- ShaneVsEvil, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is actually one of my favorite sites. Applescript is basically the main reason I use iTunes, Smart playlists can only go so far in organizing your music. There's nothing as satisfying as an impecably organized and catagorized music library.
- animefx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1sorry if this sounds like a dumb question but, can you use applescript if you have the windows version of itunes?
- beno, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@animefx
No, I don't think so. Applescript is built into OS X - Otto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4animefx: No, but you can create Javascripts that interact with iTunes. I have written several.
Some simple examples:
-Creates a playlist of all the songs in the library with no artwork: http://ottodestruct.com/itunes/NoArtPlaylist.txt
-Creates a playlist of all the songs in the library with no lyrics: http://ottodestruct.com/itunes/NoLyricsPlaylist.txt
-Creates a playlist of all the songs in the library of which you only have one of them by that artist (one hit wonders): http://ottodestruct.com/itunes/onehitwonders.txt
-Imports lyrics from EvilLyrics' into iTunes: http://ottodestruct.com/itunes/EvilLyricsImport.txt
-Removes all lyrics from all songs in your library: http://ottodestruct.com/itunes/ClearLyrics.txt
And so on. They're easy to write. - AhronZombi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0wtf

Sorry.
So its diggs fault - jk_baller23, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm using a couple of his scripts right now :D. I should probably take a closer look at all of the scripts he has to offer.
- SkeletaLlama, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0AH! Finally, no more "tedioud" tasks. I was wondering when someone would break the "tediudm". Digg is one of the few sites with a spell checker, more people need to use it so they don't sound like morons when they post, especially when posting an article.
- Velvis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Does anyone know of a good solution for automating gui based tasks in Windows? For example I would like to automate the downloading of my bank statement in a qif file everyday from my banks website.
- geoboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Otto: how do you run those Javascripts for iTunes? I gotta give that "one hit wonders" script a spin. :)
- Snyder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Otto. How do I take advantage of your javascript iTunes actions? I have no experience with javascript, so I have no clue what to do with those text files. The two that interest me are the "no lyrics playlist generator" and the "EvilLyrics importer".
- ruindpzzle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Otto-
could you help me editing the script to collect the data from my ipod, instead of the songs on my HD? - geoboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nevermind, I figured out how to run them. Rename the extension from .txt to .js, then double-click in to run it. That's how to do it in Windows, anyway.
- Snyder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sweet. That worked :) Although, for me, since .js files were associated with my text editor of choice, I had to right click on the file and choose "Open" as opposed to the default "Edit".
- amishjim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There has to be a better way of getting rid of Duplicate Songs(fix iTunes, perhaps). The Doug's Dupe script isn't perfect, especially when you have over 15,000 songs and 25%-35% are Duplicates. Otto, do you have a script for this? I did try to make a little program in VB, but I only learned a little programming and don't know how to compare every song in a folders Tags/Info against the next song(please don't flame me, I'm trying to learn more). If anyone knows a better way: amishjim at gmail, thank you.
- optimusfx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Props to Doug!
- Snyder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0How is this EvilLyrics script supposed to work? All the other scripts worked fine. I've tried everything I can think of. I set up the js file with the correct location of the EvilLyrics lyric directory. I tried both true and false for the next option. I've been using EvilLyrics for months and it works fine with iTunes, but no matter what I do, no lyrics are added to songs. Eventually a little pop-up is shown that says lyrics were added to 0 songs. Anyone know what I'm not doing correctly?
- GMan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've worked with Doug. He's awesome. Great guy!
- mikataur, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Waiting for an iTunes plugin or AppleScript which detects when a DVD is inserted, rips it, encodes it to H.264, and adds it to the Videos library.
You've got until Tuesday! - Otto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Here, I put up an entry in my blog for how to use these sorts of iTunes JavaScripts in windows. Included a few more as well:
http://ottodestruct.com/blog/2005/10/20/itunes-javascripts/
I also have an entry in there specifically for the EvilLyrics one:
http://ottodestruct.com/blog/2005/10/17/itunes-and-evillyrics/
Please comment on the scripts there on my blog, that way I can answer questions and such. - kyle133, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Have a look at this...
