- GeneralAntilles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Is it me, or is Window's font rendering terrible?
- SilentNoOne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1here is the pic of all the fonts, page is loading very slowly

I knew that my fonts looked ***** when I turned off font smoothing in Linux (Gnome and KDE), but I thought that Windows was a little better. Evidently not. It looks like the most basic fonts are okay, but pretty much nothing else is. My feelings for bitmap fonts are suddenly much warmer.

Look farther down and you can see ClearType enabled screenshots. The author turned off antialiasing on the first set (I have no idea why). I guess to contrast better with the ClearType version - steven509, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://www.donationcoder.com.nyud.net:8080/Forums/bb/index.php?topic=2499.0
- deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Andale Mono is my personal favorite
- panique, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I like Andale Mono 11 myself.
- bigteebo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Which font is the classic CGA 640x200 font?
- master_of_fm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Courier New is my favorite, reminds me of typewriters. for you kiddies typewriters were the analog predecessor to word processing programs.
- itistoday, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0damn, while Monaco is great at 12 point, I was wondering if there was anything better.

http://keithdevens.com/wiki/ProgrammerFonts - scblock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've tried most of these but ended up sticking with the old SGI screen font. I managed to convert a BDF version of the font to a windows .fon file (which is technically broken but works in Windows XP). A friend of mine converted it to a TTF that is also broken but works well on Mac OS X.
The fonts are broken because the good font tools cost money, so we had to use bad tools. - jroad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Here's a mirror of the ClearType version:

- thecwin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why do these ClearType shots have like reds and greens on the edges of the characters on my system. I use standard RGB subpixel antialiasing on GNOME and don't see any colours at the edges of characters (unless I look really close)
- name, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They forgot the terminus font:

Your screen must have a different RGB subpixel order. If you take a screenshot from an LCD with RGB ordering and view it on a screen with BGR ordering, you will get what you describe. I see no effects like you descrbe. - mentor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Meh. Using ClearType rendering for a portable screenshot as a comparison of fonts is...not the brightest thing ever done. Of course, I reserve judgement waiting on a standard screenshot.
But, Andale Mono, Crystal, an BVSM look good. Not sure what they're talking about when referring to the numbers. - mtanderson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0++ for Consolas on Windows
- Sixcolors, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Who knew that such lively conversation could be held over monospaced fonts?
- mbiesz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What about Consolas? I have been using it for over half a year, and have never looked for another font since (at 9 pt. size for best effect).
- webcrumb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0They missed Consolas. ;)
- kenfagerdotcom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Already dugg to death? Grrrr...
