If you mean the guy took this shortcut you are dead wrong. The video clearly shows him copying and pasting many, many lines of HTML to create the image row by row. It was quite impressive, and this shortcut should not take anything away from his creation, in fact it should make you appreciate that work even more.

Although lets face it, I think as abuses of HTML go, this is one of the more horrific (but ingenious) ones I've seen :P -
