- inactive, on 11/06/2007, -2/+33Congrats to the Drupal community and all, but these awards seem a little... I guess the word best suited is retarded. Why did WordPress win for best social networking software. WordPress is a blogging platform, not social networking software. Then Druapl wins for best overall open source CMS, but then takes second place to Joomla! for best open source PHP CMS? They are both PHP!
What the hell? This is just cheap publicity for Packt Publishing. - Verdanic, on 11/12/2007, -0/+10I used Joomla for a client's site a few months ago, which is still being worked on - I tried out one of the latest Drupal releases a month or so back and now I'm really regretting the decision to go with Joomla. It's really evolved into a very impressive CMS.
- mtoigo, on 11/02/2007, -0/+5Does anyone know if Expression Engine is truly open source? I've used it on 3 sites and it absolutely blew away anything I've tried to do using drupal due to easy customization, seamless integration between modules, and professionally written documentation. Drupal is nice, but always felt too much like a bunch of pieces that had to be cobbed together and never ending up with a nice admin interface that end users could use.
- b05q, on 11/02/2007, -0/+5I'm lovin the Schema API (rail migrations for drupal!), can't wait for 6 to come out of beta.
- eaton, on 11/03/2007, -0/+5heh. Yeah, that was badly timed. There's been a planned upgrade to the issue tracking infrastructure for the past week or two, and it ended up falling right in the middle of the digg front page window. Doh!
- concertina, on 11/06/2007, -0/+3Plone was nominated, and I would be shocked if it or Zope has not been used successfully for supply chain management.
- clouseau, on 11/05/2007, -0/+3Actually http://dailypaul.com runs on Drupal.
- Scyth3, on 11/02/2007, -0/+3$5,000 for a front page story on digg, and 18,000 unique hits while not on digg -- not too shabby I must say :)
- iamnos, on 11/03/2007, -0/+3Nope. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheque
- eaton, on 11/06/2007, -0/+3I think most people confuse "high traffic" with "enterprise". I'd be frightened if someone tried to create, say, a supply chain management system with any of the CMS's that were nominated...
- DoubtingThomas, on 11/02/2007, -0/+3I use Drupal almost exclusively for personal consulting projects which require little or no additional coding on top of what Drupal (and 3rd party modules) provide. It is pretty 'effing amazing what you can do by just combining CCK and Views modules. However, I would not select Drupal for anything that required extensive coding, unit testing, constant integration, heavy transactions, work flows, etc. Which basically means anything on enterprise level, and no Digg IS NOT an enterprise application no matter how you look at it. Right tool for the right job.
- dunkin, on 11/06/2007, -0/+2Winners in the other final categories include:
Most Promising: MODx
Best Open Source PHP: Joomla!
Best non PHP Open Source CMS: mojoPortal
Best Social Networking: WordPress
My vote went to MODx. - concertina, on 11/03/2007, -0/+2Plone.
Unit testing, versioning, extensibility, a usable framework, transactions, workflows, security. A system that is actually engineered with all of these things in mind from the ground up.
It's not perfect, but it's by far the best option out there for open-source enterprise CMS. - pxlpshr, on 09/04/2008, -0/+2try a WAMP installation, it's much easier. http://www.wampserver.com/en/
- jrsvanquish, on 11/03/2007, -1/+3wow - great time for the Drupal site to be down due "a site upgrade" :)
- mozillamonks, on 11/12/2007, -9/+11Go Drupal!
- gfunkera, on 11/03/2007, -0/+2I've been using drupal for about 1.5+ years now and it's by far the best of all the open source CMS's. Most of my sites are based off drupal, and it is exponentially better and easier to modify than Joomla.
- dutchjingles, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2I love working with Drupal! Since we've installed it I don't have to bother my programm-partner anymore :). We have setup a service for people who would like to test the Drupal CMS before they install it on a server: http://freedrupal5hosting.com
Overhere you can setup a subdomain (or use your own domain) in a split second and use the CMS right away! - yoyobean, on 11/03/2007, -1/+3Couldn't agree more Verdanic. I've got a project site running an older version of Joomla. Time and time again you're handcuffed trying to do something in Joomla, and have to find the fix by trolling forums for hours on end. It's a good CMS and can be made nice on the GUI front end side, but back end stuff is horrible. Drupal on the other hand is a nice tight project, standards-compliant, search friendly, and has a great community.
- zonk3r, on 11/02/2007, -0/+2I'm still running pmachine (the precursor to EE). I bought EE when it was released and never took the opportunity to convert over to it (and at the time several modules weren't even available so it would have been a downgrade until they got the other modules out the door). Mainly because I'm lazy. However it is a really cool and I'm glad to see others using it too.
- clouseau, on 11/03/2007, -0/+2Plenty of sites have scaled Drupal up successfully.
- dafragsta, on 11/03/2007, -0/+2Drupal is SOO much better than it was 2 years ago. It's like a plug and play, layout agnostic website in a box. Before you even have time to think about writing a module for your esoteric needs, chances are, someone has already beat you to it. I think Drupal is by far the best CMS in existance right now, as well.
I had a fascination with Joomla AND Ruby on Rails. Ultimately, with CCK and views, Drupal displaced both. - livejamie, on 11/04/2007, -0/+2wow that might be the ugliest site i've ever seen
- mtoigo, on 11/02/2007, -0/+2I'm glad I'm not the only one who uses it, and I'm also surprised it doesn't get more coverage. I think the fact that it isn't free for commercial use is what turns some people off. $250 is pretty much nothing if your doing any kind of commercial web design though. It's just about the only CMS i've seen where the templating is good enough that you can get away with making entire sites without having to touch any PHP.
- Theipolicy, on 11/03/2007, -0/+2I love Drupal. It can do anything with or without a module. Joomla is too heavy and tries to use simplicity to make itself a better CMS while ignoring basic needs that a website has.
Drupal core + taxonomy+views=heaven. - DigiDave, on 11/03/2007, -0/+2I'm a big fan of Drupal -- and have found that it played an important role in shaping the political left since the Dean campaign in 2004
I just finished writing my mastes thesis on this very subject -- if anyone is interested (wants to publish it) holla at me.

