Wakka wakka wakka wakka -- OH GOD NO!! OH GOD OH GOD! - rnelsonee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+38Pac-Man crashes after level 255 (for the same reason Link could never get more than 255 Rupees in Zelda - an 8-bit register is used to store the level number, and 11111111(binary) is 255(decimal)). Anywho, yeah:
http://www.geek.com/techupdate/jul99/pacman.htm
A guy got a perfect score. Not only beating all 255 levels, but he got *every possible point* - he got all the fuit and ate every friggin' ghost when it was possible - for all 255 levels. Crazy. - vikingcoder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+33"On July 3rd 1999 Billy Mitchell scored 3,333,360 reached level 255 at which point the game locks up with the first life"
He overran the allocated memory on the level, not the score. - jordan314, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26Bah, even a chimp can play pacman:

- ArchieAndrews, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18I used to skip school to play Galaga. I'm, not sure why I am saying this but it feels good to confess.
- effexor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15@seumas
That totally made my day. Thanks man :) - mcbesq, on 10/12/2007, -5/+18Can we stop with the "pwnage" crap? Especially with older-than-dirt games that were around before anyone who currently says "pwned" was born.
Seriously, it is metaphysically impossible to pwn at Asteroids, Missile Command, Donkey Kong, Jr., Battlezone, or Centipede - b0wl0fud0n, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Apparently someone was able to "beat pacman". I don't remember where I saw it, but on some tv channel, they dedicated an hour on this guy. he was able to play pacman until the point where it crashed (his score was higher than the allocated memory size).
- BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Or you could just download MAME.
- wadelindsey, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Level 256!
- Phlag, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Shame on you. I'd kill for a genuine arcade machine, regardless of game, and I'd master it, god damnit.
I've always been ***** terrible at Pac-Man. For some reason, I feel compelled to get better at this game (which is older than me) that I haven't even had the chance to play in months. I'll give this guide a shot - chaosgasket, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Ouch, I was grammar schooled!
- XSforMe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7"I used to skip school to play Galaga."
Now, thats what I call a real education! - elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7You can. Click your viewing history, and then, where it would've normally said Dugg! It will instead say 'Undigg'
- SerenityX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Almost had to dig this down for using the word 'pwn'. Might as we have used 2 instead of to.
- innerspirit, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7@dave_colorado
where do you think he plays so much pac-man? i know i do - BooooooooB, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7You can. Feel free.
- infinium, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5practise, practise, practise.
- flash200, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@mcbesq
...ditto for space invaders and that old black & white football game with the track ball.
In Amish communities, you can be shunned for pwning at pong or breakout (okay, just made that up :) - zadadka, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I owned on stand-up Battlezone....straight up.....3.5 hours, uncountable bonus tanks, 9 times tound the clock...The Crown, Playhatch, Reading, UK, 1981....I can still hear Phil Collins' In The Air Tonight and Ultravox' Vienna ringing in my ears while those wedge-tanks chased me.....rawwwwrrr !!!!
- krazytom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4to be trulye leet you need to pwn on all levels, genres and ages. Also, there are different types of ghosts? WTF I just thought they were different colors, they have different strats and traits? That's crazy.
- jimfinn, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9"Practise" raised my eyebrow as well..... but apparently:
-----
Main Entry: 1prac·tice
Variant: or prac·tise /'prak-t&s/
Function: verb
Inflected Forms: prac·ticed or prac·tised; prac·tic·ing or prac·tis·ing
transitive senses: to be professionally engaged in practice intransitive senses
: to pursue a profession actively

Now if only i can buy a pacman classic arcade game and play in my underwear at home instead of being at an arcade....although I guess I can play there in my underwear if i want to get arrested.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6If you read the article you'd know they mention him at the top of it.
- maci01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"All of a sudden shy Inky might try and outwit you like Blinkey and you won't even know what hit you."
You won't even know what hit you. Pacman is intense. - tek1024, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Gross dude. I haven't heard that many g.d.'s since Pulp Fiction ,and if I'm going to yell till I'm hoarse it's going to be about something worthwhile...you know, like someone cutting me off in traffic ^_^
- luma, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Google around for arcade auctions in your area. A pac-man in decent condition can be had for $200-$300 dollars. I've been to a couple of auctions run by these guys with great success: http://www.superauctions.com/
- Crypty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This is awesome. I have a pacman arcade machine in my basement. Never bothered to play it much, but now I'm going to have to give these tips a try.
- r2builder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2For anyone who wants to try out the MAME version, you can download this guy's demo videos of him getting quite far. Just see the site.
- LegendarySock, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3dugg for PWNAGE
- vikingcoder, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/practise
says: Variant of practice
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/practice
says it is both a noun and a verb - mcbesq, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Important Life Lesson: When the evening news picks up on something, the scene is over. In other words, when the Action Team does a segment on leet-speak (or L337, as it is written), it's time to move on.
On another note, what were the ghosts' names officially? There was Inky, Blinky, Pinky and Clyde (at least I thought there were), but I somehow think there might have been a Dinky. *sigh - why can't the PBR kill those brain cells instead of the ones with USEFUL knowledge. - terrya64, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I also had this book , I had like the first 8 level patterns memorized.
- r2builder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Nice flash version of the game, but just so that everyone knows - the strategies in the article will only work on the original Namco version, not this flash one.
Just thought I'd save some people some frustration. - ArekRashan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Many words with ise/ice endings vary in their accepted uses in different English-speaking regions. The verb / noun differentiations in American usage frequently do not exist in the U.K.
- terminalpariah, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3One of my high school teachers taught me how to remember which is which:
Practise is a verb
Practice is a noun (the hint is, it contains a noun, ICE)
It's lame but it keeps me on the straight and narrow. - djrtitan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2From the first guy to beat Pac-Man with a perfect score: "The second highest score achieved was scored by a Canadian, and Mitchell reportedly refused to eat until he beat the Canadians."
- conjuror1972, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2and I thought I was a geek!! :-)
- fearlessfrog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2http://www.geocities.com/mittensdusty/pacman.swf
Blinky makes me cry... - elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Terminal, NO! They are BOTH verbs AND nouns. "Practise" is just the British spelling ( Similar to Amasing, Citisen, Colour, Armour, etc, etc, etc ).
- Langford, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1After 18 they stop turning blue? I never noticed that. I just remember that the banana level repeated over and over once I got past it. I just kinda walked away after a few of those. I should have stuck through a few more bananas levels to see what was on the other side.
- CoolDude330, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2He might as well of been the programmer...
- MadEnvoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Now if I could only travel back in time, I would have ruled at the arcade instead of sucked.
- capran, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The definitive version of Pac-Man, in my mind, is a shareware one for the Amiga I had way back in the early nineties. Perfect Amiga style graphics, great gameplay, and a totally mindblowing hall of fame that'd show up after Game Over, using HAM mode (4096 colors baby! oh yeah) and a haunting theme music. I'd stare at it for many minutes after playing a long game. Ahh those were the days.
If only I could remember the name! 8P - Subcranium, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I had a roommate in college who had patterns. That was way back when the game came out. IIRC, the arcade owner was able to change the machine to make it harder.
- solfood, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1My wife is a Pac-man/Ms. Pac Man freak...we have a cocktail MAME machine in our rumpus room. It's one of the few games that she schools me at.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wonder if the guy that played pac man until the game froze because of his score, ever gets laid?
- n3rrd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The song is Fender Bender by Kid Koala (as you stated) from the Carpal Tunnel Syndrome album.
- Matt-lars, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I would go poor spending all my quarters trying this out at an arcade
