- psxman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13You can say "bastard". See? I just did.
- m4dc4p, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This classic tutorial has been updated to use version 2 of the Google Maps API. The b*****ds at Google changed all the function names so your V1 maps no longer work!
- Eclipse19, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I was actually hoping to see APIv2 but with some improvements. The problem I have is that APIv2 uses "progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.AlphaImageLoader(sizingMethod=crop)" instead of sizingMethod=size)"
What this means is that with APIv2 in IE, custom overlays like weather radar or things like that don't actually resize when you zoom. It worked great in v1.
OH..........but the new logging mechanism...........very nice!! - SpacemanSpiff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The problem there is that you need to geocode the address to a lat/lon. I would search for a tutorial that shows you how to query geocoder.us and then pass that to your existing google map.
Here's one: http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-01-2006/jw-0116-google.html - bugninja, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Uhm, the Google documentation makes it even faster, just view the example, view source, copy/paste with your own key. That would be like 1 minute.

Sorry, I meant you can't just start using the new version of the API (and get all the benefits) without rewriting your code. Bastards! (there, I said it) - LoTek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ah... yes.
All the power without any of that pesky learnin' or understandin' hooey ;P - bouche, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I found that the map was different than what is actually on Google Maps. My city of Ottawa's roads weren't named properly, and pinpoints to Lat and Long coordinates were off by about 10 blocks.
Did anyone else compare? - ext237, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Typed in 2 zip codes on both sites, the resulting map wasn't even close. Might need to check that.
- roach, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1When you say ANY web page I'm sure you mean almost any, I cant put script tags in my blogger!
- navinjohnson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://www.econym.demon.co.uk/googlemaps/index.htm has some great examples to copy and paste from.
- popophobia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1well, he means any webpage that you can add script on. No script > no goodies
- onebigword, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I used some code called Pfoogle Maps:
http://www.system7designs.com/codebase
This one also requires php, but it worked like a charm for me. From what I remember it queries geocoder.us on-the-fly, so maps with a bunch of points can take a while to generate. - atheken, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1use GMapsClass http://www.andrewtheken.com/?page=GMapsClass requires PHP, but has some nice geocode functionality built in, you can also add a basic google map using pure PHP in short order.
- kirkio, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I still haven't been able to find a good tutorial that allows you to put Google Maps on pages where you can input addresses instead of Lat/Long markers. Anybody know of any good ones?
- mennis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This is exactly that:
http://mygmaps.com/mygmaps.cgi/
I'd really like be able to do this in python, myself. - ironcamel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1My V1 maps are working fine.
- goroam, on 04/10/2009, -0/+0Hmm, the link seems to be broken. For another way to do this (just as easy), check out http://geo.goro.am It is a tool that helps you quickly and easily place a map on your web page, then geotag images, text, and links on your page so they show up on the map.
- troydoogle7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1just use gmapsez. Its one include file and the rest is copying and pasting from google!
- betseyjohnson, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0yea, that is real easy. Now I see Google maps on a large number of sites.
http://www.betseyjohnsonshoes.us/ - mvdde, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Does anyone know how to highlight parts of the road segments? I am not talking about driving directions.
For example, if I want to highlight where construction is near my house, and I want to trace a line along one side of the road. Is that possible?
I think polylines might work, but I don't want to have to know the lat/long of every turn in the road. I just want to put in the road and the start/stop locations and have Google trace the road for me. - rahman15, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Yes...this is really easy to implement Google map with your website. See Google map in action, this sites integrate Google map with Census data….very nice...
