- Jambi, on 10/11/2007, -1/+36Pipes? Holy crap, that Senator from Alaska was right; the Internet really IS a series of tubes!
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -17/+36I beat my wife with a pipe
- str3ama, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9you're both wrong, I'll send you an internet explaining the Internet.
- HuJintao, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7*****! It's like a giant truck, I tell you!
- Homunculiheaded, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Pipes has been around for awhile now, and while I used to be a big advocate of it I'm not so sure anymore. My first problem is that anything interesting you make sits on yahoo's server and will disappear the second yahoo decides pipes is a pain to keep running. So you are discouraged from making anything too useful knowing that it may disappear tomorrow (if you could export your work that would be cool).
The bigger issue is that while pipes is cool and looks easy to use, everyone I know without much programming experience is very confused by it, whereas anyone with programming experience would be better off just writing a little script themselves. I hope pipes does well, because it's a great idea, however I think it still has a while to go. - chicoer2001, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6When did Ted Stevens join Yahoo?
- sifeliz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5b-but what happens when they get all clogged up?
- nathan1313us, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Great now Ted Stevens has even more to bitch about. "I couldn't get my email because of all the domestic violence in this nation."
- contradictator, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5I seriously was not interested in the story, but I knew I just HAD to come see how many Senator Stevens jokes i'd find.
- listrophy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4As a programmer, I found some fairly simple tasks to be a bit cumbersome. You can, however, work around some of these issues. Behold, my creation:

It's a pipe that searches up to 3 craigslist cities for the same item under the "For Sale" heading. It defaults to motorcycles, but works with anything in that category. And no, it does not work for w4m. - forgiste, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5I told them not too boss.
- sanman, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4"Don't cross the streams"
- moocow1452, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Website's clogged.
- TheSeeker11, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3So wrong yet so funny.
- Electrin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3How many trucks can we put on these?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I'll do it. (unzips pants)
- NessTheHero, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Oh look, a wordpress error. Isn't that nice.
- josephblanx, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I need to get my pipes cleaned.
- marc2242, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Pretty good intro if you're not familiar with Yahoo pipes.
- psilanthropist, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2you're only looking at the black and the white. the programmers and the non-progrommers.
i have never actually written a program, but that doesnt mean i'm bunched into the group which uses a computer for myspace, porn and email. im comfortable using a linux terminal, have tried my hand at bash scritpting (and failed). si i fall into an intermediate category which is yahoo's main target.
i have been using yahoo pipes for a few months now and i really like it - jasonp55, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2The only way to prevent that from happening is to periodically clean them out with race horses and powerballs.
- viz78, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2oh please! if google had done the same thing, their fanboys will be praising it up the wazoo!
- bradkovach, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2That's some easy programming. I made this iPhone story remover in 3 minutes: http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/pipe.info?_id=zMaBouo03BG4BZj3CB2yXQ
- ps3udov3ctor, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1but everything on yahoo is bloated, slow, and generally sucks, doesn't it?
- Gonz037, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Hopefully it is easier than Popfly because that was a ***** and a half to me.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -4/+5It's funny because it's true.
- aaronbrethorst, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Hey - I work on Popfly, and I'd like to talk with you more about this to find out where it didn't work well for you. If possible, could you email me at abreth@microsoft.com?
Thanks!
Aaron - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Why? :D
- winry, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1i couldn't read webcomics without yahoo pipes, really
- oepapel, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1You can get an RSS feed of your pipe and then start all over again!
- yahoofrom, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1the interweb has eaten the deep fried pizza and saturated fat is blocking its arteries.
- leolll, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2http://duggmirror.com/programming/An_introduction_to_Yahoo_Pipes/
- oepapel, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I'm not sure what market they are trying to hit with pipes...
A programmer would hack together a script to do this
A non-programmer wouldn't be drawn to this or know why they would want it. (Hint: How many "pipes" is your mom planning on making?)
Those in between would either use an already created tool or use an online service that already does this...
Unless they make this much cooler so that programmers adopt it rather than rolling their own solution, it seems like a solution looking for a problem.
I'm calling this a DNTBI (Didn't Need To Be Invented). - buildmorerobots, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I was excited when I saw the title. I was hoping it was a data transfer system like Pando, but one that wouldn't require you to download another application. Oh well.
- masterdieff, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Am I the only one who at first glance thought Yahoo was getting into marijuana paraphernalia?
- funtownarcade, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1buried as lame.
- 70percent, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0My problem with pipes, is that you can't widgetize it or do anything with what you create. It just stays on that page.
- D3koy, on 10/11/2007, -13/+6Why the ***** did anyone digg this up?
Is wife beating condoned by the internet? - Macskeeball, on 10/11/2007, -11/+3Not cool. Not cool at all. Buried. I'd report it, but the link disappeared.
