- PlancksCnst, on 01/10/2009, -1/+10Okay, so basically, find the best blogs and read them with an RSS reader.
- dbarefoot, on 01/10/2009, -0/+7I like that 'make a reference search engine' step at the end. So simple, but not something I'd ever done before.
- voodoosteve84, on 01/10/2009, -0/+6That seems like a lot of work---how much better than just googling?
- ideadude, on 01/10/2009, -0/+6I do stuff like this all the time, but I learned a lot from this article. I like how they use the OMPL file they create (great instructions too) and PageRank.com to get the top posts on the subject... And then you can subscribe to that feed to get any "new top posts" that come along. Nice stuff.
- marshallk, on 01/10/2009, -1/+4From the author: the post shows you how to discover top blogs on any topic, how to find and subscribe to just their most popular blog posts, how to search against their archives like a reference book and how to find out where else on the web the top blog authors are doing things (like digg, slideshare, facebook, etc.) so you can see what they do there too.
- marshallk, on 01/10/2009, -0/+3awesome, glad it was helpful.
- lovemorgul, on 01/10/2009, -0/+3Here I want to discuss how cheat sheets can be created for any topic.
- tastethevenom, on 01/10/2009, -1/+2Marshall, great post, you've always been the authority on utilizing feeds/OPML and emerging technologies (read: Twitter). You were the first major blogger to realize the value of Twitter, and your quote 'Twitter is paying my bills' is quite memorable!
Most Digg users still don't understand the real value of Twitter, so here's some advice for those: Play with search.twitter.com (searching for brands, events, news items, things of interest, etc.) and see what people are saying. Some of it's noise, but you won't find as much chatter about everything anywhere else. After that, read some of Marshall's posts about Twitter and start taking advantage of where applicable. When you find a good search query you'd like to keep track, subscribe to the available RSS feed in your feed reader of choice. :) - mediaczar, on 01/11/2009, -0/+1I've tried to automate this process using Yahoo! Pipes http://mediaczar.com/blog/2009/01/automating-marsh ...
- marshallk, on 01/10/2009, -0/+1thanks, that's very kind of you. for seeing the value of Twitter I'd also recommend checking out http://twellow.com - a directory of twitter users categorized by occupation - that's right some of them have jobs! like I was looking at a couple hundred Biologists on twitter today, via Twellow. I like that site.
- Gigabein12, on 01/10/2009, -2/+3How does a user quantify "best" and apply it to blogs? The article provides a systematic method for doing this. He also explains how to filter out the mountain of garbage posts.
(meant to respond to PlancksCnst above) - diggpunklogic, on 01/12/2009, -0/+1Thanks for the great article. I am going to test your methods as soon as I get a change and post my progress here.
- thejokker, on 01/10/2009, -0/+1speaking of using twitter for business, any suggestions for some good posts on actually using twitter to generate income?
- vimmismart, on 01/24/2009, -0/+0hmm speaking about twitter, If you run a blog or anything else which has an RSS feed, you can use TwitterFeed- www.twitterfeed.com
- moshenyi, on 01/10/2009, -1/+0.................
- PoizonFrog, on 01/10/2009, -6/+4I'm more shoot from the hip. Occasionally I get shot in the toes...luckily, all the males in my family are born with extra toes.. The females are born with extra ni...well, let's never mind that...
