- G-RaZoR, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Agreed. we need a new acronym. We used to always say stuff like RTFM, or RTFA, now we are going to use:
LTFA (Link the ***** article?) Your thoughts? - dreea, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16this is like DIGG :-D
- ruslanr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13CLIFosakaJAPAN... welcome to by ban list.
btw, what a douche for trying to steal CLIFFosakaJAPAN's identity - ruslanr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Or just go to http://www.pligg.com
- kstamour, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I have been playing around with it since 8.x (here http://photovisuelle.com/pv/ ) , as a digg like site for photography. It says what it does and does what it says.
- datter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The demo of this at pligg.com currently says the following;
-----------------------------------------
Error: '/var/www/demo/settings.php' was not found! Try renaming 'settings.php.default' to 'settings.php'
Please fix the above error(s), install halted!
Error: '/var/www/demo/libs/dbconnect.php' was not found! Try renaming 'dbconnect.php.default' to 'dbconnect.php'
Please fix the above error(s), install halted!

I think I'll just stay here. - Atomic1fire, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7DSBS
dont show blog spam - hausmasta, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Yes, but with a totally different codebase and design. Pligg is based on the Spanish meneame project that made its source code available to the public.
- Yankidank, on 10/12/2007, -2/+610 Pligg Sites Worth Visiting, an article to show off some of the more original Pligg sites.
http://www.digg.com/design/10_Pligg_Sites_Worth_Visiting - Forum124, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4dugg because the upload screenshots in the article show them using WS_FTP95 LE
- tastethevenom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Ah, yes... I used Pligg for FeVote, where we voted on features requests for Digg - http://www.fevote.com/
- DeathfireD, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5ummm Pligg already has that option built in. It gathers stories from RSS feeds that you supply it with and it auto posts them.
- sembetu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3/warning: commercial (I am an honest guy, and this is the first time I have ever pimped anything of my own on here, so be kind)
okay, I guess it is fair to pimp your pligg site in this forum, so before you digg me down check out http://www.hioga.com, my pligg site. it is a retail rating site. you can bragg or bitch about any retailer or purchase. registration is free.
/end of commercial. - Fruvous, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3OK, curse me for a spammer, but I have to plug my site, www.phunni.com, here. It's a site entirely devoted to comedy, with the pligg interface. It DESPERATELY NEEDS MORE USERS.
Thanks, and go ahead and flame me, see if I care. :) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What i don't understand even after read over 100 comments is this:
1- Has the 'voting' mechanism been trademarked by any site? Cos everytime any new site, regardless or content, tries to give people a voting option, it suddenly is called a digg clone. I'm not sure why.
2- In some other article i pointed out that many programmers here can understand that a digg-like site can be made in less than 10 hours, all testing and coding included. Cos if you have the "voting" part and the page style figured out, doing coding in ASP with even an access backend is only a few hours of work.
Hence, how pligg really is offering anything earth-shattering is beyond me. Is it really that special? Or is it because there are very few good programmers here? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@axxs
Sure, i actually have all the functionality already done (without beautification cos any web designer can pretty it up in a short time). But i actually had an asp script done in 3 hours and it works exactly like digg does for all the funtionality (as i said, a web designer will pretty it up later). I really don't understand why people think the programming of digg is sooooo difficult. It's a piece of cake. The voting idea is certainly good, but not very original. Digg is certainly a good and famous site, but it's certainly not because of programming logic or the algorithm. Cos algorithm can be anything you want it to be and can be changed anytime.
If you want, i can launch an asp-based digg-style site, whose scripts i did in a few hours on my laptop, with IIS 6, and even have the IE plugin done. I'm not bragging. I'm only asking as to what exactly is so special with this programming of pligg or digg?
And i still have to get a reasonable response as to why voting is trademarked. - gdfwilliams, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3WTF? From http://demo.pligg.com/faq-en.php:
Advertisements. As consideration for using the Service, you agree and understand that Pligg may display ads and other information adjacent to and related to the content of the news articles. Pligg serves relevant ads using a completely automated process that enables Pligg to effectively target dynamically changing content. - inactive, on 11/10/2007, -0/+2I found this website amazing.. http://www.vindianz.com
- dreea, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@groperdude
i would not know if it is trademarked, i do not think so.
actually the whole Internet is working with paying attention: generates traffic, makes advertising interesting, there is a whole Branch living from it.
-how much does digg and friends earn with advertising on this site? guess i could have some Manolo blahnik shoes every hour :-D - ruslanr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I've tried Pligg. It's pretty cool but it's lacking customization and theme features suck as the one's WordPress or ExpressionEngine has.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2A couple of months ago i created a pretty cool pligg powered news site for gaming, that gives articles a "leet" or "lame" rating. It's quite a bit different than digg and heavily mods the pligg system. the site is called leetdaily, http://www.leetdaily.com I'm also releasing the code for it as open source if anyone wants to take a peek at how i did it.
- JimInNY, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The latest version of Pligg works great. A few more features and it will be perfect.
http://www.zlonk.com/ - 2000, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Does anyone know if something like this is available for ASP.NET/SQL Server?
- oniroi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I have also been using it for a little while now for a travel type digg site. No users but it is still fun to play around with. If you are interested become a user. http://www.earthtrekk.com
- gdfwilliams, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Also looks like their demo content got dumped...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That relates to people who install Pligg on their server. Pligg will never require you to display ads on your site.
- Cryptkeeper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've been using it since v 0.5, I've really seen it rise up in quality since then.
- infimprob, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4No it isn't D-igg it's Pl-igg, of course they're not the same.
Read: Sarcasm - axxs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'd like to see you code something like digg in 10hrs.
Sorry, but any coder knows that no decent interactive user based website can be coded in 10hrs (say 2 days of 5hrs), and stand up to users as well. Go on, your time starts ... now! heck I will give you 15hrs. Make sure you post back to Digg with your expertise :) - wonderis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1very beta yet...
- mhuggins, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Pligg: Bringing you the worst website name, always
- Cputerace, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://www.youpickthenews.com is a good news site that doesnt allow blogspam, its not just another version of pligg either, its hand coded from the bottom up.
- sigginike90, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Lol, did you guys hear? They're shutting down 12chan because it had child pornograhpy on it :/
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Besides they left my site off that list, nobody doesn't enjoy voting on chicks dancing around their bedrooms. Google "kewtr" if that's your bag.
Pligg's nice, but there are a TON of little things not quite completed, so there's a lot of hassle with .htaccess, broken links, etc. Make sure and test test test if you use it. - piratesarefun, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1YAY! now we can all know what it feels like to be Kevin Rose! Awesome!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There are plenty of problems with Pligg, I was surprised. Everything can work, but it's like it's just riddled with little ommissions and typos. Anyway, got it going now with video, kind of like videosift, just all girls instead.
- Cputerace, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1No such thing as LTFA in http://www.youpickthenews.com, it doesnt allow blogspam.
- unlimitedorb, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Now all I have to do is design a news-grabber in AJAX that will effectively utilize the document object model to grab stories from digg in real time and redisplay the stories on my oh so fresh version...or not.
- joeytingles, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1www.newspoo.com is another site made with Pligg....If you can code...there is no lack of customization.
- unixer, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2@G-RaZoR
I second that - ruslanr, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1why not link directly to the article instead of trying to promote a 24+ hour old story?

What is Digg?
