- inactive, on 12/28/2007, -1/+62Are you using Firefox now? Because you misspelled dictionary.
- dibdidit, on 12/28/2007, -9/+66if you use Firefox, it's already a feature, and you can get a dictionnary for almost any language!!!
- ajlozier, on 12/28/2007, -0/+16several are missing the point. the plugin isn't for YOU, it is for your users. you can't control what browser/OS they are using, no matter how much you may want to. its a limitation professional developers have to work within every day.
great plugin- i'd like to see a jquery adaptation though.. - Huknows, on 12/28/2007, -3/+18thanx I can raelly use this
- bincoder, on 12/28/2007, -5/+16Real men take pride in their creative spelling, and dislike nannyware to correct them.
- kendawg, on 12/28/2007, -0/+10He didn't say he actually *pays attention* to the red underlined words ;)
No amount of red underlining will help some people. - shredswithpiks, on 12/28/2007, -0/+10hey you mispel... oh. I get it. that's witty.
- dnyl, on 12/28/2007, -0/+9the whole point of this is that it is browser/OS independent. i am on OS X, so i can sympathize with those people who say "whatever, i have this already". but think of those who don't have a system or browser wide spell check.
it is a good idea and looks like it was implemented pretty well. good work. - darkened, on 12/28/2007, -3/+12After initially assuming this was a browser add on and came to make a satirical comment about it, I'm glad i looked and saw this is actually a PHP module for your website that will add spell checking to it. Very nicely done on the client side, have no idea if it will beat up your server side though.
- legendxx, on 12/28/2007, -4/+10how about checking for idiots, and if found, deleting their account from digg.com
- inactive, on 12/28/2007, -1/+6I know tons of idiots on the internet who can really use this.
- Stirk, on 12/28/2007, -1/+5Actually, the spell checker is a system-wide feature in OS X. If you haven't noticed, you get the red underlined words in any text field, Safari or not (assuming you have it enabled). It's very convenient.
- fleischner, on 12/28/2007, -7/+10Built-in to Safari as well.
- aussieNickuss, on 12/29/2007, -0/+3Sometimes Firefox throws back the most unrelated spelling suggestions.
- thebaconmonster, on 12/28/2007, -1/+4The world may not revolve around developers (or AngryAngryBrian and myself) but why should we care about IE users?
Really, the spelling is a "nice" feature... chances are people who use FF and Safari (and any other browser with this built-in) will use it... people on ie can't, and probably wouldn't anyways. It's obvious it gets passed over as a "feature" more often than not (people are in a hurry, do they really care?).
So in the end, screw IE.... - edwartica, on 12/28/2007, -0/+3I like to refer to it as "postmodern spelling." I was an English major too, so I can kind of sort of get away with it. :)
- scott2007, on 12/28/2007, -0/+3Well, developers should care about IE users, as this one has done.
(I use Firefox though and already have this. It's a great feature.) - consoneo, on 12/28/2007, -2/+5Yeah, I was thinking "Oh.. I already have this.. special?"
- NinjaBoy, on 12/28/2007, -2/+5I agree Firefox doesnt catch nearly as many of the words as google does.
- Mardala, on 12/28/2007, -0/+2Like all those people still using IE 6.
/sarcasm.
Its kind of neat, but probably not anything I would put on a web site. It is slow for one. - NJank, on 12/28/2007, -0/+2but what if I use lynx?
- legendxx, on 12/28/2007, -0/+2You still dont get it? This is server side stuff to be used by programmers on websites. You don't install this on your machine you program it into your website and it automatically pops up for people browsing the page.
- legendxx, on 12/28/2007, -2/+4You obviously have no idea how useful this would be to the millions of people who use Internet Explorer. The world doesn't revolve around you.
This is a great release for any web-developer who doesn't want to install some server-side aspell shell executable crap. - mikehill33, on 12/28/2007, -0/+1how will dyslexics find this useful?
- Atomic1fire, on 12/29/2007, -0/+1then you are stuck with your text based choice in browser
if you wanted text based so much you should have stuck with telnet - SillyDigger, on 12/28/2007, -0/+1Vague post, obscure link ...naaah ...not clicking
- legendxx, on 12/28/2007, -1/+2truth hurts
- SillyDigger, on 12/28/2007, -2/+3Its open source and the API doesn't appear to "phone home"... I'll check it out some more but I prefer Firefox.
- nkocic, on 12/28/2007, -0/+1The suggestions are provided by Google's spell checker. Spellify is built on top of it.
- aussieNickuss, on 12/29/2007, -0/+1Slow? Worked very snappy for me.
- legendxx, on 12/28/2007, -1/+2Did you read my comment? If you're not a web-developer or even interested in that kind of thing than this ISNT news to you and you shouldnt be complaining about it. Its in the programming section of Digg.. I dont see what the problem is.
And yes people care of they're searching for something on a site and they misspell what they're searching for. I deal with this everyday and the usability of this could be improved but it has great potential as any web-developer should be well-versed with prototype and scriptaculous. - jriggs420, on 12/28/2007, -0/+1quick test reveals:
spellify : spellicy spliff specify spelling spell | ignore
Oh man, gotta love it - AngryAngryBrian, on 12/28/2007, -0/+1I did not intend to come off in that way. What it comes down to is IE and other browsers should have this built in by now. I care about IE users, some people have a hard time adapting to even the slightest changes when it comes to software, and that is understandable. Still a stand alone executable would have been better as most people who use IE won't know what to do with a bunch of js and php files.
- NJank, on 12/28/2007, -1/+2and the rest of us laugh at you deluded fools.
- nkocic, on 12/28/2007, -1/+2Thanks to everyone for using this and for digging it!! If you plan to integrate it in your site, let me know and I'll list your site on spellify.com
- Atomic1fire, on 12/29/2007, -0/+1it just says a swear and then some random letters and then algorithm
nothing to see there... - umbrae, on 12/29/2007, -0/+1Not clicking is fine. It just showed that "***** algorithm" was being marked as Correct by spellify.
- troyfoley, on 12/28/2007, -0/+1Maybe you spelled "fsdafdsfasd" and "*****" correctly... I wouldn't know, I've never used those words in a sentence.
- mike503, on 12/29/2007, -0/+0It shouldn't be too hard to port to jQuery. If I had a reason to do it right now I would.

This is news for web-developers.. not script kiddies who think by using firefox they are l33t hax0rs - abbathdoom, on 12/28/2007, -6/+5The problem is the Firefox spell checker is pretty lame. As is the one in Open Office. I find that Google is by far the best spell checker for when you absolutely can't work out how to spell a word.
- umbrae, on 12/28/2007, -2/+1Uhh..

Looks like spellify isn't so useful. - peaceninja, on 12/28/2007, -2/+0i can has spellcheck? (too bad it can't check grammar)
- Skod, on 12/28/2007, -4/+2Either use Firefox, or IESpell.
end. - MWeather, on 12/28/2007, -3/+1I'm just going to assume a virus hijacked your account and posted that.
- 89992, on 12/28/2007, -4/+1Learn to Firefox?
- zantos420, on 12/28/2007, -4/+1buried as LAME
- mentor972, on 12/28/2007, -6/+3My Mac spell checks everything, so this doesn't matter to me.
- AngryAngryBrian, on 12/28/2007, -5/+2I can see how this would be useful if you don't have Firefox, but Installing PHP4 libraries and some *.js junk? No thank you, I will stick with Firefox.
