- maheshee11, on 10/11/2007, -1/+17That's an awesome list.
- cmiller1, on 10/11/2007, -2/+13Am I the only person that can just do hex colors in their head? I always assumed everyone who works with css or html could do that
- Grumps, on 10/11/2007, -1/+866 digg, 0 reddit. Its a clear win.
- str3ama, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7check these out:
/www.colorjack.com - PureForm, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6I really hated the days of having to adhere to 256 colors .... that and people using color names instead of hex values, i.e. "cornsilk" or "linen". Great list!
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4You may not be the only person who CAN do them in their head....but you're the only person who would want to.
- meatmcguffin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4If there was a top ten list of text editors designed for coding, textmate would be in all ten positions.
- onineko, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3http://w3schools.com/tags/ref_colornames.asp
http://w3schools.com/tags/ref_color_tryit.asp?hex=F0F8FF - LordofShadows, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3#RRGGBB High byte is red values, middle byte is green values, low byte is blue. Hurrah.
As for the whole 256 color thing, the os will dither to the closest match anyhow. - TenebrousX, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Notepad++ > all
- SomaSynth, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Finally I can throw out my websafe colors poster.
- oojamaflip2006, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I didn't think I'd dig this but I do, and I did. Very useful for website and/or UI designers.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Coda FTW.
- indirect, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2DB3E3A off the top of my head is a washed out red-brown.
- ripstuntz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Fantastic list, always great to have little tools like this!!!
Thanks! Dugg. - TheMu, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2This just replaced the W3Schools one that was previously in my Quick Links. Thanks.
- Sun.Surfin, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3WYSIWYG editors FTL.
Notepad 2 brought me to salvation. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Especially since I just learned I can mount a remote directory via sshfs, and then pop that into textmate.
- fjf314, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Wow... I'm glad I wasn't into web development when people were using color names. I figured I was done with ridiculous color names back in elementary school when I stopped using crayons.
- pezholio, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Or you could just fire up Photoshop and get the hex reference from that.
- resplence, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Not only is this list useless, it's also presented in a way that makes it just impossible to actually use it to find a color for use in a design project.
Colourlovers is cute, but is not aimed at designers. 99% of the palletes are simply nice little color flags. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Follow-up story? Sure, go here:

- flashcat7777, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Yeah, it's a great list, but it's lacking the grays!

- Artemisian, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Awesome. Just awesome.
- wildfire, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2VisiBone has something similar, although evenly spaced on perception, and in RGB.
http://www.visibone.com/color/kilochart_900.jpg - uzair21, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Really cool man. Also available at http://tips-for-new-bloggers.blogspot.com but number of colors is less there.
- tecabh, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0incredible
- PureForm, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1textmate?
- etnu, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0How hard is it to convert 3 decimal numbers into a a 6 digit hex string?
"Web Safe" colors are totally unnecessary these days. You'll be hard pressed to find a display adapter created in the last 8 years that is not using 8 bits per channel for color. I'd bet there are fewer people with 8 and 16 bit displays than there are people running IE 5. - mcm297, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2Finally a web 2.0 color code site. Dugg for that reason.
- theplaz, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1You don't need this. I use Absolute Color Picker to first of all select colors on screen and then tweak them for the color I want, and then it spits out the hex code.

- Rekzai, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1MIRROR ?
- allonline, on 10/11/2007, -2/+0This was posted before.
Color Schemes and Color charts and color charts with names of colors.
http://www.coolwebpagetools.com/color-scheme-viewer.html - bakkouz, on 10/11/2007, -5/+2Well, most professional text and html editors these days has a built in color picker which contains the color palette and displays the values in Hex.
so that's pretty much covers it. - outgun, on 10/11/2007, -7/+3Is there going to be a follow up story explaining why this is so useful?
- sicapitan, on 10/11/2007, -6/+2apple-shift-C in textmate
why do i need this?
