- omnirusa, on 10/11/2007, -4/+427So true. I dont even think the " " works to find phrases...
It just brings up all articles with ANY of the words you used. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -27/+280Is it that hard to make a photo section?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+232I just want the option to search only my own Diggs back. I know I can google search within digg.com/users/me, but I have to use the cached page unless I haven't Dugg anything since Digg was last indexed. I miss when it was simpler.
If I can still do this and I haven't noticed how, bury me. - FadieZ, on 10/28/2007, -2/+97I've been searching for a story like this for ages so I could digg it but for some reason I could never find one.
- dn11, on 10/11/2007, -3/+68that's what I do. pretty sad when a sites search function sucks so bad you have to use google
- wwwdot1jesdotus, on 10/11/2007, -2/+66That was the first thing I was going to say. It definitely needs to be redone.
- andregriffin, on 10/11/2007, -3/+64I agree completely. Digg should just google for their search algorithm.
- shattadeya, on 10/11/2007, -0/+54Have you tried searching your own dugg stories? It is like searching for that sock you knew you put in the dryer.
Digg I hope you listen to this one. - bigfkncee, on 10/11/2007, -2/+55For greasemonkey users.....this replaces the digg search with a google search....you can double click in the search field to turn it on and off(yellow indicates Google mode)

worked like a charm for me - dvsbastard, on 10/11/2007, -2/+51I find that using Google works way better than 90% of sites own search functions for all but the most simple searches...
- angel0, on 10/11/2007, -0/+37Diggs' search algorithm:
$query = explode(" ", $query);
foreach($query as $word)
$where[] = "`description` like '%$word%'";
$sql = "SELECT * FROM `articles` WHERE ".implode(" OR ", $where); - excid3, on 10/11/2007, -8/+45Seriously they need to have the "most diggs" option the default.
and personally i would rather search Digg THROUGH Digg rather than Googling: "keywords" site:digg.com...but thats just me. - Roger, on 10/11/2007, -12/+47And is it that hard to make a a good commenting system?
I suspect digg needs a more experienced design and programming team. - CyPhiRevolution, on 10/11/2007, -4/+38I'm confused, am I supposed to digg this or bury this in protest?
- thashiz, on 10/11/2007, -8/+41How about adding searchable tags for submitters to include with the article..
- whatsupimphil, on 10/11/2007, -2/+33Entering more than one word when you search is pointless, it just adds in irrelevant results. I've found it's always best to just enter one word that I know is in what I'm looking for.
- cuoops, on 10/11/2007, -1/+32Yeah it's funny how when you submit something it finds the story better than when searching.
- zeebo323, on 10/11/2007, -0/+28It should automatically do that in the first place.
- woobster, on 10/11/2007, -5/+32hell yah, when watching diggnation and im trying to search for something...the most random ***** appears!
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+24Thank you for posting this, it was really overdue. With all the work going into the comment system, I believe the search could have really used it more.
- shattadeya, on 10/11/2007, -2/+26Worst is such a harsh word.
http://www.myspace.com - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+24Well, the comment system was working. Maybe it could of used improvement, but at least it was working. The search basically doesn't work at all.
- TheUnashamed, on 10/11/2007, -1/+24We shouldn't have to go to google, the solution should be integrated into the site.
- ECas123, on 10/11/2007, -0/+21I've had this problem so many times I type "Portable" and it brings up word that have "Able" in the title.
- ultragames, on 10/11/2007, -0/+21Even this search didnt work
http://digg.com/search?s=bury+the+search+bar&submit=Search§ion=news&search-buried=1&type=both&area=promoted&sort=score - Hardcore41, on 10/11/2007, -14/+33I just use it to search for things like Ron Paul ,iPhone, and Apple and digg them all down.
- MaximusIGN, on 10/11/2007, -0/+16Seriosuly. This is a major oversight not to have. They need to make it right up there with fixing the comments.
