- anagoge, on 07/29/2008, -0/+9I just want to point out that even before you decide on the layout of your site, please take a minute to consider what CONTENT is going on it. For example, you could have a great 3 column layout that looks really nice...but all you're putting on the site is a bio about yourself. Consider your content and design around it accordingly. NEVER design your content around the layout because you'll find that it's a hell of a lot harder to do.

Three column layout, centered. Middle column is fixed width (say 600px). The two side columns need to be fluid/flexible such that they use the remaining width on the left and right sides (evenly). Height of side columns is not important and does not need to affect the footer.
Another way to state this is that the layout needs to be able to replace a 3 column table, where the table width is 100%, middle td width is 600px and left/right td widths are 50%.

The other way would be to bombard MS and force standards compliance, also not likely. Although anything is possible with mass and momentum.
