- sfouladi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12It's easy to install greasemonkey for firefox 2.0rc2.
1. Download Greasemonkey
2. Change XPI extension to ZIP, and unzip it.
3. Open install.rdf with Notepad.
4. Change 2.0b1 to 3.0a1 (It's near the end)
5. Save and Close the file.
6. Zip the extracted files again.
7. Change zip extension to xpi.
8. Drag it into add-ons window.
9. Install Greasemonkey!
Use it at your own risk. - Ratatosk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8yeah it's great. BTW: did you know it's from a guy from the google reader team;)
- ddrirc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I'm hoping google will actually do this soon. This works great for now though. :)
edit: but keep a seperate reader-only page too - evilpig, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Great feature.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Everyone who uses Greasemonkey, Gmail and Google Reader should try this - it is implemented so well.

- TrueSatan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Calm down!
There are three ways I know of (probably more I don't know of too) to get around this:
1) Install either Nightly Tester Tools Extension or Mr Tech Local Install Extension (the latter includes the former) and use that to allow Greasemonkey to run.
2) Alter the .rdf file in the Greasemonkey .xpi...do this by changing the .xpi file extension to .zip and unzipping the archive as normal...find the .rdf file and file the max version string then alter it to allow FF v2 (actually I tend to alter to v3 so as to be able to run nightly trunk builds.) Re-zip the files once done then change the archive .zip file extension to .xpi and use the extension as per normal. You might need to un-install the extension in order to upgrade to the next official release.
3) Load about.config...type "about.config" into the URL bar sans quotes. Scroll down to "extension compatibility check" and right click where it says "true"...select "toggle" then wait while the browser reconfigures (can take a little while if you have a lot of extensions). This will allow any and all extensions to try to run irrespective of maximum or minimum FF version numbers for which they are/were intended.
These measures can allow extensions to run but in no way guarantee that they will run properly...use at your own risk and keep backups handy...hint...FEBE/CLEO (Firefox Extension Backup Extension and Compact Library Extension Organizer.) - joecritch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4You might want to have added a permalink as the story title:

- macewan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is a great idea. Instead of having switch from one browser window or tab to another to use Google apps why not allow us to use the same window? Everyone is comfortable with gmail so it could comfortably be used as the base app. Then Google Reader, Writely, Spreadsheets could be displayed from within gmail.
- mysticMeg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Is there a greasemonkey script available yet to make the calender available also in the same session rather than having to launch a new tab or window.
--mm - ineser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1very useful feature indeed
- furst, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Is there any way to get my e-mail into google reader? So I can at least read it?
- vjani, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is neat!! Hope Gmail includes this feature soon.
- irregardless, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Gmail does supply an RSS feed for you account. I haven't tried it, but I would assume it's not hard to subscribe to that feed in Google Reader.
- Solutus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You can also install the Nightly Tester tools which lets you right click the extension and force it to run. http://users.blueprintit.co.uk/~dave/web/firefox/nightly/
Side note: If you use this with the del.icio.us plugin you must manually add the buttons to the task bar. - ramiro, on 09/11/2008, -0/+1Thanks!
- winstonyw, on 06/07/2008, -0/+0I wrote a script that was inspired by Mihai's orginal script. Current Digg Submission is @ http://www.digg.com/programming/Greasemonkey_Script_Gmail_and_Google_Reader_Integrator
Features of my Gmail + Reader Integrator:
1. Spilt-window view of Gmail and Reader on a single page
2. Links to collapse|expand either Gmail or Reader
3. Integrated Reader uses start-page as specified in Reader's "Settings"
4. Labels selector
5. Key 'v' to open Reader links in a new Window
6. Automatic resize of Gmail and Reader views
