-John C. Dvorak - johnwiseman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22I know a few engineers on this project. The expected release date is March 31st. It will launch as 'beta'.

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8eh, 30 Boxes works for me. I'll stick with it.
- vndr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8http://img97.imageshack.us/img97/4013/aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa7we.gif
here you go :P - wyattearp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Interesting ... heading off to http://www.google.com/cl2 yielded a box that says "Sign into Google CL2 with your Google Account" ... still a "invalid page request" after signing in though :-(
- falcoboy7, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Anybody notice the similarities between this and iCal?
- tzmguitarist, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8is there anything google releases that DOESN'T launch as beta??
- ericdfields, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I'm all ready for this. I live in my gMail account, especially now that you can send e-mail from any of your addys through it. Everything in one place, instantly accessible. That's what I need.
- Pests, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I think if you would actually look at the pictures you would see little "XML" and "ICAL" link buttons.
- daFilms, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6That's true, but than again they did email long before Gmail, and there is no one who would place those two on the same level...
plus, who want's to see a flashing ad 'to lower your mortgage' ... hey maybe I can win an iPod - chamblah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Looks great, though I'm using http://www.30boxes.com now and it integrates very well into iCal, I'm also able to share my calender with other folks using 30boxes. Hopefully google's calender will be able to offer the same functions.
- kev26, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Ya, I noticed this new feature too. Very cool. Digg just gets better and better.
- zweben, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Some parts do look quite similar, but that's a good thing- iCal looks great.
- DBrez8, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5WooHoo!
Goodbye Outlook
Hello Justice - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I just hope you can incorporate your contacts from Gmail into it
- ryansmith18, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Well grats, your brain must be 100x more powerful than mine. I'll stick to using tools to help me use my tools. I spell checked this before submitting, fyi.
- norick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4A web calendar without synchronisation to my palm is not useful. I hope they will add this feature because it lacks in all the others calendar (yahoo, 30boxes, ...).
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Looks pretty cool. Maybe when it's released, I can finally get organized :)
- sfouladi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I think their babies are in beta for 1 year after birth. Believe me!
- LazyBoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3looks like its a long ways off but Im looking forward to it just for the fact that it looks to be integrated with gmail.
- n3tfury, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3yes, i'm sure kevin was the driving force behind any design team that was chosen or nixed for this project.
- osbjmg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Interesting comment feature. I would hope to see something like www.30boxes.com but a bit more mainstream... 30boxes is really cool, but the interface feels bulky sometimes.
- silvermask, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It looks like CL2 will have the ability to have multiple calendars. I wonder if there will be a "master view" or a way to select multiple calendars to view.
I could see that being a handy feature - you could separate out your calendars into school, work, personal, whatever and then see them all together. Or maybe you'll be able to "label" events and filter the calendar by labels, which would have pretty much the same effect. - rkalajian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Have they said yet if you'll be able to sync with sunbird, iCal, etc...?
- daFilms, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2you mean like an April 1st joke?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3More of them, eh? This could be a very useful feature.
- bugzer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2no it doesn't, you goof
- multivariate, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Whoa!! Looks like digg is borrowing from Wikipedia a bit here: "Warning: The Conent in this article is under review"
- daFilms, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2it is an intersting name... anyone know what CL2 means? seems like gCal has been taken but I can't imagine anyone saying have you seen CL2? 'what?' ... I mean Google Calendar...
or maybe they simply chose to stay away from g'this' unlike our fellow friend iPod...iTunes...iPhone...
Any thoughts? - liquidedge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If they want to succeed they need to take a page from the playbook that 30boxes.com put out.
It probably looks like iCal just so people can import stuff easily from their iCal compliant calendar. - muppethouse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is not true. Yes, the calendar features yahoo had were a good offering, but they lack the links into iCal and RSS. This interoperability is going to be the key to the success of CL2.
- sfouladi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It is just a private version. It's an alpha, not public beta. You can't signup now.
- thegeekpea, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Looks like the images were taken off. "Sk3 doesn't have any photos tagged with cl2"
- blueangel5383, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2calendar.yahoo.com is pretty decent too... but i do look forward to the google version
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3It's for certain invited people
- metalrock76, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2any mirrors?
- etandrib, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That is more of palm's problem. 30boxes has an API. Someone needs to write a program to sync the icalander standard output to your palm... (sorry I meant this reply for the guy below) I can't delete?!?!
- Aesculapius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hasn't this thing been in "will be released within the next couple weeks" limbo for about 6 months now?
- thegeekpea, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hopefully when Y! Mail Beta Calendar gets turned on it will support subscribing into iCal/Sunbird and RSS feeds
- tgourley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1CL2 will be great, and I'll use it if and only if there is an easy way for me to sync it with the calendar on my Treo 650. Heck, if its does do a standard XML or iCal import/export then writing a program to do that would be an easy task.
- spacebar14, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I like it too. But I'd use gcal cuz it'll be integrated with Gmail -- :)
Hopefully you can import from 30boxes :D - muppethouse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't believe 30 boxes allows you to subscribe to iCal calendars or publish as a public iCalendar file. For those who use OS X with iCal or Linux with Evolution or Windows with Sunbird, this is really the killer feature. Add to that the ability to receive server-side SMS alarms for messages and now you have a powerful solution that will send you reminders of your events without needing to rely on a dodgy synchronization tool.
- bugzer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I agree...30boxes is good, but if cl2 comes out and it's just as good as 30boxes; I'll use cl2 because it appears to be closely tied to gmail.
- jswaby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That looks really good. Considering I hated outlook before, and my only calender program was on my cell phone, this will be a welcome addition to my round daily used apps.
- DarthTurducken, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Anyone use HipCal or Spongecell? I know Spongecell does iCal
- bugzer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1actually, that'd be great. it's not that I don't trust you - i just don't believe you. =)
- dongiaconia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think you'd be suprised how many people listen to Diggnation in the field of software engineering.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Exactly why I think it will be useful. Something like the Calendar in Outlook when used with Exchange.
- chesterjosiah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+130boxes works, but I can almost guarantee Google Calendar will be better. Much better I bet.
