- deadbaby, on 10/27/2007, -5/+116Midi files? Does BLINK work at least?
- toxicityj, on 10/29/2007, -3/+90oh yeah lets go back to the 90's and use tables and strictly html. Who needs CSS?! and hey! let's bring back marquee, blink, #000 backgrounds with #0000FF text! YES! BRILLIANT!.

PEBKAC. - lunchbox170, on 10/22/2007, -5/+68I'm a web designer and by no means do I like IE6 (or 7 for that matter) but if you know how to write proper XHTML and CSS for the most part with very little workarounds you can get IE6 to work just fine.

- Aythun, on 10/24/2007, -5/+50If you're having problems with Gecko, you're doing something wrong. Stop developing web pages for the sake of competent web designers everywhere.
- CraigJ, on 10/29/2007, -4/+49Only someone completely ignorant would design a web page with tables and no CSS.
- Dennern, on 10/22/2007, -5/+47For anyone not familiar with PEBKAC it stands for "Problem Exist Between Keyboard And Chair".
- Lionhart, on 10/24/2007, -13/+53I prefer Firefox.. And I'm a Mac user. I won't use anything that makes "Find" open up in a pop-up box.
- Remmiz, on 10/25/2007, -10/+50Let's not and say we did.
- flareback, on 10/21/2007, -1/+38actually, blink does work in firefox. They left it in as a sort of joke I believe.
- Aythun, on 10/21/2007, -1/+36Have fun with those unmaintainable pages because you've experienced the wonders of CSS-less layouts. Maybe you'll catch up with the 21st century eventually.
- computergod, on 10/22/2007, -5/+39Lemme guess, your using front page?
- kingkilr, on 10/24/2007, -2/+36I just want to say ***** you IE, make your god damned rendering engine XHTML compliant, if I write perfect XML+HTML with valid CSS it damned well better be showing up.

