- Code_Poet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've tried it on my XP machine and it works out great. You have to alter the index.php file to move the text down a little or the top seems to get cut off, but other than that it works straight off the page.
You also have to be able to run the php scripts. I have my own webserver that runs the scripts so the batch file pulls the html files from that server. Episode 3 says that having Apache running with PHP will also work. - mikwit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think this is in episode 3. The hak.5 guys are great, I wish they made more then one episode a month.
- trvr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i got it working, but the one thing I want is a comic strip on there. I found a dilbert rss feed, but I can't figure it out!
- femmebot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Meh. The Mike Frumin, ReBlog developer, has already done this. Check http://reblog.org to download the app (open source) and to check examples of sites whose content, at times, runs entirely off re-fed feeds.
- durden2.0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well thats good news. I don't know if I will use this much, but it is a great idea. I don't see it replacing my morning digging, but kudos the script writers for their time and effort.
- durden2.0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Has anyone given the newspaper script stuff out yet? I plan on trying it this weekend, but just was looking to get some first impressions.
- tripm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is great, except that you could just read all these articles in about the time it takes to assemble and print this out... AND save a few trees in the meantime...
- Brak710101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0^thats more than Rev3! lol
I love all tech shows though. keep em' coming! - aardwolf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Gothicgeek,
Thanks, we're putting a lot of time into the show and if you watch from episode 1 to 3.5 you can see the improvements.
Revision3 are doing a great job with Diggnation and I'm sure it wont be much longer before we see more frequent Systm releases, and hopefully a new episode of The Broken too.
Respect.

Hak.5 - danhuard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0respek! haha
- dbr_onix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Tried it out, worked quite nicely, but I had to (Well, it worked as it came, but to change the feeds it didn't work very well, so I ended up fiddling a lot)
But, a really cool idea
"I think this is in episode 3. The hak.5 guys are great, I wish they made more then one episode a month."
Yep, and an RSS-reader alarm clock (It'll be on the forum too)
And they made an episode 3.5 a few days ago, which was about virtual machines, and how to get a BSOD-on-demand :P
- Ben - jesusphreak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Are there any live examples on the web of this? It sounds interesting.
- gothicgeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hak.5 is really a great show, they really are doing some great stuff. It would be great if we could get the is amount of content from Revision 3, not counting Diggnation. The stuff the they have done on Hak.5 is way more hardcore than Systm, I would really expect more from Kevin, and his crew, since this is his job now.
- Idium, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0very cool, the hak.5 chat has moved to #hak5 on irc.techphile.ca
- SpiTFire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the guys at hak5 are really good guys they have a great show and we hang out all the time on irc.techphile.ca #hak5 or #techphile i think this rss newspaper is one of many good things to come.
- gothicgeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Darren,
Thanks for the comment, I totally respect what both Hak.5 and Revision 3 are doing. I just think at this point Hak.5 is doing a better job at producing better content on a more set schedule.
Keep up the good work. - NiX0n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0that's cool and all, but I can do the same thing with my personalized google page(http://www.google.com/ig). As in, a page I already visit frequently.
- sfacets, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You know - this could have commercial potential - surprised some big corporation hasn't sunk it's teeth in yet...
- filemorf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I am waiting on the edge of my seat for the next hak5 myself and planning on using the script .
Thanks Hak.5 - F00b4r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nice. Looks like it could be ported with a bit of work and some shell scripting.
- maudib, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0sounds like a good idea but its all a bit too musch hassle, couldnt they just create one program that will do this for you ?
- BxBoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's kind of like The Broken..
- kimholland, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is awesome. Hak.5 just keeps getting better. I can't wait to see what's next.
- ownthebox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The example is supposed to look like a Newspaper. WTF? It looks like a really bad copy of Google reader. Now if someone actually made one that built headlines and stories and photos with captions, now THAT would be something.
Who is digging this?

Sorry it didn't meet your expectations, you shouldn't take everything you read _literally_. This is suppose to be printed as something you read in the morning. If _you_ really want it to look like a boring broadsheet black and white newspaper, feel free to learn HTML/CSS and redo the layout.
Other than that, this is a great show which has the potential to go far. Their monthly release gives them time to fill a show with awesome segments. Love your work guys, looking forward to episode 4 and more crazy chats on IRC (irc.techphile.ca #hak5) - mtchandler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Is there anyway to add in my outlook calendar and task to this???
- fazed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i think the broken is on a one per year release schedule and fts crew never left defcon (they can't handle their budweiser beer flavored water evidentally). plus, systm focuses on one subject, which wouldn't be so bad, but (so far), the subjects bore me, so hak.5 really doesn't have much competition right now.
- Idium, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0correct, why do ppl see good code and then decide to moan bout it, ppl who dont like the code should learn to code and then change it yourself
- LoneSniper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hak5 is the best IPTV show at the moment because they release episodes on a regular basis. Systm is all hype with little content to show for all of Kevin's trumpet blowing. I think the Rev3 kids spend too much time trying to make a super glossy perfect show. They should relax a bit, not be too corportate and stick to a schedule. Viewers want a schedule, some date to look forward to. NBC has a schedule, Hak5 has a schedule, why can't Rev3?
On the last Diggnation Kevin sounded very dismissive and kinda rude when Alex was talking about Hak5's Diggnation spoof and content. Anyone else hear it that way? - skipjacker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The example is supposed to look like a Newspaper. WTF? It looks like a really bad copy of Google reader. - Double-Z, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Cool, thanks!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Yeah, Hak5 is a great show. I will be watching and interacting more!
- kyle133, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Have a look at this...
