- v3xt0r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What a horribly programmed example!
There is no need to use PHP for this, Copying the file over to the server via PHP, then parsing it via javascript, that's good way to cripple your server! *submit*submit*submit*
Simply using AJAX properly, one could Parse RSS using 100% Client-Side JavaScript, no need to ding your server.
This is yet another example of how AJAX is being used for the sake of being used, without being used properly. - mistermachine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"What is happening? Why is this on the front page?"
Becuase a whole bunch of people have clicked on the Digg button, you *****. I haven't, but others have. What's the ***** mystery?
It's funny that you idiots hang here complaining about "buzz words" when yr using Digg. No one really gives a ***** if you heard about AJAX a year ago, do they?
"Earn some badges first, n00b."
i guess you're the one handing them out? b00b. - Nearoschyth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1cviebrock: Actually, it does. Try typing in "http://digg.com/rss/index.xml". Wow, the Digg feed comes up! PEBKAC.
The way I see it, this definetely isn't useless. If your website has an established userbase, then you want them to stay at your website. Letting them check up on other news on other websites through you will keep them at your website. And adding AJAX to the mix allows you to plant it into your site and not force the user to reload every single byte of the page.
It is a good thing to have for anyone that runs a website, get over the AJAX. - LucasOman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Contrary to popular belief, calling someone a "n00b" (the zeros are an extra bonus!) does not automatically lend credibility to you or your post. Typically, a point to your post is still necessary to make reading it worth my time.
- SpookyET, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wrote it myself a few months ago.
- SubZ3r0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0im always one to complain bout ajax crap but cause its using php which I use alot I guess I could be more optimistic :)
+digg - WikiTerra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ajax needs its own section
- SpookyET, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I did only the JavaScript part on my site.
- alexp2ad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why bother using AJAX? What does the user gain from not having the browser refreshed here exactly?
Just means that people will click back and then realise it hasn't worked.
Has someone set up a script that automatically Diggs stories containing the string "AJAX" or something???
I (and many others I'm sure) have made perfectly good RSS Aggregators without using AJAX, eg: http://feedinator.no-ip.com/ - mwalters, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why use Ajax for this purpose ... hmm .... because you can make a aggregator that feels like a desktop application? Sorry, crapping on the story just because it uses the word AJAX is sort of pathetic.
However, since there is no shortage of new aggregators popping up, and several of them using ajax ... can't say I see why this story is all that special. - menace303, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0groundbreaking
- cviebrock, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The example he set up at http://www.krishadlock.com/clients/informit/AJAX_RSS/ doesn't even work.
No digg. - rEvolution27, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What!??!?! you can make an aggregator with soap? Holy *****!
- alexp2ad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Why use Ajax for this purpose ... hmm .... because you can make a aggregator that feels like a desktop application? Sorry, crapping on the story just because it uses the word AJAX is sort of pathetic."
I wasn't crapping on the story because it's about AJAX, I'm saying why do this in AJAX. Second of all, why would anyone want a slow page that feels a bit like a desktop application? IMHO if I wanted a desktop application, I'd use one. - Jack9, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0jack9.org 2001 (see internet archive) was made with wget, php, and a whole lotta hand-coded parsing. RSS is for lazy ppl.
- LucasOman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1If they don't stop talking about this old news, I'm going to start scrubbing my toilet and sink with javascript.
- DewayneSmith, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0AJAX...oh my, another buzz-word.
- jkearney, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0who gives a *****?
- MattPF, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0And why are they talking like this is brand new techology? "Imagine !!!!"
- aHellerax, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0What is happening? Why is this on the front page?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Ajax again.. sigh.
- exoendo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0oh my god, look at all the pathetic (0) N00bs whine. n(0)(0)bs.
- exoendo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0"Typically, a point to your post is still necessary to make reading it worth my time."
I just think it's funny when n(0)(0)bs like you show up and tell everyone else (that have been here for a year+) just what it is that digg is all about. You're a n00b. Earn some badges first, n00b.

What is Digg?
