Just selected the best out of a whole bunch that i usually use. Hope it helps atleast one person in here - HonoredMule, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Is that why most article submissions seem to be silent bombs from a black hole? I'd rather submitters actually engaged in discussion. At the very least, it would show that they have time to participate in the site in a way that doesn't just get the spam out.

Err... then why does Digg put you at the comment form while telling you it'll be "a few minutes" before your submission appears in the chosen category? It seems Digg encourages that very thing... - seventoes, on 10/12/2007, -7/+15Thanks for commenting on your own story and letting us know that you probably own it.
- tHePeOPle, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11Being the first to comment on your own story is considered around here to be some pretty severe douchebaggery.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Nice, I'm expected to learn C for robotics, so this might help.
- Markie1006, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6umm - that's probably because they don't expect you to require help for the level of problem they're asking you to solve.
If you do need external help, you probably need to study harder in their class. - JasonL, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5MySQL Optimization nothing. Having had my sites on the end of slashdottings several times in the past, I can say the biggest problem with the digg/slashdot effect is when you don't have enough RAM in your server.
A sudden and large influx of additional requests/sec causes Apache to spawn loads of new children to handle the requests, and if MySQL is on the same server as well then each apache thread uses another mysql thread also. So, you have a massive amount of process forking/pthread_create going on which chews CPU and to some extent disk IO. Then you have all the memory these processes eat. If you don't have enough RAM in your server the whole think becomes unresponsive as the kernel goes crazy swapping stuff in and out for these new processes. - 1021, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Looks good - but a problem with big forums with a relatively large user base is that repeated questions get treated pretty rudely without any merit sometimes. Anyways, looks like a decent run-of-the-mill programming forum that anyone can put up.
- d0nk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Also, play around with a Vex kit + programming kit. Chiefedelphi.com is a great FIRST community, as 1021 said.
- Jessehk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3As someone who frequents programmingforums.org, I can honestly say it is the best community I have found.
There are a variety of helpful, knowledgeable, and experienced members who strive to provide the best help they can.
The only time we get snarky is when we get asked about cracking/hacking, and things like: "My code is wrong. Fix it." followed by a 2000 line, un-indented program. - AICkieran, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2What you mean where everything is served dynamically i'd expect that'd take the biggest hit.
- Nick22, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3will be useful to me, but I didnt digg it because it looks pretty obvious like cheap self promotion. Ya, go ahead and look at my profile, im a hypocrit >_>, maybe im just jealous
- bewareofcabbage, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yeah VBForums is on of my favourites, don't be fooled by the name, it covers a wide range of languages, has a large and active userbase too.
- shabbirbhimani, on 08/16/2008, -0/+1I would add one more to the lists of good programming forum and its http://www.go4expert.com/
- tHePeOPle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I think I saw it somewhere in this thread..
http://digg.com/tech_news/Bug_or_Conspiracy_Digg_users_go_CRAZY_modding_down_comments - hackwrench, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Commenting isn't the problem. Comments devoid of any real analysis on the other hand...
- nwkeeley, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1forums.devshed.com is my forum site of choice, great users and answers to posts.
- DaWeiDesigns, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Regarding rudeness, it's pretty simple. When you join, read the rules. If you haven't posted on a technical forum, read the "How to post a question" thread.
- burke, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2This site isn't that big anyway. Look at the threadcount in the duggmirror. The busiest section is C++ with a meager 2300 threads. Nonetheless, I'll sign up later. I'm sure the userbase will increase dramatically over the next week.
- b.m.a.n, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Yea, I have been wanting a place like this. Nice find!
- Bakie, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Thanks for sharing, I've been looking for a community like that. Good tutorials too.

- tHePeOPle, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3@Cl1mh4224rd
It's called 'The Douchebag Test of Willpower'. I think they mention it somewhere in the digg FAQ... near the bottom. - simplekid15, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I'm getting the digg effect
- Mudanie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0It's a good website...been using it for a year now. Just remember to read the FAQ's and guidelines b/c programmers are not very nice by nature lol.
- 1021, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3If you are doing robotics in the FIRST league - I'd recommend www.chiefdelphi.com
- headzoo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2It's takin' a hammering right now, but it looks promising. I'll bookmark it and check it out later.
- bulio, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Just to clear some things up:
No, I don't own programmingforums.org. I simply submitted it because it is a terrific site that I frequent quite often when I need help while writing code.
Secondly, I usually post the first comment on my stories, to get the discussion rolling. If you don't like it, then mod my comment down. - icepack12, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0"The database has encountered a problem"
oops digg - littlebit, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1digg effect right now ;)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2i lost my ipod. if anyone finds it, let me know PLEASE.
- iFrank, on 10/12/2007, -8/+4Forums (especially big ones) should be least affected by Digg. MySQL optimization anyone? On a forum called "Programmer Forums," no less...sheesh.
- mojaam, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2Some teachers/schools give you a programming project and warn you not to ask for ANY help as if they never get stuck writing a program.
- bulio, on 10/12/2007, -33/+9Pretty neat site, its helped me on a lot of different problems that I've encountered while writing code.
