- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The 4-star system is superior to the 5-star system in every way. Discuss!

According to my economics teacher, 4 star (or any even number) is better than 5 star because people will often decide upon the median grade if they aren't shure if they like something or not. using even numbers forces a person to think about if they like or dislike something in the slightest - Phoenyx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The 4-star system has no middle ground. It forces people to take a stand! They aren't allowed to choose some wishy-washy middle star.
- redbeard25, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Now here's a great idea - whenever an item on digg gets over 30 diggs, it automatically gets Coral cached and the main link goes there instead of the originating site? The "via" quote could link to the original if it only worked non-cached.
- dognose, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If only digg had star ratings.
- jo42, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dunno, seems like a really complicated way to achieve something very simple...
- Falken, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Very nice tutorial. Sticks with web standards as well, which is always a plus!
- climaxdesigns, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nickaster, im not sure where my php implementation breaks down for you, but if you have any problems with feel free to drop me an email. cd(at)climaxdesigns.com, i'd be glad to help you understand the code, orif you have some suggestions I'll listen.
- ifonly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0works for me
- trovster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's only /dead because of the "digg-effect" shall we say. No need to report anything! heh
- xxclixxx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've been wanting to do something like this. Never bothered to look for an article on it but found it anyways ;-)
- conigs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I had no problem connecting to the site... keep trying.
- Moocat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Site dead

Pff. The 6-star rating system owns all. - apotropaic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yea I prefer the 9 star though...
- dSlifer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0^--- That's true, good point!
- nickaster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm not sure why they call this "CSS" only.. you still need a massive amount of back end work (php+mySQL) to get it to work and there don't seem to be any tutorials out there about it... slim's is a start but totally breaks down. Anyone seen anything to really make this work?
- emag, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0God, I wish more sites would implement (semi?)automatic coral cache redirection. It's relatively simple to do under apache, lets you still see the hits in your logs, and yet relieves SO much of the burden. That, or wishing digg would pre-populate the Coral Cache, even if not providing a direct link to it (though providing it as an extra sink would be nice, too...).
- Tracon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wow never bothered to think about why 5 star rating would be bad. well i'm done learning for today back to work. :)
- Elxx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Aww poo, I've implemented this system on a site that I'm working on, but I can't really get to Part 2 yet...it's digged, and the Coral Cache link gives a 503 as well. :(
- ymschaap, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@nickstar: dont wanna link to myself but still: http://www.yvoschaap.com/index.php/weblog/css_star_rater_ajax_version/ might helps more.
