- wonderbud, on 10/12/2007, -3/+27Whats wrong with phpMyAdmin?
- pygmalion, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21@ontain
IMO, you shouldn't be managing MySQL if you don't know 3 of the 5 letters of its name.
Stay away from my DBs :) - rhinez0r, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17Also don't forget phpmyadmin: http://www.phpmyadmin.net/home_page/index.php
How did this article make front page? - ericnmu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Dear Masna,
Fix what?
Love,
Eric - Beaver6813, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Well im guessing by 'makers' your saying basically yourself and maybe a few other people. When you say open-source it can't just be 'open-source' it has to have some kind of license, a General Public License or an MIT license for example... so the developing community know what they can and can't do with it.
- hello2usir, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10MySQL Administrator: http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/administrator/1.1.html
MySQL Query Browser: http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/query-browser/1.1.html
Both are free and open source, and without ads. - cdlavalle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8"Because, we planned to sell this, but decided to make it freeware, so there will be a few problems." That makes this post more than a little misleading. Freeware is not open source. If you are going to make it open source, distribute it under a real open source license. Who wants to put their precious database in the care of adware? No one...absolutely no one.
- esteban, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9@ontain you are talking rubbish, most stuff in phpMyAdmin can be done without writing a single line of SQL, I don't know any SQL and I use it all the time. Of course, if you do know some SQL you can do a lot more with it.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+16I prefer MySQL Front, thank you very much. This looks like a clone of it, anyway.
- concertina, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7What is the license? They don't list it anywhere on their website, and it's not included as a seperate file or anywhere in the source as far as I can see ... no digg until they do so.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7A nice start, but it's WAY lacking in features...especially for export and import. I'll still be using phpMyAdmin, thank you very much.
- Langford, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8It's just another option. Nobody is forcing it on anyone.
- alanmarchman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7phpMyAdmin rocks the face! I can't see myself switching to something else.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8The license is your approval of installing ADWARE!!!!!
zomg bury/spam/delete. - nochnoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Tried to install, got lots of error messages on the page, removed.
- troydoogle7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6For shame.... you SQL snobs! :)
One of the great beauties phpmyadmin is the fact that you don't need to know sql. Most of the sql queries can be built using a gui. The fact that most people find a it quicker to use sql queries doesn't take away its utility especially for newbies.
I think that linux should learn a thing or two about removing need for command lines and letting newbies do thing via gui just like mysql does. - fastball1945, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Hey guys...I am the owner of this script. I am sorry for all the confusion. Please remember this is the first release of the script and there will be a few problems. If you can work with us to solve the problems and make the script better everyone can be happy.
Please visit the site and report any bugs you may see.
Thanks for your patience!
Jeff Broderick - gorkish, on 10/12/2007, -7/+11phpmyadmin FTW!
http://demo.mysqlquickadmin.com/error.php <-- Access denied for user: 'apache@localhost' (Using password: NO)?
Pretty hard to trust database administration software from a company who can't manage a database. But hey I guess since the screenshots look like Digg it gets the greenlight... Buried. - Masna, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5You have to use the login info posted above to test the demo. I believe it's "user" and "mqademo."
- jabberwonk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I'm a huge fan of Navicat also, though it's not free by any means. Our appliations are not developed using php, so while I've used phpMyAdmin, that won't work for us. What sold us on Navicat was it's strength of importing data from a variety of sources in a variety of formats (cvs, fix width text, xls, mdb etc.).
- flamadiddle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"Pretty hard to trust database administration software from a company who can't manage a database"
That would be the digg affect that brought them down, genius. - RetroRufio, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I agree, but honestly as a DBA, I highly suggest anyone who wants to really learn to use MySQL efficiently learn the MySQL command line. It's really a breeze, and far more versatile than any GUI interface.
P.S. Thanks to the guys at phpMyAdmin, it really is a great GUI for starters. - sargant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I get a message telling me that my own local database is a demo. And the source appears to be trying to load ads. Suspicious...
- festivalman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Best thing about phpmyadmin is that it shows what sql query they used to give you the result, and even the php code to do it if you request it. I learned a TON by watching these examples.

It would appear that MySWQL Front was renamed to SQL Front (www.sqlfront.com)
Also, due to whatever legal hassles and internal disputes, the project has been abandoned...
