Unless you have a firewall or corporate policies in place OR trying to create a distributable application.
Besides I don't need 50 damn SNMP modules from CPAN. I just need one that works... CPAN is a dumping ground for half assed unmaintainable code... - okly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1u mean the web framework ruby on rails, python has a web framework like rails too....django
- b7j0c, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1after a decade of perl i tried out ruby but frankly didn't see any major benefits. while there are some syntactic elements like blocks that are useful, i didn't see any huge productivity gains. regardless of perl's warts, CPAN continues to trump all equivalent systems in other languages. literally there is a module for anything.
- ebunt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Here is a quiz site that is generally for python, but can be extended to other languages:

i have researched the gates of parnassus etc for python, and rubygems, neither are even 10% of CPAN. - zosoo7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Ruby is another great implicitly typed language on the front. Other than the availability of tools that Python has, I'll stick with the cleanliness of Ruby over Python. No doubt that Python is a great toy for a good hacker.
- gunder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I like sites like this. I've never tried ruby though. I'm teaching myself java and I'm always looking for ideas for simple programs. Even though this isn't java specific, I have tons of ideas now. Thanks.
- veracon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0While I'm not particularly fond of Ruby, I like this concept and would too like to see a Python 'version'. I'm digging this because of the concept. :)
- spadin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is for Ruby, which is a programming language. I think some of you might be confusing it with Rails (aka Ruby on Rails.) Rails is the framework that helps makes super-cool websites, Ruby is what the framework is built on.
- usidoesit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nothing is written in Ruby. Where is Ruby's "Mailman"?
- anirudhvr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0very old. no digg
- vaylor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Does anyone know of any other "quiz" sites aside from the Ruby and Perl ones? I think it would be great to have quiz lists for Python, CSS/JScript/DOM, and PHP.

CPAN's great, if you want to sit through a few accumulative hours of dependency installation and feel like you're getting somewhere. On the other hand, Python comes with most of the best equivalent parts in CPAN, out of the box. But, I'm not trying to fan language war flames, really. I'm just snarky. :) All the current generation of languages suck and rock in their own ways. - Oakes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sorry, yes I meant rails.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Chuck Norris knows Ruby. He doesn't need to do exercises.
- druu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Ruby is great! +
- Oakes, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I tried learning python but ruby won me over with its AJAX integration. I want to make web apps. Thanks for the link!
- spadin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Ruby is not a gem. Rails is a gem.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1No. Ruby is a gem. It's not anythign else. Quit spamming.
- strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Don't bother. Ruby is boring.
- okly, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1try python
