Damn, I'm gunna be on the street view of my town facing the camera with a "what the ***** is that" expression on my face some day. - kevin_ou, on 10/11/2007, -0/+111Quoting markdr123

I just move to Saint Louis and looking at a top down map is one thing when trying to find a restaurant but this would be great. I could actually see the street I'll be going to and exactly where the restaurant is. Maybe not useful to everyone but I'll make use of it.

Yeah, MS has had this for a long time, like over a year, but it's just stayed in beta:
http://preview.local.live.com/ - djspike, on 10/11/2007, -0/+38to me this is hardly pointless. I have to travel a lot for work and sometimes a view like this makes all the difference in the world when you are trying to figure out where you are going. A map and a set of directions can only tell you so much... I plan on using this extensively while planning my next trip to Miami.

yeah, dood, just keep refreshing, that guy will eventually cross the street. Be patient! - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+39It will ALWAYS just be for major cities. Every time there is some new feature, or some extremely hi resolutioon someone suggests that it will eventually be widespread. It won't be. Lots of areas, including decent sized cities don't have ANY resolution yet, let alone street view.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+35I admit this is cool, but (the now dead) a9 maps had this feature for a while. Hopefully Google will do a better job in keeping theirs up to date and adding cities faster.
- rebrane, on 10/11/2007, -1/+33moet: Actually, they did it with exactly that. Google acquired Tele Atlas recently.
- accelleron, on 10/11/2007, -1/+31It's basically a 360* photo at intervals of 10 ft or so. Here's a screen for everyone who can't access it:

- dbz253, on 10/11/2007, -7/+34local.live.com will be doing this soon methinks. i saw a vehicle with camera's facing all direction going through my neighborhood with the microsoft virtual earth logo's on it a few months ago. was interesting at the time.

- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+24It helps if you're better at spotting landmarks than street signs. Print the directions, but also note the businesses around it so you'll know whether or not your in the general area of your destination.
Also, if you are looking for locations or property, you can actually take a look at the pictures of the surrounding neighborhood before going to see for yourself. When looking for an apartment, a9 saved me lots of time as I was able to simply look up and down the street to see how run down the neighborhood was instead of traveling to the actual building. - indiekiduk, on 10/11/2007, -2/+22I logged into a PC in the USA and now I see a Street View button next to traffic. Didn't work from UK.

- rebrane, on 10/11/2007, -4/+23There's no little guy for those of us who don't see the feature. Digg has more non-US users than you'd think, I guess.
- Talphin, on 10/11/2007, -5/+23Definately cool, but I just discovered maps.live.com a few days ago ,and I am amazed... I can't stop looking at it. I installed the 3D version of it, and I have been having a blast checking out all the big cities.
