- zeman, on 10/12/2007, -3/+25I'm working on a Masters in Design project that uses the Digg API, adds tags from Del.icio.us and cross references with Google and Yahoo. Still under development but check it out. It's like a personified search aggregator with social search features.

Love some feedback! - d3faultnet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16am i the only one that doesn't consider an "xml feed" to be an "API"?
- 2L84ME, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I think he did mean "personified". The search is being personified by the robot.
(Great tool zeman BTW!) - d3faultnet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4manipulating xml streams is still possible in php4... it's just takes a bit more skill...
- headzoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4If you can make a request for specific information, it is an API. And the "xml feed" you mention is REST. At the end of the day, that's all REST is: Request a specific URL (resource), and get XML encoded data in return.
What? If it's not wicked complicated to access, it's not an API? - tommorris, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Err, most of the web services APIs around these days are XML feeds (see: Flickr, del.icio.us etc.) - maybe XML-RPC or SOAP at a push (both of which are XML-based).
I haven't got a problem with Digg putting out a REST-based API - only I wish there was more data. My digg viewer would be so much more efficient if they made available a way of pulling out a user's list of friends. - blueigloo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Keep in mind that SimpleXML is for PHP5 only. (Enabled by default in PHP5, but you php4 folks are left out)
- gstuartj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Keep in mind that it's unreleased. I'm sure this won't be the entire API.
- xpose, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3How and why did this make the front page? Its just an xml feed. If you dont know how to parse an XML feed with php5, programming is not for you.
- Dested, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I know the thread is about PHP, but the .NET api that he links to at the bottom is pretty cool. Good download for anyone who is also addicted to .NET.
- headzoo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Anyone know if Digg plans on adding more to the API than just stories? Meaning comments, comments left by , profiles, etc?
- Nebbie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I need to spend more time with it, but so far it seems great. Found webpages I wouldn't have found easily through Google alone. Good work!
- gstuartj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Please note that I have updated my Digg API function and TinyDigg example script. Details here: http://selfproclaimedgeek.com/2006/11/06/digg-api-functiontinydigg-updated/
- tommorris, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The easiest way to get SimpleXML-type functionality in PHP4 is through this library: http://keithdevens.com/software/phpxml
- Tialys, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2But... it lets me do stuff with digg.
(I agree, an XML feed is NOT much of an API. Wonder why digg is draggin' it's feet?) - zeman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yes I did mean "personified", that's what my Masters is looking into...
Searchbots.net is an experimental search engine that investigates the use of mythology, personification and game theory as motivational strategies in creating a sustainable search community. Searchbots has a rich history and is unique in that it allows you to search using more "human" and entertaining types of information like colour and mood. If you picked the colour red you might get a website about tomatoes, communism or angry people. - blueigloo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thats what I meant... of course you can still parse XML in php4, just you can only use SimpleXML in PHP5
- Keloran, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1very cool app
- estacado, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Is there documentation for the API? How the heck am I going to know what services are available if there's no documentation.
- amprancid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I just uploaded some documentation my friends and I have been using to develop our own unreleased tools. Enjoy.

- noahhoward, on 10/12/2007, -11/+1Personalised? I shouldn't pester, I know we developers can't spell... just make sure you're consistant.
