- concept10, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This gentleman writes great essays/articles. I diggit!
- PHPGeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Very cool.
- Kiltak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cool.
- dhughes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0 The assistant prof I had always stressed that good programmers are lazy. Why write code when you can cut and paste it (from another section)? But of course know what it does!
It was his way of saying don't do it the hard way if you can do it correctly, quicker and with less steps. - aiiee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0As someone who has been in the ERP programming field for more than a few years, in both maintenance and new programming, I think this is a great article. I couldn't find a single point I disagreed with, and I found a lot of advice that would go a long way toward establishing you as a good programmer where ever you go.
- leogodin217, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thank you for this article. There are many, many, many... articles written on good programming techniques. I would actually call this "Seven Habits of Highly Effective Professional Programmers". Many people like myself are learning programming and think it's only about learning algorithms and syntax. I am now learning why people go to college for CS. There's more to programming than syntax and algorithms. Great digg.
- dharm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wheres the part about smoking weed and getting high...
all the best programmers i actually know arebig time stoners... LOL - Bluezdood, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Drinking Jolt Cola, downing pop rocks and nerds candy, sitting around getting fat, bragging about how many lines of code they can debug in an hour, blah blah blah...
- islandjoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nice. I like. Diggggggggggg.
- MikeCampo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It has some good points.
- shazeubaa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0dharm -- pot is for dopes. heh.
- rk_cr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Very good article. This article is far better than those that state the blindingly obvious, such as "comment occasionally" or "don't be a dumbass."
- dewey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Fanastic article.
Although, he forgot to mention that too many comments really can hurt a program's readability. If the program isn't largely self-explanatory, you're not doing the best job that you can. - Ravenlock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nicely done, and nicely found. Dugg.
- 808kick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great read!
I've got 1.5 years of Computer Science left. Ego is a big problem when working with people, and some of the most important things I learnt in school were:
a) You WILL be wrong sometimes
b) Most of your time will be spent planning and debugging
c) and when planning aim low and shoot high - alchemista, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Having worked for 5 years in the field, everything this guy says is right on and shows expert experience.
