10/10/2007, -12/+30Web 3.0? That would be back around when they added tables. We're up to web 5.1 now if you count xhtml as a major version upgrade of the WWW.

I hate marketspeak. Can you tell? - musntSurfatWork, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12personally, I will wait for Web 3.11 for Workgroups. Then Web '08. I hear there's a roadmap for Webhorn and Websta.
- meshman, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13When there has actually been a second version of the web, then there can be a 3rd. I don't get why these people keep holding up apples and calling them oranges and bananas.
- omarciddo, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13I like turtles.
- tippmann1, on 10/15/2007, -8/+18the term web 3.0 and web 2.0 don't really refer to the markup language used but more what you do online. web 1.0 is static web pages that didn't adapt to a specific user, while web 2.0 is socially driven and dynamic. Web 2.0 adapt to a specific user to make their experience more personalized. and web 3.0 will be god knows what. more than likely it will still be socially driven bet will somehow be better in some respect.
- aphonik, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12Screw web 3.0, its all about web 4.0 now. :|
- KevenM, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6It's be cool if we could fix 1.0 and 2.0 first
- capiCrimm, on 10/15/2007, -1/+7*woosh*
- jnark32, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4don't you mean webolution?
- snugglebear, on 10/15/2007, -1/+5Do none of you get sarcasm?
Christ. - loganhid, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Oh God. Everyone's going to start using the 3.0 now on every bloody thing!
- MioTheGreat, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Can't we put a service pack on Web 2.0 first?
- capiCrimm, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4your logic depends on "Web 2.0" some day actually being defined.
- liquisoft, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5-Insert condescending and rude comment here.-
- capiCrimm, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3You could actually factor Usenet and BBS into the equation and we would be at Web 3.0 or some such thing. Hell you could consider IRC, SMS, and Bittorrent versions of the internet. Just as equally valid as html over port 80.
- capiCrimm, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3How about we try and tap the retro web1.0 market? Crazy Idea, but it just might work.
- Klinky, on 10/15/2007, -2/+5I think it's too early to start defining "Web 3.0", "Web 2.0" hasn't been truly defined yet.
- RobotBuddha, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Bring it on. If it'll get people to pay me more for giving their site a minor facelift, I'm all for buzzwords.
- ASSHO, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Web 3.0 is about the semantic web.
- caban, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I really don't need to access various web services when I'm out for lunch our out shopping...I rather sit in front of my computer and access the internet than use a tiny screen when in the middle of a crowd or in traffic. If I want to look at a shops catalogue on a screen I do it from my computer before I go there. When in the crowded shop I want to see and touch the items, and not stand and browse on my iPhone.
For some applications mobile internet is great, but those are rare exceptions and the majority of people spend most of their time at work and at home and hence it's obvious that mobile will only play a minor part in the future of the web.
Obviously the author is very excited about his iPhone, but most of the examples of services he mentions doesn't at all need to be accessed from a mobile device and it would be more convenient to use a proper computer unless you spend most of your day running around and don't have access to a desktop or laptop. - EspressoNinja, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The cool thing to do in web 2.0 was to slap the word "beta" on everything. So in web 3.0, I'll start the "debug release" trend.
- chrisxkelley, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4you also lose.
- MOJIRA, on 05/17/2008, -0/+3I have two things to say:
1) http://www.*****.com
2) The future is "Web Candle + Monkey." (anyone? ask a ninja? no?) - biocandy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Where can I download an upgrade for web 3.0 ?
- Cannon13, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3*****, I still haven't figured out what Web 2.0 is!!
- indiefan, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5i used to think so too until the iphone came along. Pretty soon (because companies, wisely, copy good ideas) more and more phones will follow apple's paradigm. Same content, modified interface. Don't get me wrong, i'm sure there will be changes made to better accomodate mobile browsing, but not as many as i thought there would be before the iPhone.
- brandonr, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Can't we stop discussing what the next revolution will be and focus that saved energy on trying to make something new that's cool and useful? It seems the speculators are doing more than the developers.
- chrisxkelley, on 10/15/2007, -2/+4thirdly, you lose as well.
- Atomic1fire, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2no that was yesterday
its web5.0 or bust - sfacets, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3My opinion? Web 3.0 doesn't exist. Stop putting ridiculous names on things that don't exist.
- mckirkus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Mobile is only the future according to people who have run out of ideas that work when you're sitting in front of a computer. I think hyperlocal will be as big or bigger than mobile. That and personal servers. A lot of interesting things would happen if we all had 5 static IPs, like open source replacements for Flickr, Facebook, Itunes, etc. with P2P layered on top running on our personal servers.
- stockjones, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2More tech jargon loaded words.
- capiCrimm, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I feel sad for you, because not only did you double post, but you double posted an assload of text. Much of which is in caps... you should sleep with a knife under your pillow. Someone may try to find your house and kill you.
- tdous, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2It pays more to speculate if you can *****.
- chrisxkelley, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1yeah... web 3.0 is where you go outside and play.
- ForbesBingley, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Web3.0 will be whatever we want it to be. That's the real revolution...
- Burn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Looks like a pretty standard Web 2.0 company to me.
- Unclickable, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Here is what real web 3.0 will be: My computer (dumb terminal) creates content on it's own without my involvement by taking different pieces from the web and rearranging them. Joe's website aggregates this content right away. Peter's computer visits Joe's website with my 'content' surrounded by ads from AT&T and Microsoft. We all share the profit. That all happens while we are away from our computers.
- Atomic1fire, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I seriously think it will just be called the mobilenet
- luet, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1stupid: "Web 3.0 starts with your phone"
everyone knows that web 3.0 is INTERNET COFFEE PHONE - tnoy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I hate the idea of "Web 3.0" becoming an internet buzzword more than I hate people using "AJAX-y" as an anjective.
- greendaale, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Do not kill the messenger...err...darn tubes...
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You lose.
- KingBunny, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It's web 7.0 we need to worry about. You know that ultra-hyper-net we're going to build for web 6.0? Well, web 7.0 will incorporate the net into itself and start "the machine war". Things only get worse with webs 8 through 11.
- armnpsycho, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I don't understand how people like this can talk about the iPhone as a gateway to this type of technology. HTC has been creating devices with all of these features for years.
- Coolestdude1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1sounds like hackers 3 to me!
- jbiz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I wish Facebook would just get on with it already and go public and become a huge company so everyone would ***** forget about social networks. They're already boring enough.
- MtheoryX, on 10/15/2007, -1/+2Way to be specific there. "...somehow better in some respect" ?? WTF??
You do know the term "Web 2.0" was intended to simply differentiate between now and the dot-com-bust, right? - Ireland, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Bravo! I don't know what it is, but we all know it's coming, that's for sure. Maybe Web 3.0 is when people in the internet become nice again?
