- inactive, on 12/15/2008, -3/+32I never saw anyone say the contrary, that Chrome wasn't an open source project -- I've been on the dev mailing lists, and there is a lot of openness and interaction going on. This is no surprise, CNet is just trying to attract viewers over nothing.
- Moegopher, on 12/16/2008, -3/+27All I know is I want AdBlock.
- inactive, on 12/16/2008, -0/+20I like Pokemon. Chrome has a Pokeball logo so I like it. But I also like Firefox because the logo looks like a legendary pokemon.
- atdigg, on 12/15/2008, -1/+14yay for open source
- appleswitch, on 12/16/2008, -1/+13Way I see it, Paweł is doing a lot of selfless work, and my digg gives him 15 minutes of fame :)
"Chromium work on non-Windows platforms"? I can lend a Digg to anyone working to make that happen. - MasterChi, on 12/16/2008, -1/+12Because its technology....there is always something new coming out and you have to be willing to give that new thing a try before you can make comments like above. Chrome might not be good for you but for others it might be perfect and Firefox and Opera are just overkill. Diversity is the key to society.
- Elranzer, on 12/16/2008, -0/+7Linux fanboys are like Microsoft fanboys, except that Linux fanboys understand computers.
- inactive, on 12/16/2008, -6/+12C'mon Google, Adblock Plus + Adblock Plus Element Hiding Helper = win.
- mrBitch, on 12/16/2008, -1/+6Wow, fascinating. What did you have for breakfast?
- taiwanniggadu, on 12/16/2008, -7/+11obama 08!
- gbhall, on 12/16/2008, -3/+7That much closer to being released on OS X
- mrBitch, on 12/16/2008, -0/+4Agreed, the fact that Paweł's coding is focused on making Chrome work on non-Windows platforms gives this my digg.
- PikeUK, on 12/16/2008, -0/+3Bluescreens are caused by driver, hardware or OS failures, they can't "fix it" (OTOH if there's a common known problem with a common driver they might be able to work around it).
- mitch37, on 12/16/2008, -1/+4And Chrome comes into that where?
- antini, on 12/16/2008, -0/+3not yet, but the extension mechanism is being worked on now.
- lyncho99, on 12/16/2008, -1/+4I just want a delicious bookmark add-on. I want to hear no more about google chrome until this happens. Then I might make the switch from firefox.
- oxymoron69, on 12/16/2008, -0/+3But you know what isn't free?
Advertising.
If you want people to look at your entirely useless and inaccurate blog, then go pay for some ad space somewhere instead of trying to throw up a URL in the middle of a conversation.
You sir are what is completely wrong with the Digg population today.
I hope you get banned for these repeated self-serving acts. - MrChunks, on 12/16/2008, -5/+7***** the RIAA/MPAA!
- mrBitch, on 12/16/2008, -2/+4@ MasterChi, Spot on!
@netneutrality, RE: " Why would anyone actually use Chrome when Firefox & Opera are both so much better?"
Have you even tried using Chrome for a few days? It really does reveal itself to be an excellent platform to run Web Apps on. - inactive, on 12/16/2008, -0/+1Odds are very good it's not directly Chrome's fault. Perhaps Chrome is hitting a bug in an already faulty driver. I would never use Windows as my main OS, but when I have tried Chrome for long periods of time, I've never had that sort of trouble.
- inactive, on 12/16/2008, -0/+1This is good. You can make a project open source, but until it gets the support of a community, it rarely makes use of the true power of F/OSS.
- IamZed, on 12/17/2008, -0/+1Use Iron. It's Chrome with AdBlock, thanks to the wonder of open source..
- clsslc, on 12/16/2008, -0/+1Way to go Paweł Hajdan Jr.!
- Moegopher, on 12/17/2008, -0/+1Thanks man, I'll look into it.
- neFariou5, on 12/22/2008, -0/+1Also, chrome now has greasemonkey support, so use one of the many thorough ad removal scripts
- starfighter01, on 12/17/2008, -0/+1Mac version, please.
- Vektuz, on 12/16/2008, -0/+1Does chrome even support add-ons of any kind, never mind adblock?
- alexlinebrink, on 12/16/2008, -0/+1You mean it's ACTUALLY an OSS community project now? Awesome ---- way to go Google. It's good to see things transfer from "in theory" to "in practice".
- jackojohnsson, on 01/05/2009, -0/+0Chrome really is quite buggy atm, it has great potential and speed imo.
I really like the kind of open source idea.
I have a feeling MS will come up with something better in public versions of Windows7, I just cant see them not fighting back in browser war.
http://johnssonsblog.blogspot.com/ - EarnGoogleCash, on 12/31/2008, -0/+0AWESOME!! now people can start coding their own!
http://www.earncashfromgoogle.com - DefiniteFail, on 12/16/2008, -1/+1I trust Google that they will review all the code that enters this project. A lot of OSS projects are unorganized and accept patchs without reviewing if it's written properly or not, common problem.

Fatblast Extreme - stshank, on 12/18/2008, -0/+0Yeah, perhaps I was a bit glib in writing the opening to that story--certainly Chrome was open-source from its public release. But there's a different degree of openness that comes when a company permits outsiders to participate. Often that's pretty hard to do for cultural and technical reasons, even if the company truly does want it open to others' help. I was just noting that Google had made the leap, or at least taken a major step.
That said, no, I wasn't just trying to attract viewers over nothing. - mitch37, on 12/16/2008, -6/+4Chrome is perfect for old people, imo.
Ill stick to firefox for now however. - MrViklund, on 12/16/2008, -5/+1I don't trust Chrome... This is a PR-trick.
- rville, on 12/16/2008, -7/+2I love how simple and fast chrome is.
Only problem is that it seems to cause a bluescreens time to time with my windows. So its pretty much unusable. After they fix it ill switch it to my primary browser. - Elranzer, on 12/16/2008, -8/+2AdBlock is against Google's agenda. AdSense is Google's main source of revenue.
- netneutrality, on 12/16/2008, -12/+5Why would anyone actually use Chrome when Firefox and Opera are both so much better?
- fxu1989, on 12/16/2008, -12/+5I'm currently on Ubuntu 8.10... seems good so far. Been with it for exactly... 31 hours. CS2 on wine runs a bit slow for me, so I might be thinking of dual-booting with xp only to use photoshop and a bit of gaming every now and then. Everything else is great.
Just wanted to throw that out there. Please proceed to clicking the red button --> - ZogDog, on 12/16/2008, -14/+4Yay for false hope of AdBlock!
- fatas, on 12/16/2008, -16/+1and tells Linux Fanbois to stay the ***** out.
