- pasteler0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7 microsoft is bug fixing =)
- damentz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8LOL!!! i just tried it with explorer to see if it was true. It INSTANTLY makes the taskbar dissapear and all explorer windows. Wow that would be a great prank if someone would spread this on myspace XD.
Maybe if ive been file managing a lot ill makes a portable version of this script to restart the taskbar and close all those windows. - steger, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8didn't crash IE7 beta 3.
- Locuester, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5IE 7 Beta 2 survived
- pasteler0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Hope so, but I'm still with FireFox! :)
- chewy5000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yes! Finally Microsoft are actually doing something about it!
- Quix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"And I'm hoping IE8 will have full CSS 2.1 compliance"
IE 8? Which will be released when, 2025? - i440, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Absurdity. I use IE6 and it only crashes about twice every other cubic day
- smegs, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Crashed my Firefox using IE Tab :P
- Phoenyx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I don't know that the CSS of the page is necessarily *simple*, but it is definitely effective. I tried it on all of the browsers I could think of (both Windows and Linux) and IE was the only one that had a meltdown.
- CBreeze, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Yes. It really crashes my version of IE, thank god I'm not using it :).
- pasteler0, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3indeed!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Maxthon which uses the IE engine didn't flinch.
- anshulk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2>Line : 10 (Level : 1) You have no color with your background-color : #tooltip A:hover
That warning basically means that the color property is not defined and only the background-color is. Adding something like color:#000; along with the background-color would result in perfect validation too. - kd1s, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Crashes my IE6 too. But I don't use IE unless I absolutely have to because some ***** decided that their little doo-dad forms, etc. will only work with MS CSS and Active-X.
Fortunately there seem to be fewer and fewer sites that I visit regularly the enforce use of IE. - matgorb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2There are pages that break certain version of Firefox too, don't get too excited.
- Ludwig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Which part of the CSS, exactly, is the cause of the crash? I'm using OS X and can't play around with the code to see what the culprit actually is.
- drewdiller, on 11/26/2008, -2/+3This is not tech news. Rather than whining about IE's shortcomings, link to resources that might help relieve development frustration, such as "Why does IE reposition things on my page when I hover over a link?" http://positioniseverything.net/explorer/percentages.html
- farm3r, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2M$ is consistently doing something beacuse they are consistently releasing inferior code. (inferior to standards and alternatives).
- shawnz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2closing explorer manually is just as good no?
- twodayslate, on 11/21/2007, -0/+1direct link
http://www.ovelha.org/pasteler0/files/ie-sucks.htm ... - amire80, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Crashes my IE too, works perfectly in Fx and Opera.
I'm not really a big HTML and CSS expert, but i can operate the W3C HTML validator.
The HTML comes out perfectly valid for 4.01 transitional.
For CSS i get this strange warning:
Line : 10 (Level : 1) You have no color with your background-color : #tooltip A:hover
... And the actual problematic line is:
background-color : #dbe4f2;
This color specification seems valid to me, but then again - i'm no 1337 C55 h4x0r.
Anyway, removing this line makes the CSS validate perfectly and it still crashes my IE :)
Does anyone know which piece of that CSS crashes IE? - awhiteflame, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1We know. You told us you didn't digg it and you marked it as lame as a reply to the first comment. You don't have to tell us again. That said, this is not promoting hacking. This is spreading awareness about the vulnerability so people can either protect themselves by using a better browser or using IE7 Beta3, which this has no effect on.
So, as expected, no digg for your comment. And yes, I herby mark your comment as lame. - NikhilPK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Or because its the blog of the guy who made the CSS script?
- romainechester, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well.. IE does/definately crashes due to that. What did you expect?
- shortduderay, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1haha, IE6 sucks. If IE was updated and revised like Firefox when there are errors, it would be a lot better. But hey, there's still IE 7. But Firefox is still better IMO.

Looks like that is the sploit. - theotherlight, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4Why link to a blog that links to the example?
- davidod87, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0I'm drunk, and I agree with this.
I can have some awesome drunken MSN conversation. Windows Live me at xaiphras@hotmail.com - shawnz, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2no digg for google ads on page and useless iexplore bashing.
