Open Source Dental Software!
open-dent.com — I went to the dentist the other day and I noticed the app running on their computer had the title, "Open Dental". I thought, as I sat in the dental chair. Is he using an open source dental app? Sure enough, he was.

- rsgraves, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0My wife uses Open Dental practice management software in her dental practice. It's licensed under GPL. The main developer, who is also a dentist, sells optional subscription-based support for the product. It's every bit as full-featured as packages costing $15K - $25K.
- haddons, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If open-dent is so open source, how come you have to pay for it?
You need a registration code.......

- majp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the software itself is free. But you can get support for a monthly fee which also includes all the latest updates. We have been using it for over a year now and it is great. It runs stable and has not given us any headaches yet. It's also quite intuitive, fast for staff to learn....but i don't want to sound like I'm getting paid to write this.
