Granted, Digg's planning is elegant programming with elegant scalability. Paris's planning is a well-paid makeup artist and a better-paid plastic surgeon. Still, I appreciate the parallel.

I don't think it takes too many brains, but I'm frequently surprised myself when I see things Headlines like "Pam & Tommy Back together" followed up with "Pam: Well Tommy's new show is coming out and I guess he needed the publicity"
Thats two (2) articles in just about every newspaper, gossip column & tabloid in the world, and thats even when the publicity is blatant and cynical.

That doesn't mean they are popular and it doesn't guarantee clicks or return visits. A website needs quality content to keep people coming back. Dropping names online doesn't guarantee a fan following.

B. Paris Hilton is not famous because she name drops. She is famaous because she's a dumb, slutty blonde girl with family money. Hollywood respects money, not intelligence or virtue.
C. By extension of B, Paris Hilton has no lesson for web designers. If she had, the lesson would be "just get people to your site, content doesn't matter". Everyone with real skill as a developer knows this isn't true.
D. Paris Hilton is not a platform. She's a gimmick, like the old "punch the monkey" java banners.