- capitocapito, on 10/22/2007, -2/+32Member148, it really is better to develop for a compliant browser and then fix bugs for IE. It will save you time in the long run.
- Unr3a1, on 10/21/2007, -1/+29Here is an overview of the site in different browsers if you want to see what the guy is talking about
http://browsershots.org/http://freecodesnippet.com ... - sdlvx, on 10/29/2007, -15/+43IE6 has no partial transparent PNG support.
I have a website, and I just flat out don't care about IE users. But then again, it's a nieche site and most of the visitors are using firefox or Opera or something else anyways, so I could care less.
I think people should just stop supporting IE6, so it goes away. There's a lot more you can do without having to worry about it looking alright in IE. - daniels, on 10/21/2007, -2/+30If only Apple had created a non-popup Find bar in Safari 3...
- Soofi, on 10/29/2007, -1/+27This article is getting digged simply for the fact that it's a whinge about IE6, but in terms of content, this article doesn't offer much - since when did it become a revelation that internet explorer acts like a moody %$&*! when it comes web standards?
I spend alot of my time designing for pixel perfect xhtml/css compliant layouts, and I know first hand the problems that arise with IE6, but in general there are workarounds and it is possible to accomplish most reasonable things - it just means alot of troubleshooting and extra work. Firefox is near perfect and tends to work right out of the box, which is why we feel the need to complain when IE screws something up. A few years ago when Firefox was just lurking on the fringe of internet users, practically everyone used and designed for internet explorer and few complained. It just shows that we have taken Firefox for granted. - AtHomeBoy2000, on 10/21/2007, -4/+26the problem is when i design a webpage and displayes perfectly in Firefox, Opera, Safari.... but goes to hell in IE6 or IE7
- nphp20, on 10/21/2007, -1/+22You fail.
- method77, on 10/22/2007, -13/+32Just made a page and it took me twice the time to do it. I made the site in a month and took another month to make the fixes for IE6. I even wrote about it in my blog but I won't spam here. Opera and Firefox are the best browsers out there. End of story.
- ismith, on 10/21/2007, -0/+19What kind of browser doesn't work with a decade old standard?
- BlueSkyfish, on 10/21/2007, -5/+23It's losing popularity now that IE7 is being bundled with every new windows computer. Now that companies are starting to sell Linux computers, Firefox is catching up.
- mithrasinvictus, on 10/24/2007, -2/+20I agree that IE 6 is a crappy browser and should be banned, but this site doesn't even validate:
http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A//freecod ... - oneoverzero, on 10/22/2007, -0/+18Apparantly it works for paragraphs too. I didn't read it but i knew what it said.
- abandonedhero, on 10/22/2007, -1/+19Firefox 3 does. The Acid test isn't necessarily a perfect test of standards either.
- vanadium77, on 10/24/2007, -2/+19Now the newer generation knows just what it was like for us older webheads to deal with Netscape Navigator 4 back in the day. You live with it. You work around it. You can't just say "Oh, let's stop supporting IE6!" because in reality it's delusional to think everyone's going to just jump up and switch browsers, especially in an enterprise environment (from which MANY people browse at work).
You either work hard to become worth your mettle as a designer, or you find another job (or hobby). Stop whining; there are millions of sites that have managed to do it and it just sounds like a temper tantrum. - jakem1, on 10/21/2007, -2/+19Given the tiny combined market share of all Linux distros I doubt that that is responsible for increasing Firefox usage. I think you'll find that it's being used on Windows.
- spaulo, on 10/22/2007, -1/+18I want my MARQUEE tag and I want it now!
- Zachariah, on 10/21/2007, -4/+20Internet Explorer 7 does, too. It's a real shame that IE7 doesn't fully even support the HTML spec. It completely ignores the Q element, which is really annoying. Having the Q element supported since IE4 would have made it so that we could have google quote searches even.
- vonskippy, on 10/23/2007, -6/+22And the winner for the most clueless whiny bitch goes to...."Blogmaniac" for writing something that's been known for years and has a zillion or so workarounds. Good Job "Blogmaniac", we look forward to your next whine about water being wet, sky being blue, etc. etc.
- SteelFrog, on 10/22/2007, -1/+17I'm a full-time graphic and web designer that works with the strictest compliances & specific accessibility standards and I can safely tell you that Internet Explorer causes all sorts of rendering problems for us on a daily basis.
It's not that we can't code and hack our way around it, it's that we shouldn't have to. I've never implemented a Firefox or Opera fix yet, but hundreds of Internet Explorer ones. This is purely CSS and XHTML. No JS or XML. - ha1f, on 10/24/2007, -12/+28this is almost stupider than that idiot who wanted people to boycott gateway...
- mikedoth, on 10/21/2007, -3/+19Agreed. You shouldn't need to do lots of extra work to get a stupid web page up, especially if they work great under browsers that adhere to the standards.
- murf43143, on 10/22/2007, -1/+17I think it's the user that is broke with that logic =(
- TheAcidQueen, on 10/21/2007, -5/+20What, No AoE4? :'(
- tech42er, on 10/21/2007, -4/+19Yeah, because they're using IE6.
- mtekk, on 10/21/2007, -0/+15The same type of person who still uses IE6.
- samdu, on 10/22/2007, -3/+18An expertly designed and built house erected on quicksand isn't the fault of the architect or the builders.
- IllBeBack, on 10/22/2007, -1/+16"grammer" ...? And bad spelling too, apparently.
- ArrakisDune, on 10/21/2007, -1/+16Sorry, but not true.
Its kinda strange, I've spent the best part of this week designing a website for someone based in XHTML and CSS.
IE6 doesn't fully support the CSS feature set, so even though my XHTML code validates tipple A, and the CSS validates, IE6 still says "Screw this, im putting padding there just to piss you off", while _every_ other browser under Windows, Linux and Mac works fine.
This either means I put in IE6 hacks, or tell them to upgrade their browser. Neither of these situations should ever happen.
Now WGA has been dropped on IE7, I can only hope more people start to use it. Its shocking how many still use IE6. IE7 still isn't perfect with rendering, but its _much_ less of a headache than IE6. - jads, on 10/21/2007, -1/+16screw BLINK, does the scrolling status bar message work though?????