- musicluv, on 11/07/2007, -0/+1I like drupal but i prefer joomla. Anyway congratulations.
- freudianslipper, on 11/02/2007, -0/+1I was really hoping somebody was going to mention EE. I feel like it's this secret, bad ass ninja CMS. Perhaps it's ellis lab's fault for not catering to the blogging world or advertising heavily or something (even though it's a CMS not just blog software).
I use it exclusively now for all of my clients and my own sites as well and it's just an amazing tool. I've used joomla and drupal and wordpress, etc and nothing compares to Expression Engine in my opinion. - GTPilot, on 11/09/2007, -0/+1I think I have worked with this guy before .. In fact, most people probably have :)
- morphir, on 11/05/2007, -0/+1and what do you use? NukeMyPHP?
- fac3less, on 11/02/2007, -0/+1Well, I was hoping e107 would have won -- it got 3rd in another section: http://www.e107.org
I've been using it for years. In comparison to Drupal -- it's much easier to use.
Drupal has a fairly steep learning curve. - GTPilot, on 11/09/2007, -0/+1wrong, i manage quite a few large scale drupal sites which use postgres.
- morphir, on 11/05/2007, -0/+1that made my lollerskates accelerate XD
- etx313, on 11/03/2007, -3/+4I just tried to setup Drupal on a site and it was seriously a PITA. I abandon it and lost about a weeks worth of work to switch to Joomla and I like it much better. I've been using php for over 8 year so that wasn't the issue, it was just too hard to theme the way I wanted. The nomenclature is very odd also. It's very powerful no doubt, but I just doesn't make since a lot of times.
- igmuska, on 02/29/2008, -0/+1great news for Drupal....poor Joomla! is getting left in its dust
- lewhich, on 11/02/2007, -0/+1If only someone can direct me to a URL where I can get a descent tutorial on how to install PHP5 on IIS 5.1 + MySql 5 enabled - without not having to be looking for files all over the place .... then maybe I will be able to test Drupal on my own box (faster).
- pengas, on 11/02/2007, -0/+1Like??
- Remmy, on 11/03/2007, -2/+3Giggle? I suppose you would suggest a technology like Active Server Pages or Cold Fusion? Or your one of those Ruby zealots maybe? PHP is well suited for enterprising. It's all about how things are done. It all comes down to proficiency and method of implementation. DIgg is PHP and it seems to handle content pretty well.
- opethlike, on 11/12/2007, -2/+3HEY! Guess what? Nobody cares about your stupid blog. STOP DOING THAT.
- darkhero, on 11/02/2007, -0/+1Drupal Rocks!
I am currently beta testing Drupal 6 Beta 2 and it is awesome. You can edit the performance to easily handle the digg effect. - Red_Eye, on 11/03/2007, -4/+4And Drupal.org. is down!

Drupal Drupal Drupal Drupal Druuuuuuupal! - raulreynoso, on 05/11/2009, -0/+0We have completed a survey of professional developers about the strengths and weaknesses of Joomla and Drupal Survey. We received about 200 responses. The survey results are available in a couple different formats. For more information view our blog post anouncing the results of the Drupal vs. Joomla Survey.
The topics covered in our survey include the availability of developers for each CMS, ease of use, extensibility, the quality of documentation, and more. We hope these results will help people determine which CMS is best for their project

- nborda, on 11/09/2007, -0/+0I have been waiting for Drupal to win this award, it's great! I think both Drupal and Joomla are good CMSs, but Drupal has started winning a lot of awards lately, and IMHO I think Drupal has some really killer features, such as a powerful taxonomy and a really easy way to display content with views. What I like about Drupal is that it can be used to do anything on the web really, from really static brochure sites to complex online services (such as a backend to power Facebook Applications) to Rich Internet Applications. I can't wait until the day that CMSs become so ubiquitous, that small orphanages in developing countries can accept donations from the world and interact with other orphanages from around the world online.
- web2crawler, on 05/15/2009, -0/+05,000$ must be a joke for a such great system!