From sqlfront.com:
"Unfortunately the old Team is not longer interested to support this program further more.
Because of this we're looking for a company who want to buy all rights (with all sources) of SQLFront. Here are the main facts:
* Development language: Borland Delphi 7.0
* 65.000 lines of source code
* Used Toolboxes for some hundreds €
* Used Toolboxes under free licences
Ugh, it uses Borland? No wonder the developers want to get rid of it... What a ***** program. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Lol buried because I mentioned MySQL Front.. must be their dev team doing it.
http://www.sqlfront.com/ - raccettura, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Out of curiousity, can anyone explain the distinct advantages over this compared to phpMyAdmin? Does this have anything it doesn't?
- thafooz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I didn't have any luck getting it to connect to my DB... a lot of php notices too. It's too bad, I've been looking for decent alternatives to the query browser and phpmyadmin (the former isn't especially stable or feature-rich on OSX, and the later does a pretty poor job with frames).
- Masna, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8Dear Everyone,
I see what the problem is. I'm going to fix this ASAP, and re-release the download.
Apologies for the confusion, Masna - cremate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3phpMyAdmin lets you execute queries on there. so its not half bad.
Same with SQL server (through query analyzer), but it has so much abstraction of a real database its crazy (and awkward, but good for those that dont really know SQL) - rhinez0r, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6You are joking right? phpmyadmin sports way more features then this garbage and it works when you install it. Rad.
- RetroRufio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Dude, MySQL command line > phpMyAdmin > NaviCat
- mutant, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6this is crap in a can -- why do people digg this *****.
- sargant, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I have no idea why you're being buried.
"But hey I guess since the screenshots look like Digg it gets the greenlight" is exactly right. People are digging this without even testing. It basically doesn't work. - cremate, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5indeed, plus we need to know exactly why you are accessing adservers.
- rYno, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3http://www.turboajax.com/turbodbadmin/
I'd check this out - been using this for some time and it's great and solid - caldroun, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Looks interesting...I have been a user of phpMyAdmin for a long time...I am willing to give it a shot.
- fastball1945, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I agree. I updated the download with the GNU License file included.
- doubleforte, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I use phpMyAdmin and this new thing seems to be pretty much the same, but with less functions. However, it *looks* better...not great, but better. phpMyAdmin is UGLY! (even using themes other than the default....massive ugly-stick beating). I can look past that though, cuz database management doesn't need to be pretty-looking, but it wouldn't hurt to be pretty-looking.
- hello2usir, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8You should probably consider a new line of work.
- jessejoedotcom, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I gotta say, it's very fast and very clean looking. Well done!
- armbar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2So that we and others can rag on how crappy it is in the comments.
- RabidFox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2No kidding, that would make phpMyAdmin amazing. Its only real fault is that it isn't pretty and needs tons of page reloads.
- Masna, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2No... We never actually gave it a chance to sell. We just decided to make it open source.
- mozrat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@mansa
"I am one of the makers. Please, don't be worried (not really sure why you are). It's open source freeware, meaning modifications and whatsoever you please are perfectly fine."
Mansa - If it's Free Software please call it Free Software. The word freeware has other connotations - which in my mind aren't very positive. If it is Free Software then bravo - good luck with it. - Masna, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3"No Digg from me I'm afraid. There is no mention of which licence the code is released under and the submitter calls it "freeware" in the article title.
Open Source does not equal Free Software!"
I am one of the makers. Please, don't be worried (not really sure why you are). It's open source freeware, meaning modifications and whatsoever you please are perfectly fine. - drewjoh, on 10/31/2007, -0/+1I see, "open source" it, and then when people complain, you turn on them...
I don't see myself ever downloading this if this is what the people developing it are like... - mozrat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3No Digg from me I'm afraid. There is no mention of which licence the code is released under and the submitter calls it "freeware" in the article title.
Open Source does not equal Free Software! - Masna, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2There are a few MySQL database management tools that run on AJAX. They're terribly slow, which is why AJAX is definitely not a possibility. It's just not fast enough.
- caldroun, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6I think that it is DISGUSTING with the comments slamming this as "Crap", "Garbage", or whatever. These guys are giving you something for FREE! Use it or don't. I am happy with phpMyAdmin, however I am not going to slap them in the face.
Jeez...Ingrates. -
