- DaemonDigg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I hope it lives up to the hype.
- therippa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Is their beta signup form isn't web 2.0, then I don't know what is.
- srelnino, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@bmcnitt
Still waiting for my first date :( but, you make a good point, there are not switching costs so I will be searching Krugle as well.
My team requires a code search for internal projects (not open source). Will we be able to use Krugle for our code? We would need access controls. - _jinx_, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@therippa
you mentioning the word "web 2.0" automatically says you wouldn't even know how to use this site, anyways..
This sounds like a good site and like ( ezweave ) said having a centralized spot to search instead of 1000 different forums would be a very nice resource. - ezweave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Something that isn't all junk would be nice. I get tired of scrolling through forums to find how to resolve deployment descriptor problems or perusing DTDs.
- Matteos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Blahh.... it doesn't matter, Verizon will charge them extra and put them out of business anyway.
- dasvoldus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thank you jesusuh!
- therippa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@jinx
I use "Web 2.0" because the digg from a couple days ago regarding the big fonts and whatnot is still fresh in my memory. I did sign up for the beta, as I've been a developer for 12 years now, and hope it is useful.
But, I will agree with SweetsGreen on this one, if you learn to google properly you really don't need another search engine. - Farnsworth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This will probably help newbie programmers with simple scripts & the like. I'm not sure how much help it will give to people with an extensive programming background...
- jmitchell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"You mean I've gotta sign up? Oh, and I don't like the privacy policy... No digg." --michaelphipps
Yep, you gotta sign up if you want to be part of the beta. We actually care about the quality of the system so we want to get real, focused, high-quality feedback before we subject the whole world to the service.
In terms of the privacy policy, can you be more specific about what you don't like? [I tried contacting you directly through your website's contact form but there's some xml no data problems and so it keeps failing.] Thanks. - _jinx_, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@therippa
then my appologies for sounding like a pompous prick, as you can see I hate that word.. and any reference to it.
However, we'll see were this site can take us. Hopefully it will have more feautres then just example code , possibly some how-to tuts.. - jmitchell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"While searching is free, its results are not. Forget that." --a1programmer
Of course the results are free. Otherwise, it would be completely retarded and fail miserably.
To be clear, there can be hits to code (for e.g., various developer programs) that require you to be a member of that developer program to get access to that code. That's nothing different than the existing reality, we're just making it easier to find all of the code that's floating around out there. - rolypolyman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dammit, Digg stripped out my HTML. http://www.krugle.com/ There
- bmcnitt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@diggnewbie
I qualified that I worked on the Krugle site and linked to my blog several posts up. What spam have I posted? (??) Sorry, but I don’t see responding to Digg users or providing a link were people can view a video of the application as spam. John Mitchell is the Chief Architect at Krugle and has also responded to user comments above. - rolypolyman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0A link to the horse's mouth would be good.
- SweetsGreen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1huh...I'll stick with google.
You just have to know how to search and you can find anything - ungamedplayer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"No digg" pfft.. If you dont like it, shut up, report as bad link, but dont add another damn comment to the article.
I feel like rating all these "no digg" comments as spam. - CaughtThinking, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I used koders here and there...

http://search.dailyfreecode.com - bmcnitt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There is an article on the home page of Wired today that talks about Krugle and how features differ from existing search services (i.e. - Koders, Codefetch, etc.).
http://wired.com/news/technology/0,70219-0.html?tw=wn_index_2 - srelnino, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1krugle doesn't allow me to find code fast at all. i have sign up for their beta and wait to be invited. does anyone else think all this hype is premature?
i'd rather use http://www.koders.com today than wait for krugle to let me see how wonderful their clone is. in fact, i use http://www.koders.com all the time, becuase have the plugin in my IDE . everyone in my department uses the plug now. it's killer. i got back from vacation and my whole team was using it.
krugle, shame on you for copying koders. you're late. koders is already on my desktop. and anyone can get the plugins for free. http://www.koders.com/info.aspx?c=tools#IDEs
remember stickiness? - bmcnitt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@therippa
"Is their beta signup form isn't web 2.0, then I don't know what is."
That's what we were going for so I guess I succeeded! (Yes, I designed it.) http://tinyurl.com/8sjgw That said, I give myself at least ten points off for not using AJAX to submit the form. ;)
Stop guessing about functionality and how it compares to other apps – sign-up for the Beta! http://krugle.com/beta/

"krugle, shame on you for copying koders. you're late. koders is already on my desktop."
did you marry the first girl you dated? do you still use alta vista search because it came before google? perhaps you prefer slashdot over digg? (enough sarcasm.)
i can't disparage the koders site; it’s pretty cool, they broke new ground in code search, and i can appreciate that it's working for you right now. that's all good stuff. i also think that code search can be improved and krugle has a pretty cool app. (btw, i disagree with the statement that krugle set out to copy koders. unless you are aware of a whole set of features that i'm not, then it's safe to say that krugle is not a me too site. if it were, would it really generate this much buzz? i highly doubt it.)
i can understand impatience over the beta system but if you want a quality application it has to be tested. (you got in the google gmail beta; you'll get in the krugle beta, i'm sure of it. sign up now or simply wait for the public release.) once you have the krugle and koders apps side-by-side see which you prefer. choose one over the other or use both; it’s all good. - magik, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1There is also http://www.planetsourcecode.com/
- bmcnitt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@srelnino
This I am not sure about. I posed your question to the core development team and they basically grinned back at me. Hmm. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. (Boy, that March 8 launch date couldn't come soon enough! ;) - mildavw, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0There is also: http://www.codefetch.com
- abhibeckert, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Jeezus mate, smaller text!!
- ehaus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I got to try out an alpha version of Krugle. It's definitely better than Koders and Codase, in that the search results are more meaningful. I think of Koders as Altavista for source code and Krugle as Google for source code. I think it will also search the web for technical information as well, but mainly finds source code.
It'll probably help both newbies and experienced programmers, but in different ways. Programmers just starting will want to see example code, so this will help them. Although a lot of example code can be found on the web via Google. I think Krugle will be very helpful to developers exploring open source projects, and determining whether they want to add/use them in a project. Right now, trying to see source code involves downloading/unzipping/viewing, which is a pain. If I can view and decided whether source code is useful before downloading, it's good. If I can easily download a project, it's great. If it'll only build my software for me, then it's a god send. - bmcnitt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0See Krugle in action; video from the DEMO conference.

Stop feeling like it and start doing it, that way I won't have to. ;) - diggnewbie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0@bmcnitt
you post spam. you work for Krugle. your blog confrims that:
I just wanted to say good luck to the crew at Krugle.com during their product launch today at the DEMO Conference in Arizona and the Evans Data Developer Conference in San Francisco! (If you have seen me working around the clock for the past week, carefully guarding my laptop screen from view, Krugle.com is the top-secret site I was working on. Now you know what I was up to.)
