Old story - Monkeyget, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Greasemonkey scripts are really cool. I made a few ones for opera (it's called user javascript on opera but it's essentially the same thing).
Cool things I did with it :
-There was an ill chosen color for a website i visit regulary so i made a script to change the color (and later removed the element completely).
-In an online web based game I played, you had to wait a certain time before you could press a button to perform an action. I made a script that clicked automatically on the button when the timer ran out.
Later i modified the script to not only click on the button but :automatically go to another page and perform an action on that other page.
It gave me an edge compared to the other people who didn't have these convenience.
However this raises the question :
Is it ok for a user to denaturate a webpage in a way that the author doesn't endorse?
(The same problem arises for ad-blocking tools). - digitalunltd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Digg needs to be more like wikipedia, if a story links to a blog instead of the actual content their should be a way to change the link, Also a there should be a way to vote on a better title and/or description!
- backdoc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4The quality of the topics on Digg has diminished to the point that I've nearly quit checking Digg. So much of it is spam or self promotion it's pathetic.
- GreenLantern33, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6This is spam! Come on people, don't allow this ***** to make it to the front page.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2yeah i love the monkey. And most scripts work in opera with little editing.
I guess you could argue that ad blocking is also unethical and there are ways to detect the monkey and prevent changes to your site. But ultimately i think I should be in total control with what comes on my computer. Otherwise you could argue that it is unethical for me to use noscript to block a site with malicious javascript because i am not viewing his webpage as he intended.
But yeah with the monkey you can redesign digg, have full scream youtube, make the readible space on news sites much larger.

- Ragable, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Was just telling my friend earlier that if I see a digg topic link to someone's blog, such as this "article", I'll go out of my way to search digg for the REAL article, digg that and then bury the other story. Now, if Digg could do that for me ... and send the abusive poster straight to digg hell I'd be content.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -11/+1Amazing news, dugg!
