- leetdood, on 10/19/2007, -2/+16Digg will be buried by the end of the week.
- PWNE, on 10/19/2007, -1/+14Am I the only one who finds it funny that people are submitting to Digg to revolt against it?

- MMilitia, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9This is the most retarded thing I've ever seen. This isn't a revolution. This isn't defending freedom of speech. It is a bunch of childish nerds getting off on breaking the rules.
You all know that in a weeks time this will all be forgotten and you will all still be here despite proclaiming at every opportunity that you're leaving forever.
Grow up, but more importantly shut up. - crazylax42, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I can't believe how incredibly stupid everyone is. I really do hope digg shuts down over this just so maybe you will realize the difference between our right of speech and someone else's right to their own property
- otheruser, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8No.
Digg fudged up. They accepted money from a very unpopular group (here on Digg), blocked new stories, and deleted comments. This was NOT the way it should have been handled.
If Digg goes under because of this, well, perhaps it deserved it. - bpapa, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Hopefully this leads to all of the people getting pissed and leaving digg. With all the teenage rebelz gone, this site could probably become pretty good again.
- reevolutn, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8can we have some real news now?
- MorganNiemand, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I'm sorry, but I think this is absolutely retarded, instead of graciously accepting that Digg doesn't want a lawsuit and allowing them to take an encryption key down, you feel the need for a Digg riot? Dumb. You know who's hurting as a result? You, the Digg users, rather than having good quality stories on the front page you have this HD-DVD garbage. Grow up, folks.
- cbreaker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Yea, it's really too bad. Not unexpected, though. Digg is the Slashdot for the kids of 2007, whereas someplace like Slashdot is the place where the kids of 1997 hung out and grew up. Mix that and the fact that groupspeak is king od Digg.. There's a lot of young kids using digg (often under 13 years old) and this is to be expected.
I'm just surprised it hasn't all happened earlier. The funny thing is how these kids think that this is somehow "teaching them a lesson" or actually going to change anything. In the US, you change things by actually being involved in your representation (and you don't have to be able to vote to do that) and when you come of age, continuing that and either running for office or voting for who shares your values. Don't buy things with DRM, or preference your buying for open media. Not by vandalism. - vil33, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1009 F9 11 02 9D 74 E3 5B D8 41 56 C5 63 56 88 C0
They started deleting stories. - chrisutley, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5"THIS is a revolution!"
You and these other morons have no idea what a revolution is. Most of you couldn't carry on an intelligent conversation on this subject. You just shake your fists in the air, because you think you have a right to copy Weekend at Bernie's without the copyright holder's permission. Crazy World we live in, just crazy. - chrisutley, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8This isn't passion, it's a frenzy made up mostly of mindless followers looking for their 15-seconds of Digg fame. Go get a real cause, stealing intellectual property is a cause for the selfish, stupid, and lazy. Lobbyists, the Bill of Rights, the Constitution, Human Rights, and much more ... that's what should be causing this kind of commotion. What the hell will I do if I can't rip my friend's HD-DVD copy of Weekend at Bernie's? What has this World come to? We must be able to violate copyright holder's rights, we just gotta!
- MorganNiemand, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8I'm sorry, but I think this is absolutely retarded, instead of graciously accepting that Digg doesn't want a lawsuit and allowing them to take an encryption key down, you feel the need for a Digg riot? - bouche, on 10/12/2007, -14/+17I agree. I just see a boatload of unified childish nerdiness taken to the extreme. Nerds are actually SUPPOSED to be cool again. Only, these types of posts and hijacking are giving the nerds and geeks a bad name. Let's take back our nerdanism before things get outta hand!
- YesMoreLight, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Here
let it all out
feedback@digg.com - dknighton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3BTW...how many of you "revolting" ***** even OWN an HD-DVD player? I'm guessing that since you're living in your mother's basements, you can't really afford one on your McDonald's paychecks.
- pdxvanyel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3All these idiots are doing is trashing a site, that if it did what they wanted, would be sued into oblivion *because* it is so visible. Basically your typical anarchist whose only aim is to destroy and create chaos. If they really cared about getting their message out, they'd post it as a comment to those bazillion blogs that no one reads and get entangled in the web of net search engine caches before The Powers That Be could find them. But instead, they'd rather ruin everyone else's fun than do something productive.
- Venator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If the government forced Digg to take the stories off than we would have a cause to defend freedom of speech.
What this is really doing is strongly recommending digg gives its users the ability to say what they want. - dknighton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2They're not behaving passionately....they're being childish. And no, this isn't the first time. Maybe on this scale, but not the first time. Digg users have often been accused of being adolescent. This proves it.
- chicken59, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6digg is trying to keep all the processing key stories off the front page
key stories with 400 diggs arent making it but non key stories are making it with 30

