- str3ama, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6For the last time, Digg can't add a cache system because they would run into a whole lot of legal trouble with websites not wanting to be in the cache and losing ad revenue from the cache. Digg is not responsible for whether a site is up or not, that's the host and the website itself.
- speaker219, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3no, it would be the apocalypse if google went down.
- speaker219, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3yes, let's see if we can crash google!
- Sparkster185, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3You shouldn't rely on 3rd parties to maintain your content.
- BitSlash, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Simply changing the page to a static html file is not going to always bail you out. There will be times when there are so many requests on port 80 that the only solution is to route the user's zone file to localhost, just to try and cope with the deluge of GET requests.
- dumuzi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2you hope that your server comes with free reboots
- cheddarbek, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I will LAUGH OUT LOUD if this site goes down.
- rejoined, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Don't use WordPress!
Unless you know how to configure it properly to deal with avalanche of hits. - chugger1992, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1let's see if we can crash this page...
- mojaam, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Might come on as invasion of privacy to some customers though I agree, simply suspending is not cool.
- whatthefu, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Wouldn't it be hilariously ironic if that page went down?
- x788, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1very little (if anything) on the internet is private
- rejoined, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1How does DuggMirror manage to keep out of legal troubles then? They cache pages all the time.
Though lately it has been a hit or miss. - rejoined, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Dude, it's on blogspot! Hosted ny Google! Have you ever seen blogspot pages going down?
- suxmonkey, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Completely agree. Also, on the other sie of the equation: if Digg added a small but available link to the cached version of a page, Diggers wouldn't have to bookmark a site that's been crashed and come back later.
