- TheIronBadger, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18And wouldn't that make you embarrased when you say "click on the thumb of the hot naked one"?
- LucasVB, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16Opera has had voice command support for a while, actually. You just need to enable it and Opera will start a 10 MB download with the extra files. After that you just restart Opera and enable voice support. Tune in your mic and have fun!
You can configure the activation words and create any commands you want. You could make Opera go to digg by saying "Darling, digg". It's pretty fun.
The voice support also enables voice-synthesis, so you can make Opera read stuff for you. - JohnM5, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8If you are making extensions, this will help:

Otherwise, nice tutorial. Thanks! - crawfishsoul, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4In fact, somebody already did:
Intall Firefox: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/
Install Greasemonkey: http://greasemonkey.mozdev.org/
Install Block a Digg Article script: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/2206 - fatdog789, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5You could use the following for voice commands:
Opera
Dragon Naturally Speaking
IBM ViaVoice
Windows Vista (as long as you're okay with 25% accuracy) - emailingRob, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3anyone got a mirror for this? It looks really interesting but all I get is a 404 not found
- fyre2012, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Yah, i'm getting that 404 too... what a pain in the ass...
- dignation, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Now we can have thousands of Alefoxes!
- 1spinnaker, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Voice command surfing would be sweet, but way to hard to perfect. What about noisy enviroments?
- zacmccormick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1the 10% of the web that uses firefox are the people who are savvy enough and never get phished :P
- cranium, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The digg toolbar slows Firefox down to a crawl.
- RyanSmith345, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great tutorial. I can't wait until I have time to try and create my own FF extension.
- babelfishi, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5Someone in fact did! (Macs only)
http://sourceforge.net/projects/alefox - frietta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yes, the article is at:
https://delta.rietta.com/~frank/firefox
Sorry, The article went down as my username is not present on the new web server. - frietta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I fixed the original URL.
- rayishu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@ fatdog789
hahaha good one, but maybe that guy had a bad accent or something? - guymal, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Nice tutorial.
You can also easily create a Firefox extension using the web interface at http://www.effectivebrand.com without having to know how to code anything. The digg toolbar was created using EffectiveBrand. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Very helpful tutorial.
- LeeUnder, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I get a $)$ when I click the link!
- JohnM5, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4Maybe you could ask at some of the extension developement forums?
http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewforum.php?f=19&sid=5aa3553617a6c69346c143b7e1733217
Theres probably more. I just find info by googling.
Made my first extension around last month :). - Ciebergasm, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2That is amazing. I've been thinking about some extentions I've been wanting, and have started doing research on how firefox extentions are made. Thanks a lot for this, I plan on putting it to good use.
- razei, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4I've gotten an extension done, I just can never package it properly. I always have trouble with that. =/
- i440, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1After reading the article, you should use your newfound skills to develop a new md5sum checker. Pretty please? :D
- dignation, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3let me rephrase that. Now someone can make an alefox that will work on the most common OS used today. I wonder what that is?
Although it is hysterical that it was developed just for Macs when Alex refuses to believe that macs are all that great. - xorian, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Indeed, a very useful tutorial
- Hittin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Thanks dude, I might use it. :)
- hindenburg, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1can i make an extention to leave drunk dial google chat voicemails????????
- fliesdigg, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0sorry - somehow I posted to the wrong dang item.
- fliesdigg, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0Uhmm... the real issue is not what kind of damage is done IF a li-ion battery explodes, but what kind of damage is CURRENTLY HAPPENING while we happily, willingly explode gasoline all day long as we drive around.
- mOdQuArK, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0Dunno - I think that voice recognition is going to have limited appeal as a method of entering commands.
It might be _very_ popular way to enter text when chatting & on MMORPG-type games, where many people will understand and overlook the occasional translation embarrassment (unless it's a really juicy faux pas of course). - Hydroxyl, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2Someone has to make it, I'm serious.
- Bender1012, on 10/12/2007, -15/+9I'm still waiting for MY dream Firefox extension, one that uses voice commands to surf. Seriously, the technology definitely exists to do this. I doubt however that this article will help me make it.
- JohnM5, on 10/12/2007, -11/+3I never noticed that snypa.
Bender, that would be a cool extension. Isnt it in Opera? - maninblac1, on 10/12/2007, -14/+3Does this mean i can learn how to write firefox viruses?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -13/+2Is it possible to create an extension that automatically buries any Firefox related Digg story?
- humanaut, on 10/12/2007, -13/+2Yep, finally me and my romanian pals can write that kickass paypal/ebay login and password stealing plugin we've been dreaming about. Thank you ~frank.
- snypa, on 10/12/2007, -21/+4Sorry to be O.T. but Was digg hacked a few minuites ago?, I went to it, and got this:
