- blapierre, on 10/12/2007, -6/+34Yeah, that's because this is only looking at IPv6. Most of the Internet is using IPv4. Inaccurate title.
- eplawless, on 10/12/2007, -0/+25I sincerely hope english is not your first language

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Every toaster, traffic light, and bar of soap in the world can now have it's own IPv6 IP address.
- Catchpen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6This is hardly news. Al Gore sketched this out on a dinner napkin
- GhostCrab, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6If you really want to know what the difference between IPv4 and IPv6 are, check out episodes 25 and 26 of the Security Now! podcast, it goes into heavy detail.
http://www.twit.tv/sn25 - djpearman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+61. Neither the Chinese nor the Japanese currently 'multiply like rabbits', they both already have very large populations that are increasing at an average rate. As far as I know, it is India that has the fastest increasing population (in terms of absolute numbers), so you've pointed your finger at the wrong countries there.
2. Population increase has absolutely nothing to do with the introduction of ipv6, so you're barking up the wrong tree as well. ipv6 is intended to enable us to assign areas on our planet large numbers of IP addresses, hopefully more than we will ever need, so we will never have to upgrade again.
3. What has your comment got to do with a picture depicting the current network layout of ipv6? - vertinox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6@"Yeah, that's because this is only looking at IPv6. Most of the Internet is using IPv4. Inaccurate title."
You mean most of the internet in US, UK, and Canada.
China, Eastern Europe, Korea, and Japan are adopting IPv6 faster than anyone... Of course we don't notice it because none of us can read Chinese, Polish, Russian, or Japanese or live in Asia or Eastern Europe. The main reason for this is because they don't own many IPv4 blocks but since IPv6 is wide open they are jumping all over that.
Just because its not being adopted here means its not being used elsewhere. We might get a rude awakening if China ever outpaces us technology wise in 10 years... - richardiscool, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Wow, the Severn Estuary uses a lot of data according to that visualisation...
- ModernTenshi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Well, now we have a convenient map for when the tubes get clogged.
- Catchpen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Obviously you never tried an etch-a-sketch. Ever tried drawing a circle with that thing?
- LeetPCUser, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I have seen this numerous times and it never stops blowing my mind! Great post.

- blackthorn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2It surely looks like Mario's world. Pipes everywhere.
- Wisgary, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The US sucks because you didn't RTFA.
"While the majority of ISPs with the highest outdegrees in IPv4 space are all located in the U.S., the company with the richest observed IPv6 peering is NTT/Verio headquartered in Japan, with 141 peers."
The first pic, which the only one you probably looked at, only checks IPv6 space. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3@dipearman: actually Japan has a waning population (of ethnic Japanese) because they're having less kids than ever (Sort of like Europeans too) The population of Japan may be growing, but that is due to Chinese (and other) immigrants. Some legal, some illegal
- SuperCheese, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Neat.

http://www.cedarvalleycorp.com/images/equipment/dumptruck.jpg - eplawless, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3actually I went to a lecture about something called PlanetLab by the head of princeton computer science earlier today. some crazy new academic network architecture for experiments, supposedly much much faster operation; much of the detail was beyond me at this point. the architecture was designed so that they were able to easily collect statistics on usage, triangulate path failure quickly etc. and there were some neat visualizations much like the one posted. it's not nearly the same scale, keeping in mind this is just educational facilities for now:

Marked as Inaccurate because it's based on 18 month old data. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -15/+9http://news.com.com/1606-2_3-6109900.html?part=rss&tag=6109900&subj=news
thats how the internet looks - mhearne, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1I don't like IPv6 because it's too hard to figure out how to read the addresses. Otherwise, I guess I don't know the difference. What I mean is, we are still using the same wire as we were with the other protocol. So what is the advantage?
Is it faster, or cleaner or what. From what I've heard, they just need more addresses. Well, here's an idea; lets get rid of all the *****, one-time addresses, and maybe they won't run out of room.
m - fibber, on 10/12/2007, -11/+4He's obviously a Chinese or a Jap! KILL HIM!!!
Oh *****... I'm a Jap... KILL ME!!!!!!!!!! - Dundasbro, on 10/12/2007, -10/+3@Moonwell
