- muppethouse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Not free as in freedom. The license link explicitly states that you are not allowed to modify the code for other projects. This is also not a useful alternative to PHPMyAdmin quite yet, but it shows potential. For those who actually want to admin a database (modify schema, define keys, create tables) you'll want to wait until this tool is more robust before making any type of switch.
- etruscan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2phpMyAdmin functions admirably... but it's not perfect... and navigation is one of it's sore spots. Once Turbo gets fleshed out, to the point where it has a competitive feature set, it may just smoke PMA. I'll keep my eye on it. Dugg.
- CorpT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2PHP and AJAX. Don't think there is a faster digg combo out there. They should just auto-frontpage stuff with both in the title to save time.
- overeasy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2One of the devs of TurboDbAdmin here. We were going to wait to post this on digg until we reached our 1.0 feature set, but it looks like someone enthusiastic jumped ahead of us. We'll be updating and improving features as quickly as we can. Please feel free to post comments and questions in our forum.
- headworm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Actually it has theme support. If you don't like the XP look, just change to the OS X look. And if you don't like either, slit your wrists.
- 59ideas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Looking for phpmyadmin alternative... any other suggestion?
- senzafine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1very cool. but i wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole. interfaces to a database need to be idiot proof. i guess permissions could handle that...but i like to see confirmations of what i'm about to do...and that i've done it. locking the view is really cool and it is definitely responsive. this has a great place for a non production db.
- LayZ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Very cool, serious digg for this.
I don't see why people are complaining about a 0.1 release not being feature packed like a very mature product like phpmyadmin. Great potential here. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2OMG YES!!!!!!!!
- tomerdean, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yeah it is...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Stupid AJAX everything...
Ok, we get it, its "AJAXIFIED", move on! - Greg-J, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Downloaded it.
Installed it.
Tried it.
I have a headline of my own:
NEW TOOL THAT DOES HALF OF WHAT OUR OLD TOOL DOES!!! COOL BECAUSE IT USES AJAX!!!
Go along people. Nothing interesting to see here. - cshontz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I infini-digg. Would like a liiiiittle bit more functionality, but I hearby deem this a righteous app.

TurboDbAdmin is free to use. You are not allowed to modify the source code or use any portion of the source code in other projects.

Looks free to me. I'll stick with PHPMyAdmin until it has the backup/restore features. - dooltaz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This ROCKS!!! My New TOY!
- raj_d, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0doesn't work in safari. missing a lot of editing & creation tools.... great start though!
- copperkidd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've been looking for something like this for a while! Great app!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0CorpT: hhahaha
- tagawa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0At this early stage it seems to be more proof of concept than phpMyAdmin competitor. It will need db copying, export, optimization, statistics, etc. to be anywhere close. Version 1 should be interesting if it has such features.
Another must is confirmation messages.
phpMyAdmin: You are about to DESTROY a complete database.
Me: Oh yeah. Thanks PMA, saved my ass again! - scblock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The free/not free discussion needs clarification. Those who complain it isn't free are talking free as in speech, as in they could take it and modify it to suit their needs, etc. Those who say but it is free are talking free as in beer. Two kinds of free.
It's not a big deal to me, but it is very important to some and the distinction should be made. - mck9235, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow, this looks very promising, but as someone said, it needs more work before it can be considered a replacement to PMA.
- scblock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'll stick with the mysql monitor or Aqua Data Studio.
- danielryan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0it has potential.
- funkdaddie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Niiiiicccceeee.
- enjayenel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I get a blank white page when trying to view the live demo in safari, anyone else?
- narzy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wow! I mean really wow! I wish they would release it under GNU PL or a BSD license but I really like the concept. I wouldn't use it in a live server environment quite yet however because I haven't had a chance to evaluate it's security, nor has it been around long enough to survive the Internet torture test, but I am really impressed. It is an extremely logical design and actually helps me to understand my DB's better then ever. Nice work.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sorry but this doesn't even have a quarter of PhpMyAdmin's functionality...
Cool, but definitely not an alternative for anything beyond a novice - randylovin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's not an alternative. Period.
- ForbesBingley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Not nearly as functional as phpMyAdmin .. which I almost live out of.
And the fact that it looks like a Microsoft Windows XP application .. bleagh! - ScottyTee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Very nice, thanks very much for the link...

http://www.diggfans.com - LoganKriete, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Very nice, but certainly doesn't have enough features that phpMyAdmin has to make it worthy to switch. But MOST definitely worthy of a digg! AJAX + PHP == auto-digg forever! Those two go better than any other language out there, IMHO!
- farr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+01. Not even close to enough features to be called an "alternative".
2. Not open source.
3. Whats the point of ajax (in this case), so the page doesn't have to refresh? C'mon, phpmyadmin functions admirably already.
No digg. - Jackolicious, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Obviously this is not a replacement yet, but keep up the good work on it! I can't wait to see what comes out of it.
If it was full featured, I'd switch right now! - Quest-Master, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Live Demo returns a blank page in Opera 8.5, similar to what enjayenel is experiencing.
Sounds pretty cool, though! - Majdaa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i have phpmyadmin mainly for the fact that it is slow and uses frames and i can't refresh w/o goin to the main page....i'd definitely use this if it had more functionality....god bless AJAX
- subface, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah, yet another AJAX but not Safari compatible site. Great. Keep showing why Flash is more cross-platform and browser compatible.
- skeeto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow. What a great little app. I wish I had it last week when I had to edit a ton of data through phpmyadmin
- fiammybe, on 03/12/2008, -0/+0You might have a look at http://actionscript.com/urlForwarder.asp?RdtUrl=ht ...
It's not AJAX, but it's a Flash-ified version of phpMyAdmin, which uses PHP underneath. Very responsive, but I've not tested it thoroughly. - nextweb, on 12/17/2007, -0/+0wow this is so sweeeet.!!! this is going to save me alot of time.
great application !!! - oburlaca, on 05/02/2009, -0/+0I might also suggest a free, open source web based MySql Manager.
It’s called AeroSQL.
Homepage: http://www.burlaca.com/aerosql/
There is a demo, video and screenshots.
AeroSQL is a free web based tool for managing MySql servers written in PHP. The key feature of the product is an intuitive management of the database content. The result of SELECTs is displayed in a grid as in traditional desktop applications. - sseeger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Very cool, but not a replacement for phpMyAdmin. phpMyAdmin has many more features. But I do *LOVE* how you can edit a row in-line.
Doesn't work in Safari. (Just a blank screen - not even an error message.) - SirThom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Pretty cool, but I'll stick with PMA until it gets further down the road.
- Immothep, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Realy Nice...
- nickstang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0On some simple examples:
I can watch my browser process eat up 25% of my cpu on my pentium mobile 1.6,
This reminds me about all the talks that were going on in 1996 about how javascript would never survive because it's an interpretted language which makes it a resource hog. It's all becoming clear now, but the opposite happened. It's popular.
Now Grandma really DOES need the latest speed computer to check her web based email now. - Paradox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0While PHPMyAdmin is great, this blows it to kingdom come
- Stinkbug, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Looks cool. I'm going to try it out.
- tomerdean, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1this is ***** sweet! i got it installed on my server, works great! :)
- dude3609, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2"Unfortunately this is not free software."
The download link is big and clear.. So ***** off
