- mykoleary, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1No, but calling the post "ten sites I use every day to waste time at work that aren't really all that interesting, but now I can use this post as a Bookmark manager" wouldn't make the front page of Digg.
- AllKnowledge, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0The web needs to have an application that shuts up all you whining babies with your lousy comments, and prevents you from putting your ugly faces in your avatars!
Commenter #8 is a loser! - thecoolestcow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0what the flip is web "2.0"? i agree with emrikol, i think i need to upgrade.

good stuff here this time though, so digg+ - benw, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0"What is Web 2.0?"
A bunch of marketing hype and venture-capital money-grubbing BS used to describe pre-existing technologies. - twid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0>>Seriously enough of the social bookmarking, startpage, to-do list nonsense.
#3 - social bookmarking
#4 - social bookmarking
Just sayin'. - Wolflook, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"A bunch of marketing hype and venture-capital money-grubbing BS used to describe pre-existing technologies."
No, it's not describing the technologies, it's describing the experience of using the web. And who cares if they are pre-existing technologies. Let's face it, we've seen some fascinating new uses of these pre-existing technologies in 2005. There has been a lot of innovation that we haven't seen in the web for a few years now. - shockingbird, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I only bookmark socially.
- gimpshop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Where's Google Maps? Where's del.icio.us? Where's Craig's List? These things were Web 2.0 when Web 2.0 wasn't cool.
BTW, the "I only bookmark socially." comment was PAR EXCELLANTE! - gimpshop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0oops, almost forgot musipedia.org - holy cow! You can *WHISTLE A TUNE* and it tells you name of the song!
- tellall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"innovation" is nonsense if nobody uses your product.
let's look at site traffic for each of these... here are the ones that aren't even on the map: travbuddy, tagcloud, networthiq, sidejobtrack, gchart, and givemeaning. rollyo and mooflex BARELY register on the radar.
and what makes givemeaning.com web 2.0?
ugh -- this makes me want to stop using digg. - TheSiz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0However this "experience of using the web" is not something that appeals to everyone. Social bookmarking, although an interesting concept, is something I am really sick of after hearing about it and experiencing it for a bit. I had my fun with 43things and all that for a couple of days, but enough is enough. I was initially excited at the possibilities, but got more and more bored of it as time went on. Do people actually wanna know the 43 things Jim Bob wants to do?
And the worst is that many of these sites contribute to the loss of our privacy. If you were consistent with your usage of social sites, I could track your every move, your every thought, 43 or less things you were doing, 43 or less places you want to go, what kind of news you dig and find interesting....
Everything you say and do, every flame war you start, every insult you type is then indexed in Google and stored. Then, a potential social connection of any kind (ie, employer) could do a simple query and find out what you are really like. If I search for my real name on google, I get links to my 43 things profile. What I would like to do something on there are a potential employer really dislikes?
I guess some people, including myself, don't really mind. After all, most of us are tech-oriented, aware of the risks and as careful as we can be. But what happens when the real wave starts and non tech-oriented people start using these sites?
One of the advantages of these social sites is the personal level that can be achieved, but this can also be a bad thing because it is public. - jmichno, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0MooFlex? WTF. They don't even have a public product yet. It could be 90% smoke and mirrors...
- homeobocks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0OH SHI- I'M STILL ON WEB 1.0 I NEED TO UPGRADE!
Seriously, Web 2.0? Give me a break. - ThePharaoh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Some pretty interesting websites. I'll give this one a digg. MooFlex doesn't work on FF on my Mac. I'm going to give TagCloud a try though just to see what I get with my new blogger support site Frenetic Network.

http://www.frenetictech.com - wencho, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm sure "Web2.0" may be related to more things, but one thing that identifies it is that websites and applications are no longer developed with an eye on compatibility with older browsers (remember the era of trying to make everything work in Netscape 4?); look at all these web2.0 sites and usually they all use the latest stuff with little or no regard if it doesn't work on old browsers.
- Hrekum, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0nice summary. dugg.
- Mizark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0why is every site in perpetual beta
- dereko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why do people have a problem with 'web 2.0'? Its just a phrase to give a name to the current trends of net usage. The internet is no longer just a place where we look for and collect information but a place where we can store and organize it to. That's a powerful concept and one worthy of a name.
Web 2.0 is a very nerdy name for it admittedly, a different one would make it easier to adapt into the main stream. I think people saying things like "Web 2.0? Give me a break" probable haven't though past the phrase's literal meaning and really haven't a clue whats going on around them. It's the potential of the applications listed here that is really exciting which act as prototypes for what ultimately leads to a complete cultural change.
Over the top? possible, but at least give some thought to what you're commenting on. - dereko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0btw, not even close in terms of top 10 "web 2.0" associated apps or services.
del.icio.us
bloglines
google maps
basecamp
wordpress.com
to name a few that would have to be in that list or at least ahead of most suggested
