- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3google will do this eventually for gmail/the personalized page-- i bet
- Elleo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm more interested in Hula's web interface myself, a demo of which can be seen at: http://nat.org/demos/hula.html
- jared9985, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1google could do much better.
- Psykus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Where exactly did the AJAX name come from? Why doesn't anyone call it DHTML?
- rootdown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1firefox crashes when i try it.
- muffinresearch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I checked this out last week but it didn't really make me want to use it and I'm in need of a nice calendar solution because sunbird doesn't cut it yet.
Project hula does look good but seems to be while away from being fully finished. Also hula is a self-contained standalone service and so isn't directly comparable to kiko imho. - brownstone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"I got to learn this language."
You mean JavaScript and HTML? That's all "AJAX" is, after all; A new label for technology that is about 10 years old. - adamS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1From Wikipedia:
Ajax or Asynchronous JavaScript and XML is a term describing a web development technique for creating interactive web applications using a combination of:
HTML (or XHTML) and CSS for presenting information
The Document Object Model manipulated through JavaScript to dynamically display and interact with the information presented
The XMLHttpRequest object to exchange data asynchronously with the web server. (XML is commonly used, although any text format will work, including preformatted HTML, plain text, and JSON) - kourge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've seen this ages before.
Still it's worth the digg. - kevin.gc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The front page looked cool, the app looks kind of lame...
- ylocav, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1nice. looks ripe for a google purchase. at least, i'd love to see it.
- caleb3141, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Haha, I looked at this source, and this stood out:
function GhettoDB(typeDefs) - Webteeth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It works with Firefox with me, I'm using a Mac though. Keep in mind that it only supports v 1.0+ of Firefox.
- mdweezer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1AJAX apps are awesome.
I really wish Google would integrate a calendar app into Gmail that I could sync with iCal. - apotropaic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Now that thats said... I crashed this calendar in less then a minute! It does have some major bugs. But good idea and should have a great future. do they offer the source? Or do you have to us it on thier servers?
- 5blocksfree, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Actually, this is pretty cool. It's pushing the browser a bit, and it DOES involve some hacks (the dialogs), but overall, an interesting demo of the technology.
- johnwp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You have no idea how long I’ve been waiting for this. Microsoft Outlook has an awesome calendar, but it’s closed source and you can't easily access it over the Internet without Exchange, and Microsoft sucks. Mozilla Calendar is not very user friendly and needs a lot of work, BUT it supports the standard ICS file format and will auto upload to an FTP or WebDAV server. The only other worthy alternative (IMO) is Apple's iCal, but I'm poor and can't afford a Mac. Does Kiko support ICS in this beta version? I really like it so far!!
- kungfustickman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Pretty cool but they still need to work out some of the bugs.
- digital_ice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I got to learn this language.
- johnwp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Amen to that dracula!
Please please please GOOGLE, buy Kiko. - lego, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Digg: All AJAX, all the time!
But yeah, pretty cool. - valan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0can I put it on my own server? how do I know these guys are going to be around for long enough?
- 1luxlife, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I agree with kungfustickman - I've been unable to use with Firefox.
- motionblur, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The technology is cool, but this further proves that tech people != interface design experts.
- TheNik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's down for me, anyone else? :(
- darkmane, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I haven't been able to get it to work in either IE or FIrefox 1.0.7. As soon as I invite someone it fails and I find myself stuck. I filed a bug.
- mdshoreboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0SWEET!
- eszter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This was a duplicate. It's curious why people decided to digg this post and not the original here:
http://digg.com/software/Kiko,_a_new_kind_of_online_calendar
Perhaps because the original didn't have AJAX in the title? - dewey1973, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Check out:
http://www.rsscalendar.com/rss/
You can get rss feeds of the events you set up in the calendar. Very useful for remembering birthdays and such. - kusumah, on 03/02/2009, -0/+0nice , sure i like
- Stopher, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Pretty cool.
- macman81, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0no support for safari? weak
firefox is good, but still... this sux - mutant, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0CAN!!! WE!!! HAVE!!! MORE!!! EXCLAMATION!!! POINTS!!!
The more !!! the worse the story. - Webteeth, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1"Are the triple exclamation marks really necessary? Makes this article look extremely tacky on the front page. Try to find other ways to express your excitement rather than through excessive use of punctuation."
Just a suggestion for Digg: Make article submissions editable by the users! Allow the community of Digg users (possibly those users with over 3 submissions that have made it to the front page and that have dugg 200 stories or something) to edit stories before they make it to the front page. Maybe some sort of "approval" system, such as: When 50 Digg users click the "Approve" text under the body text of the submission (before the report field), the article would be no longer editable. Please keep in mind that the people who improve the quality of the articles do not necessarily have to Digg a story.
Things would change: users would still get credited for their submission, but the quality of the articles on the front page would drastically improve, so would the number of people choosing to visit Digg before Slashdot (because let's face it: the quality of Slashdot submissions is much greater than the submissions of Digg).
Just a suggestion. I know it' off-topic, but I feel that if this were put in place, it would really improve Digg. - forceflow501, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0OMG its AJAX
- adamS, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Yeah, sorry for acutally caring about headlines that look like they were composed by a 10-year old. The "go back to Slashdot" argument is getting old. Just put some time into composing a proper headline that's deserving of a frontpage.
- ForumTroll, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Come on guys, AJAX produces interactive dynamic web pages and can be used for lots of different tasks. We really don't need a Digg for each one of these instances. If you want to go learn about AJAX by all means go do it but we don’t need Digg stories for each and every trivial little AJAX implementation you find.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0what's the big deal....
- rulethirty, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0OH MY GOD A CALENDAR!!!!!
- apotropaic, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1seriously, its sounds like some people really want more of a /. feel on digg! so for all you a-holes who try to correct peoples titles, or tell them how to add a story, go join the other a-holes who monitor/filter all that @ /.
- mattjb, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I'm sorry, but people complaining about exclamation marks (or any other punctuations for that matter) need to take a chill pill.
- Jaymoon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0LOL, that is the ugliest calendar I've ever seen...
- dozens, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0i hate you people wih your stupid "omg, so many exclamation points" crap, and your "you bastard, this is a repeat!" shouts, and so on... jesus, you just made me do the same thing. go away. go use a hairbrush on your carpet or arrange your comic books by villain's real last names or something. go be negative on your mom. "bitch, you left the crust on my pb'n'j again!" lame.
- adamS, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0Are the triple exclamation marks really necessary? Makes this article look extremely tacky on the front page. Try to find other ways to express your excitement rather than through excessive use of punctuation.

What is Digg?