- andrewthrice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Is there such thing a bad publicity? I mean, come on, it's a wisdom-of-the-crowds case study.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Wow, you guys are acting like this is some big *****.
This is a news site... - ZaNkY, on 10/12/2007, -16/+18THIS IS RIDICULOUS. Revolution? More like immature childness .
I genuinely feel sad for Kevin, Jay and crew. I doubt they're crying over this, but they're certainly not drinking champagne over all of this. What's worst is that the Digg community in all it's "wiseness" is essentially *raping* Digg with those fateful numbers. The ENTIRE front page is just stories with the keys..... Come on, seriously people.....
Don't get me wrong, I'm against all censorship of any kind. But... Digg is in a tough position, and If Digg does get sued for the thousands of keys floating around.... and If digg does go under (god forbid)... I would be incredibly pissed at the collectively immature Digg user base for stabbing ITSELF in the back...
I'm probably gonna get dugg down by all the 12 year olds, but Digg's Crew: hope you guys figure this one out. Don't lose hope cause a lot of faithful members are calling it quits. I can't say I understand what you guys are going through (never been C&Ded :P), but I know we'll pull through.
I haven't been Digging lately (just reading) due to schedule conflicts, but the maturity level here is really driving me nuts (hence my urge to stand up for Digg). Be mature guys, instead of always trying to stick it to the man, pick your battles. Even in the name of free speech and all that goodness, this one is not worth fighting (at least here/now).
--Zank - HumphreyB, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is sorta what happened at the Big Day Out (Australia's biggest music festival) this year. The organisers issued a warning against bringing flags along and everyone turned into a flag waving retard.
- DiggzDE, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You are all so dumb.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2LOL INTERNET
- stonewaljacksn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3YOU ARE NOT FIGHTING FOR FREEDOM OF SPEECH. You are being a bunch of nerdy fags. Wait till someone steals the code to your ***** ADT alarm system and starts posting it all over the internet in the name of free speech *****.
- aywwts4, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This isn't about taking down the key, its about taking down posts about taking down the key. There was no legal liability involved with a thread going "where did that huge story go?"
The key has just become the battle-cry of those outraged about that censorship. - dt40, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5It seems clear that it is time for a one-day Digg boycott: the flames, stories, etc. are surely making a lot of noise, but as we learned so well in the Imus situation the threat of losing income is a strong motivator for a capitalistic venture.
Let's pick a day a few days from now, then refuse to participate in digg.com in any way. Use the day to explore other social news networking sites.
Anyone care to step up and organize? - tropicdog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Kevin Rose and Digg wanted a grand experiment with a web based social bookmarking site. Well, here it is. While I understand comments about Digg possibly getting into some awkward moments with their advertisers, ***** 'em. This is a social site based on what the users submit. The users are submitting a front page full of content surrounding a momentarily controversial series of numbers, so what, that's what the site is about.
To hell with the advertisers, Digg is successful, that's why the advertisers are advertising here.
If they are putting pressure on Digg to yank down content, then to Hell with Digg if they cave in.
What happened to the "web 2.0, net savvy, socially aware, pseudo hacker, neo-web-activist" attitude there was in the beginning? I haven't happened to run across any comments from Digg representatives so I won't speculate on what they are doing or why or how they feel or anything. I don't really think it matters anyway. This is (was) a forum for users to be able to post links to content elsewhere on the Internet and to comment on it.
I mostly agree with observations that perhaps a lot of the comments on Digg are typically immature, so what. Freedom of expression and the free exchange of ideas and thoughts was what this site was about, wasn't it?
Myself, I'm Digging a lot of the links for a mixture of reasons.
- I too am against censorship.
- I generally wish the *AA would crawl away and die like the dinosaurs they are.
- In a somewhat immature way, I'm thumbing my nose "at the man."
- In a much more serious manner, I'm voicing support for freedom of thought. - zero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2this isnt passion its monkey see monkey do
- wulvsbayne, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Your parents should pay more attention to your internet habits. (Unless they are too busy getting stoned to care....) Grow up and use these skills to earn a check instead of stealing what you have no right to. Crackers can evolve into hackers or Network Security Admin's/Consultants and etc. I am living proof. Just remember to grow up before you get busted.

I beg you to organize such a day. It will be my best day on digg ever, without all you ***** losers around. - Comatose51, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Can we please call a cease fire from both sides? I think we have their attention so let's communicate. Can we please stop burying other stories and just digg this one. Bury every comment with the key and just use this one to communicate with the admins. Let us say what we want and don't delete this post. This isn't about the key any more. To be fair, censorship has always happened before on Digg and we abided by that. Certain objectionable content has always been deleted. The difference is that this time most of us don't agree that a number can be or should be censored. Then again, isn't every file just a very long number? Where do we draw the line?
- harry4000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Digg complied with the law so they wouldn't be shut down. All of you shut up with your comments about how Digg will ban any story they don't like.
- aywwts4, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3(thats odd, my post got deleted. But before I cry "Admin!" Im going to bet the servers are just smoking at the moment)
Yes, truly this is about more than the number, most of the people repeating the number will never use it to crack a single HD-DVD
The outrage we have is due to.... Let me list the reasons actually.
1. The initial removal of the first two "spread this number" post, and the banning of the two users who posted them.
2. Having absolutely no explanation or owning up to it. A simple "we are sorry, we really just don't want to get sued" would look a hell of a lot better than it just disappearing.
3 Deleting threads commenting about the take-down of the original offending thread (there were no legal problems with many of these threads, they just were discontent with digg's handling of the situation) (No amount of apologies would work at this state "we are sorry, we just don't like getting criticized" doesn't sound good)
4. Deleting users who commented negatively at digg.
5. Suspicious changes to digg's algorithms, very popular stories got buried in the peak of their popularity, and very trivial unpopular stories got front paged.
6. Lying in their first statement since the event, saying they only responded to legal threats, when quite clearly the removals and bans extended beyond the number chain, and into criticism of digg's administrative policy.
7. The fact that every other website has stood up to them, (slashdot, reddit, wired, etc) except digg.
I think that about covers it. - chrisutley, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3"Digg me down as low as it will go, for without the freedom to say what we want, what reason is there to live? "
Can you people really be this dumb? What is Digg?
