- quoll, on 10/11/2007, -2/+30Argh! Why can't these things exist outside the Valley?
- jeffeb3, on 10/11/2007, -2/+19I don't consider 14 year olds developers. Nothing personal, I'm only making the assumption that you aren't working as a developer full/overtime with project responsibilities.
- willemk, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11FTA: " Barbara Harrison, whose 25-year-old live-in son, Tom, is hosting this SHDH, has been in the kitchen cooking since 4 a.m. And she's still at it, checking on the casserole and whipping up Rice Krispie treats."
LOL.. - chris9902, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Isn't this why we invented the Internet?
- importantname, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Just because you enclose it in quotes does not mean it is a single word.
- wackymacs, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7It's a shame the original Homebrew Computer Club is long gone.
- jeffeb3, on 10/11/2007, -3/+9"Most are in their 20s and 30s, although a teenage girl has shown up as well as a man with a full head of gray hair."
Sounds like a sweet party. For the pride of nerds everywhere, please stop calling these things parties. It makes it sound like no one there actually knows what a party is like. - Spankov, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Punk rock mate.
Do it yourself! You want to have a regular gathering of geek-types to discuss cool *****? The go ahead and organise it yourself. - j3one, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5FTA "discussing action scripts"
lol - Gorlof75, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5I just wish there was something like this in Chicago.
- shimamoto, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5I'm in Philadelphia and would love something like this to be here.
Email: philadelphiaweb[a t]gmail.com if you are around here and interested. - pinkpanther07, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5I am in Montreal Qc, and I'd like to organize something similar to meet other programmers / IT people and exchange ideas.
It would be a great opportunity to make contacts in the industry while socializing and having fun... Which we all need more don't we?
Let me know if you are interested, I don't have the website ready but here is my email: mtlgeeks[at]gmail.com

- helpimstuck, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3*I* moved to the Bay Area for gatherings like SuperHappyDevHouse (and hot asian women)! That Matt dude stole my line.
- DrIce926, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3This is EXACTLY why I'm thinking of moving to CA soon.
However, I'm sure they'll get a lot more than ~90 people at this upcoming meeting, as "word of mouth" is very different from "word of digg." Keep digging, people, and that house is likely to bust at the beams! - dweekly, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3The damn thing works. (Motorola E815) Unlike most of the phones made since 2001.
- shampoovta, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2 let us see,...
Gaming party
Adventuring party
Landing party
Rescue party
Tupperware party
you are right pak314! - progrium, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Seems fitting to mention here that Kevin Rose used to show up at SuperHappyDevHouse. Here's a Geek Entertainment TV interview with him that was filmed at DevHouse 0x06:
http://www.geekentertainment.tv/2005/12/19/kevin-rose-diggs-deep-with-getv/ - webwormx, on 10/11/2007, -4/+6There's one happening on Saturday the 23rd.
Photos from previous SHDH meetings: http://flickr.com/search/?q=superhappydevhouse&m=text - aarongough, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2oh i know... sometimes I think of moving there just for the forge-ahead spirit
- alienvenom, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2yes and i'm sure they will totally pwn us when they find out we all run linux and osx on our laptops. go back to school, n00b.
- violentvinyl, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2@popothebright (#7248525)
Don't know what kind of geek you are, but I always willingly accepted the label because it meant I WASN'T doing what everyone else was doing. - asdfasdf, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Only thing they're missing is LSD, assuming it's not already available.
- shimamoto, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2As good as the whole social web 2.0 thing is, some of us could probably benefit from some 'real world" social interaction.
- cha0sFB, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3Geeking out means they're doing cocaine :P
- iffypop, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I love this page about Matthew Smith for die-hard 80s programming feel-goodness..
http://jswremakes.emuunlim.com/Authors/Smith/mystery.htm - Tacobake, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Why are you here?
- mrubens, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I was quoted in the article -- woot! Maybe http://sketchfu.com will be the next great SHDH success story.
- alienvenom, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1you know, i dont ever recall anyone saying we break the law of any kind, except you... you're assuming we're all black hat hackers who break the law by cracking encryption keys (like "DVD John") and thus violating the DMCA and the other similar computer acts. people like you are what give hackers a bad name. perhaps you should actually attend one of the events before you come up with such conclusions, you ignorant *****. hackers is a loose term -- get used to it. and next time, before you spill ***** from that thing you call a mouth, you should read up on the word (in this case "hackers") before you assume you know what it means better than we do: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hackers.
- asciilogic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1sounds like fun. i wonder how many real ideas come out of the meetings.
- counterplex, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Don't get me started on my Startac. That phone's survived (among other things) a few bites from a dog's mouth, 4 hours in the rain and tons of drops on pavement, concrete and carpet.
Oh and it still works like a champ :) I've bought a few phones since then but they all break too easily. I always end up re-activating the Startac. And yes, the rep always looks at me funny. - slapthemonkey, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Why only in valley, why not outside also?
- davidreid, on 10/11/2007, -3/+3This search gets nearly twice as many: http://flickr.com/search/?w=all&q=superhappydevhouse+or+shdh&m=text
- axelf, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0I think that this is fantastic! It would be interesting to try and organize something like across the pond in the UK, is anyone interested? I'm sure organizing one would be no harder than a small/medium sized lan-gaming event. Let me know if you like the idea of one of these in the UK: elder_alex@hotmail.com
- way2jaded, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2Seriously, Can she just post her recipe for hot pockets???
- pak314, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1According to the dictionary, a party is "A group of people who have gathered to participate in an activity." Seems like a party to me.
- mercprog, on 10/11/2007, -4/+2Awesome the more we get programmers to be entrepreneurs, and thinking outside the cube walls, the better we all will be. I love the idea, I wish there was one in my area. I think the traveling show won't come to my small town in Michigan.

www.mercenaryprogrammer.com - marsieve, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1Sweet article, Jeff! :-)
- popothebright, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1Well after looking closely at the picture I'm left with only one comment:
No self-respecting geek carries a phone from 2001.
They may be enthusiastic, but they may not be all that current. - SimianSamurai, on 10/11/2007, -5/+1Young software developers resurrect Hebrew spirit??
- JohnnyXmas, on 10/11/2007, -4/+0HOW IS THIS NEWS?!
Buried: LAME. - daleeburg, on 10/11/2007, -5/+1site down, no mirrors
- dpaul87, on 10/11/2007, -6/+1"GEEKING OUT"... I fuc*ing hate that word!
- macamatition, on 10/11/2007, -21/+1I'm 14 so I don't consider people over 21 young developers.
