- JackDanger, on 04/11/2008, -2/+8It's totally myspace for coders. I recommend everybody install git and try to figure out the basics. It's too awesome not to play around with it.
- jpinnix, on 04/12/2008, -0/+4Beyond the standard features of Git, the Github guys are adding some great capabilities such as comments on commits, integration with other services such as Campfire and Lighthouse, and a cool graphing feature to see a timeline of commits. The guys behind it have made lots of open source contributions to the Ruby and Rails worlds. Github has a lot going for it.
- tomjm5000, on 04/12/2008, -1/+4Well isn't this the nerdiest title in the history of mankind....
- DigitalHobbit, on 04/11/2008, -0/+3We'll be using Git and GitHub for our company. Git by itself seems great, and enables totally different team dynamics than traditional, centralized version control systems like Subversion. GitHub seems highly complementary, with nice collaborative features. Definitely looking forward to this.
- fusen, on 04/12/2008, -2/+5wow, so many comments here look like they are paid for spam.
when are the viagra ads coming? - UGM2099, on 04/12/2008, -0/+2I'm just a dumb designer but I think GitHub is cool because the developers I work with say it's cool. They also tell me the new graphing feature they just released is great if you fork alot.
- ciriarte, on 04/12/2008, -0/+2What I really like about github, is that it reduces somehow the complexity of using git. Successful teamwork is only achieved if everyone knows how to use the tool. I'm having a hard time convincing my teammates of the benefits of a distributed scm, but github is making it so much easier. Much like TortoiseSVN did for svn.
- fkr3, on 04/12/2008, -0/+2I thought everyone on myspace already had a sourceforge account where they created a project for their awesome [site or program] killer idea with the tagline "plz if u no c++ msg me kthx".
- jonathannelson, on 04/11/2008, -0/+2there's always the acquisition option :)
- gsadamb, on 04/12/2008, -1/+3For coders, this site is pretty invaluable.
- defunktion, on 04/12/2008, -0/+2These are all real users. Check out http://github.com/site/testimonials or http://tweetscan.com/index.php?s=github&u=&p=2 -- I know it's hard to believe, but we didn't pay anyone to say anything nice about us. Do a good enough job and you don't have to, I guess :)
- reevolutn, on 04/12/2008, -3/+5THATS A BAD SPAMMER
- BrainCoder, on 04/12/2008, -0/+2Looks nice, but it simply won't replace sf.
- Mislav, on 04/12/2008, -0/+2I've watched GitHub become this big over the matter of just few months, before which it was top-secret.
In the last two months we are witnessing a huge number of large-scale projects moving to git and GitHub. And that was in private beta. Now that the doors are open, who knows what the increase in quantities will be?
It can't replace Sf *right away*, but within a year from now who knows how close it may get? - derekbender, on 04/15/2008, -0/+1cool, I'll have to pass this on the the developers at work. Ive been hearing good things about Git
- bryanl, on 04/12/2008, -0/+1I hope github is successful. I just have my doubts on how scalable it is, and how safe your data is.
People will chime in that git is distributed, so it doesn't matter. That doesn't matter to me. If I push to github, I expect it to be there always (especially if I'm paying for it). I hope you guys have appropriate liability insurance.
Good luck! - jrm02t, on 04/11/2008, -1/+2collaboration nirvana - it makes working with a team of freelancers much less painful
- Hollowpoint, on 04/12/2008, -0/+1Exactly this, so ***** obvious.
- defunktion, on 04/12/2008, -1/+2"im making a game need programmerz"
- lifofifo, on 04/11/2008, -2/+3It's been amazing how practically useful every tiny github feature is!
- jonathannelson, on 04/11/2008, -1/+2dugg. great product for the open-source community.....this is a big step towards 'collaborative coding' in my opinion
- kinghajj, on 04/12/2008, -3/+3I like http://repo.or.cz/ more, because it's much simpler.
- vanpelt, on 04/12/2008, -1/+0Viagra kicks ass
- vanpelt, on 04/12/2008, -1/+0I try :)

digg it please - ch0wda, on 04/11/2008, -2/+0The question is whether it will surplant rubyforge as the place for project hosting.