- stubear, on 10/11/2007, -0/+15The search feature doesn't bug me nearly as much as the stupid "Commented On" links in your user profile. Shouldn't the there be a "jump to my comment" link, especially with this new comment system that may have your comment hidden? While I'm on the comment system, I'd like to have a way to turn all comments on and simply have the reply field appear beneath the comment I'm replying to.
- kcpwnsgman, on 10/11/2007, -0/+15yeah, that was really awkward for me when I was searching for a "molestable interface"
- Eric4, on 10/11/2007, -2/+17I have used the Digg search on many occasions. Number of times that my search queries have returned what I was looking for: 0. I completely agree with the article.
- ECas123, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14I've never had that issue I haven't had to log back into digg in over 2 weeks. And thats just because I had to run CCleaner.
- usherzx, on 10/11/2007, -2/+15they are too busy working on social networking algorithms, but you're right... the digg search is pretty bad
- grungemusic3001, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12i think they're using the lolcat code
- Comanch09, on 10/11/2007, -2/+13No, I have a better idea.
RETURN THE SEARCH FUNCTION FOR DIGGED STORIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DIGG THAT UP FOR CHANGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What is the point of digging stories anymore? You can't search them anymore. You used to be able to though.
Somebody who is good at getting stories dugg do a story on that. That either needs to be changed back, or we should all just not use digg until they bring it back. Digging is worthless pretty much now. - mretx, on 10/11/2007, -5/+16the worst change digg ever made was to remove the option of searching through a specified period of time. week. month ..etc. .... that was like going a step backwards..
it was really helpful to look up stories on a particular topic only in that period of time.
even google.god cant help you with that one!! - lijamez, on 10/11/2007, -4/+14I think it does need to be reworked, but results can be improved by choosing "Sort by Best Match First."
- arcooke, on 10/11/2007, -4/+14There's really no need for tags. The title and description text should contain plenty of keywords to find what you're looking for. That is, of course, if the submitter isn't a complete tool and titles their submission "AMAZING space picture!" with a description of "It's all in the title!".
- Mikecol, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11Most sites are have that problem.
- Me1on, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11I search digg with this google search:
search term (site:www.digg.com/*/* -inurl:/users/ -inurl:/rss/ -inurl:cshow -inurl:*/*/*/who -filetype:xml)
It's useful because it only finds stories, not user pages, rss pages, etc. - ccanni1028, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10Try allowing Digg to set cookies on your computer.
- CthulhuDawn, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11Yes they do you moron. They listened to us and supported free speech with the HD-DVD encryption code issue. They listened to the complaints about the comment system and are improving on it by adding the expand tree button. Part of what makes Digg so great is the fact that the creators LISTEN to the users.
GTFO! - qwertydvorak, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9it would be nice to have them not be mutually exclusive. most times you are searching for the NEWEST BEST MATCH.
- ahsteele, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10No, it was pretty important that they get the comment system under control.
- akilarules, on 10/11/2007, -4/+12the digg search bar sucks. end of story. lets get it fixed.
- mcosmi, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8ive been on dig for a very long time, and i never have to re-login, nor have i ever heard that complaint. I have no problems with login on either safari or firefox. sounds like a definate cookie/browser issue on your box. and btw, digg search definately BLOWS, and always has.
- ckSubs, on 10/11/2007, -5/+13Yeah, how about they fix this ***** commenting system first. It was fine how it was, although that form with additional levels of threading would have been perfect. I'd much rather have comment abuse in the first comment than be unable to read the ***** things. You people "protest" a stupid cd key, but this gets by unanswered?
- farplaner, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8damn, now no one is going to see this comment because the comment above me is going to get digged down to hell.
- aaronm67, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9Go to your user preferences and block "Apple" and "Politics". You'll be amazed at how much more interesting this site gets.
- cubedude6491, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7try typing in president bush along with some keywords, it will be nothing like your looking for

What is Digg?
