- jayadelson, on 01/11/2008, -6/+82Oh and did we mention the the first twelve new hires get a free, un-broken comment system?
- AndrewDB, on 01/11/2008, -3/+66Whats so hard about programing lamps? On.. Off.
They're simple. - jayadelson, on 01/11/2008, -4/+60...and the possibility of having Kevin Rose lob a football into the back of your head.
- capiCrimm, on 01/11/2008, -2/+44buried as spam. WTF is "Digg" anyway?
- cgruber, on 01/11/2008, -0/+38HA that's what the obvious novice would say. An experience professional knows that there are dimmer options as well.
- SaxxonPike, on 01/11/2008, -9/+36In before lame quotes such as "I love LAMP"
- sfrench, on 01/11/2008, -2/+26Joe. You forgot to mention the proximity to good burritos.
- sfrench, on 01/11/2008, -0/+23(Really? (you wonder (why (people (don't use (scheme) for web(programming?))) (I can't (possibly think (of a single(reason))))))
- cusoman, on 01/11/2008, -4/+25Sold. Where do I sign up?
Crap, I just failed the interview, didn't I? - pbaehr, on 01/11/2008, -3/+23Working knowledge of compact fluorescents a must.
- lateralus, on 01/11/2008, -0/+14That's a conversation to be had between you and Grey Hound
- AndrewDB, on 01/11/2008, -0/+13I didn't get the upgrade for dimmers yet... it's too expensive. :(
- cgruber, on 01/11/2008, -0/+12Digg is my parents basement? Who knew?
- 420greg, on 01/11/2008, -0/+12Since it is in the Bay Area I hope it pays over 100k a year.
/is there a drug test? :) - isaactwito, on 01/11/2008, -0/+12Sorry dude, HTML does not get you jobs.... ever.
- Tritis, on 01/11/2008, -2/+14Hey, if you get a job at digg, think you could do everyone a favor and speed up every single page while it renders in my browser? maybe stop it from spiking the process too?
Thanks,
The Internet. - cgruber, on 01/11/2008, -0/+11Make sure you put 420greg@gmail.com on the resume too.
- wybiral, on 01/11/2008, -0/+11How much Python use are we talking about here?
- igeoffi, on 01/11/2008, -0/+11correction: all your time
- frederoil, on 01/11/2008, -1/+12No, you're confused. You've got the clap, not the clapper.
- greengiant2684, on 01/11/2008, -1/+11So glad I have a dimmer, I knew buying Lamp Home Premium would pay off.
- isaactwito, on 01/11/2008, -0/+10Am I dyslexic if I read cornucopia as porcupine?
- ha1f, on 01/11/2008, -1/+10Thank you that was so insightful.
Now GTFO. - d3dm, on 01/11/2008, -1/+10I misread the title as "...hiring LAME programmers". Damn, I thought I had just found the perfect job!
- blink21, on 01/11/2008, -3/+12...and nerf guns, skateboards, a cornucopia of tea and beverages in our kitchen, and a great culture that encourages everyone to contribute creatively.
- cgruber, on 01/11/2008, -0/+8oN
- frederoil, on 01/11/2008, -0/+8What rolls down stairs alone or in pairs
Rolls over your neighbor's dog?
What's great for a snack and fits on your back?
It's Lamp, Lamp, Lamp! - isaactwito, on 01/11/2008, -0/+8You're absolutely right. When it comes to web development I go for DUQ. Good old Dos 6.2, udp for all the internetting you need to get done (who hosts an entire site when tiny little messages will do?), and Qbasic for processing all your records and feebly holding everything together (if Perl is the glue of the internet, then Qbasic is the off brand scotch tape). At blazing bauds of succulent speed.
- coleki, on 01/11/2008, -5/+13I've been using LAMP ever since I installed Ubuntu on my laptop a few months ago. Since I'm often without (reliable) internet access, this was an excellent solution to my amateur web programming addiction.
The only thing I found mself wanting was a good offline php search, equivalent to the php.net site/function search. I wrote a quick 10-minute script that works in conjunction with the downloadable php documentation files, and I've been slowly working on improving it with the help of some of my fellow geek friends.
As soon as I fix a small bug in the current version, I'll post it here for anyone that's interested. - ha1f, on 01/11/2008, -0/+8LOL.
Check "Jobs at Digg" in the footer. - coleki, on 01/11/2008, -0/+6Will do. This will definitely be open source, and I'd encourage anyone and everyone to contribute and improve it.
- grendelboogie, on 01/11/2008, -0/+6We do hire interns from time to time. Send an inquiry to jobs@digg.com. Tell us what area of digg you'd be interested in working in (Development, Operations, Marketing/Business Development) and we'll consider it.
- frederoil, on 01/11/2008, -3/+9the place where you spend all your free time.
- cgruber, on 01/11/2008, -1/+7humm wonder why that might be.
- joestump, on 01/11/2008, -0/+5I left college for Web 1.0 in 2000, got a year of amazing experience and then went back after the bubble and finished up. Just sayin'.
- rootnik, on 01/11/2008, -0/+5Please send me a shout when completed, I am interested.
- surfing, on 01/12/2008, -1/+5Is that prison lingo?
- ha1f, on 01/11/2008, -0/+4We'll, I'd have to 1. Leave school, 2. Move from Maryland to California, 3. Face the rath of my mother.
My resume is on the way. - BillDoE, on 01/11/2008, -3/+7I got the clapper, does that count?
- Rekzai, on 01/11/2008, -0/+3Can I do an internship?
- cgruber, on 01/11/2008, -0/+3If there's homerowed Fridays I'm updating my resume.
- kckman, on 01/11/2008, -0/+3I operate my LAMP with the clapper.
- MtheoryX, on 01/11/2008, -0/+3That's because your bitching whininess to productive development ratio was way off the chart.
- ha1f, on 01/11/2008, -2/+4"GNU/Emacs"
You fail. - joestump, on 01/11/2008, -0/+2I moved from Michigan to California for my job. My mom was plenty cool with it when she found out the job offer came with a salary that was more than most people she knew were making.
- crawf061, on 01/14/2008, -0/+2I'm just perplexed about how Jay gets no love. Perhaps I could have phrased it differently.
- dummersack, on 01/11/2008, -0/+2please send me a shout too ;)
- SirBruce, on 01/11/2008, -2/+4I love LAMP.
- mrhuhk, on 01/12/2008, -1/+3I'm going to insert dumb anti-PHP comments here. Not for a good reason. After all, PHP has only been production-tested for years on several of the top 50 websites on the internet.
I'm going to bitch about PHP because I have an ill-conceived notion about "real" programming, as if there is such a thing.
Seriously, guys. If something works well enough for them, then STFU. It works. Bottom ***** line. - quii, on 01/12/2008, -0/+2Only 20 days PTO? :/
